Yo Trooper, sorry now "Surgeon General" with your skills with the old scalpal, glue & paintbrush, should be easy, just had good practise with these Hussars, and should get the set very cheap, does look as though they have been in the Valley of Death with the Light Brigade, but five of them look ok, but as you say Jeff its a lot worst than mine.
Bernard.

Since only 1,000 sets of the Limited Edition Hussars were made -- either Britains let their quality control slip abit -- or they were planning on sending Jeff some more work to do! I'm hoping its the latter, not the former.

LOL........:D:D:D

This auction (which is in the UK) is right now at $8. Considering the quality of Jeff's work, someone should bid on it and have Jeff fix it up for them. I have no idea what they go for mint, but it's a great looking set.

I am probably going to go after this and see what can be done as long as the price stays reasonable. It is one of the last Hamleys sets I need.

Good point Brad!

Tom,

Should work out well. You could have the seller send it directly to Jeff instead of ferrying it back and across the Atlantic.

Wow that really has taken some stick, doesn't look like transit damage to me. Looks like some one gave these to a kid to play with

It's sadly rather common to find the Hamleys Hussar sets in less that perfect condition. I had to purchase two sets off of ebay several years ago to get a mint complete set.

I looks to me that Britains painted these figures before they were assembled using a superglue. That's the reason they come apart so easily. The posting accross the Alantic doesn't help either.

Also, The Dennis Britain Set referred to contains the 13th Hussars, not the 15th. I remember because these are my favorite hussars.

Hello, we're back on this thread again! This set just has to be one of the worst designed on the market. Bernard has had so many problems with the horses breaking off at the hoof - where the plug fits into the base, that he had a very nice man make up a set of "Grass" to act as a stability aid.

I trimmed and super glued these into place and next step will be to paint them to match.

Jeff

Yo Jeff, just got a nose bleed being this high up on the page, they are glossy lol. Anyway mate look good to me many thanks do you know what colour the grass is:rolleyes:. Yo guys the problem with this very nice set is the bad design. They are solid cast and very heavy and only two hoofs are pinned to the base, so they are sort of balancing and eventually they lean over and break the pins. I know the maker of these models for Britains and he told me they were a nightmare to make, because of the bad design. There were suppose to be a 1000 LE sets made but reading between the lines, I think they aborted the making of them so they are quite a scarse set.
Yo trooper & Scott did tell you plates were made for fish & chips lol, and not for horses to stand on:rolleyes:;).
Bernard.

I just carried on with the thread, didn't notice it was in the matt section. Ask Brad nicely and I'm sure he will move it to the gloss section.

According to "Trooper Wraith" the grass should be Royal Blue!:p;)

Jeff,
I still have your email and have not gotten a chance to send photos of this one. I have the same issue as seen, I hate to modify sets, but do we have any other choice? I think I only have 1 poor horse at this point. I will relook at it.

Thanks
Tom

Hmm...I was wondering how some brass rod might have helped. Jeff, are the horses legs thick enough to take a fine drill bit, and then a piece of relatively narrow-gauge wire as a pin? I'm thinking with a little L-bend at its very bottom, to lock in under the base?

Was it Dickbuttons, or Tom D who posted earlier-where was the quality control on this set? It's really unusual for Britains to let something like this out of the house.

Or was this a set that was developed after Britains was bought, but before Ertl?

Prost!
Brad

The problem is with the legs - there are only two points of contact on three of the horses. The wire would have to be thin and very stiff to have any effect on the heavy bodies. An absolute s***e design imho and so Bernard has gone down this route. At least they won't fall over anymore.

Depends on what you want really?

:eek:where is the blue grass:( lol. Did the Hussar fall off or dismount like a gentleman:rolleyes: Nice one Jeff.
Bernard.

Yes, that's a shame, otherwise it's a nice concept for the poses. Are the horses solid castings?

Really does go back to the observation about the quality control-in fact, this should have been caught when the first sketches or master were done.

He was gently persuaded! :D;)

Talking of bases  I will try and get a suitable one for the RHA Ofiicer on Saturday.

Solid? They are some of the heaviest beasts I have seen! That's the problem.
