Yo Troopers, this is how my Hamleys turned up, looks like they where in "The Charge of the Light Brigade" really gutted over this. Who are the expert repair people what about you Vampire, two of the lugs have broken off in the arm, the mounted on the right has lost paint between his legs, and one horse has a paint chip. They will have to reduce price a lot from £150.00. What you reckon Troopers its worth in this condition. It would be alright for your Dio on Balaklava Dick lol.

Hi Bernard,

Its not worth the time or money to try and repair it. I would send it back unless they are willing to give back 130 GBP. There are some folks in the states who can do the repairs necessary but they maybe costly due to the postage. Try Susan Leicht here or KV they maybe able to help you out. However i would send it back and try and find a set that hasnt been destroyed in some kids backyard.

Dave

Bernard,
have to agree with Dave on this, I know someone who could do it, but those are hollowcast right and It is a pain in the you know what to fix.

The set right now is probably worth $20 to $40 US.

Tom

Bernard: I also know someone in the US who could do a very nice job and fix it, but it is not worth the postage to mail it over here, and then pay for the work and pay to have it shipped back. The set isn't worth that much.

Did the seller tell you that it had broken and chipped pieces? Perhaps your best course is to return the set, and wait until a better example turns up.

Dick

Oh - -as far as using this set in my Charge diorama -- no thanks. Your guys are all wounded. In my diorama, the Light Brigade prevails. (After all it's my diorama!!!).

Yo Trooper Dick lol, so we can change history now, all the Light Brigade survived, and all the Russians went home great stuff. Just going to rip all my history books up lol.
WHAT ARE YOU LIKE.
Bernard.

Bernard,

If you are interested I will gladly repair them for you.

Yo Trooper Jeff, thats the one its the three Mounted on the right, and one standing Trooper. Yo Troopers Jeff is the regimental surgeon, putting the wounded back together ready for the next battle. If its a good job going to promote him to General lol.
Bernard.

How's it go? Don't call me Sir, I work for a living! :D

Jeff

Bernard: I didn't think you collected cavalry with bases -- are you changing your mind?

Dick

Yo Dick, no not changing my mind just making an exception for this set. My collecting aim was to get a set of each of the Famous British Cavalry Regiments from the 19th Century in their glorious uniforms. This set contains Regiments never made before ie; 14th, 15th, 20th, & 21st Hussars, and then there are only two of each Regiment. Does not look like I am going to reach my aim, unless I get the other Regiments made myself,ie 18th & 19th Hussars. I did get the 4th Royal Irish Dragoons made as you know, cannot believe Britains didn't make these famous Regiments ie; the 4th Royal Irish where in the battle of Balaklava, wasn't until the Dennis Britains set came out that we got the 15th Hussars the 1st British Cavalry Regiment to be awarded a battle honour, so you can see why I made the request to Britains in my post, wasn't having a go at them, just trying to explain after 115 years they still havn't made all the Famous British Cavalry Regiments, when all the other Regiments have been flogged to death. What you reckon Troopers did I have a good point to make.
Bernard.
Forgot to add in trying to make a point to Britains, the Older sets of Cavalry are so scarse ie, set #13, set #100, etc, etc, that the ordinary collector cannot afford to buy them.
Bernard.

Bernard:

Even though you know the cavalry is number one and without equal, I must assume that the Britains production staff does not necessarily agree that the collecting world as a whole shares your thoughts. Otherwise, I would assume Britains would be producing cavalry sets from the Ford Motor Company's assembly lines.

Dick

P.S I, however, do share your thoughts.

Hi Guys,

As a Tank/Cav guy I totally agree too, but I am hopeful that the good folks at Britains will visit these units soon. They have really made some serious leaps in quality and scope so I for one will give them all the time they need to make sets in an order that is in keeping with the theme they are developing such as the VC or Red Coats Line and hopefully some more of my favorite the Durbar!

So just give them some time and I am sure we will get what we're hoping for.

All the best

Dave

Yo Trooper Dave, ok but have only been waiting 115 years now, how old do they think use cavalry collectors live lol.
Bernard.

Hi Bernard,

Cute. But really the issue becomes market driven. Lets look at what is popular and why. The biggest sellers are obviously WWII, ACW and Napoleonics. Of course this is personality driven by the people who make the sets like Ken and Andy.

For Britains what would you say is their best seller? Until recently I would say generally the Ceremonial figures of Guards marching up and down the square at Buckingham would be the ones followed closely by the ACW. My opinion only, this is influenced by my childhood and the types of sets available via mail order since there wasn't a store closer than 2 hours one way from me that carried the Britains line. Also, I went through my WWII phase in the 70's when I was building models of tanks and planes and casting soldiers with my dad. So you can see I enjoyed the WWII sets and figures a long while back, not that I dont enjoy them now, but they arent the sets that get my attention. Durbar! :D

Now if we look to the vintage sets of the 60's and older we see that Guards and Highlanders are the top sellers, for the mounted figures Lancers seem to rule but they are even over shadowed by the few foreign mounted units that Britains made like the Cossacks and the Danish Hussars to name a couple I have seen recently at auction.

When I look at the lines Britains has done recently, especially the VC line, I see them being smart and making great looking individual mounted figures as well as solid vignettes like Saving Cpt Webb and since they have chosen this theme I am sure that many of the truly famous Regiments will have to be done. So again I counsel patience and I am sure we will be rewarded with some sets of the fantastic Hussars in Action and on Parade. Who knows maybe they will even do a Musical Ride set again for the club in small sets so we dont have to cash in our IRAs to buy it.;)

So I for one an willing to wait a while longer.

All the best

Dave

Now there is an idea :D

You mention the Musical Ride -- interesting. I wonder if Britains would ever remake one of their vintage sets again -- and, if so would they make it in the same style, or chang it? So far, looking at Britains' products over the years, the Royal Horse Artillery, the Mountain Battery, and others, -- as of yet, they haven't really duplicated a previously existing set.

Yo Trooper, time to wrap this one up with respect. I know Britains are not going to do any Cavalry Regiments was trying to make a point as to why they never ever made most of them. Tell me how many infantry regiments they never made or Guards or Highlanders and still are making them, at the end of the day you can only buy what is made, ie; the rag trade tell you what you are going to wear because thats all they make. As for the older sets disagree with you on that. They are mainly investment items, and if you get a good set no damage & a good box the sky is the limit. Just watching ebay and there are Guards, Highlanders, Ceramonial, going off by the dozen for very low prices, didn't see any cavalry though. maybe you see one or two of the modern sets of the Crimean they seem to have over produced. To be quite honest dont really care anymore if Britains dont make any more Cavalry, it wears one down talking about it, only got to get 3rd Kings Hussars set # 13, 21st Lancers # set 100 and 1st Kings Dragoons set # 2074. and thats me finished, will get the 18th & 19th Hussars made myself.
Bernard.

"THROUGH MUD AND BLOOD TO GREEN FIELDS BEYOND"

Hi Bernard,

Actually I dont think its time to wrap this up at all. I think we need this sort of discussion, so perhaps the good folks at Britains will see what the collectors want. I would love for them to do all the Cavalry Units and also do some Tank Regiment theme sets from WWI. I want to have figures of Fuller and Ellis, Hart and Swinton and Stern and crews as well as vehicles in action. But I know I dont collect what all the other folks out there collect so I am willing to be patient and wait. The great thing about this sort of discussion is it give us a place to chat these ideas up and vent a little and who knows maybe Richard and Ken will see this and use it as a sort of focus group for future sets. So dont give up the fight yet.

All the best

Dave
