Right guys decided last month that I wanted to try to create an Omaha Beach diorama with 2nd Battallion US Rangers landing in British LCAs to attack the German defences. Since then I have drew plans in a diorama plan book which I have and listed what items I have or need for the end product. I decided to do Able Company as this company was one of the companies who landed on Omaha beach in the first wave and in the Book 'The Battalion' there is more focus on this companies depth on this particula beach than the other companies who landed.:)

I already had King and Country set, On The Beach Set B comprising of four second rangers, 1 rifleman, 1 Lieutenant (assuming as there are goggles on his head hiding the place where captain insignia would go), 1 radioman pfc, and one Sergeant with thompson, however I knew I'd have to try and get the other ones in order to create the diorama as I wanted to make it as historically accurate as possible so without any other units on the beach. About a week after posting in the King and Country section of the forum about wanting pictures of other people's D-Day dioramas I started drawing up plans and a list of things I would need or have got which I would put into the diorama. Several things in these different lists were:

JG Miniatures hedgehogs
Barbed wire
Something to pass as water
Pieces of wood to scatter the beach with
On the beach set A
Calling for reinforcements
Beach under fire
German Bunker
SAND

Maybe a week later the 3 D-Day sets appeared on ebay uk and I managed to get them!^&grin

The figures came at the weekend but I was away so I opened them on Monday and put them up the loft. I left them on the unit where the diorama is going to be created but not in the positions they will be in. I have been off work the past 2 days after getting sent home on Wednesday after feeling dizzy and unfortunately was a little bit ill yesterday but I feel better today and by Monday will hopefully be back at work!^&cool Anyways last I set up the figures in the whereabouts they will be on the diorama when the sand is down. Some moving around will probably happen but not till the sand is added, which I went out and bought today just hope it is enough!^&grin

Here are some pics of my diorama boo and the diorama without sand and missing a few other things, also the shed on the German side and the sherman tank are probably not going to be included! The USMC soldier will have to be painted if included or it may go in the American LCVP which will hopefully be added later! ;)

Some more of the Rangers in Positions... I am now going up to add the sand that I got today! ;) 007.JPG008.JPG009.JPG011.JPG013.JPG

Here is the diorama with the sand added!:)

The trench and bunker are hand made. The sand was damp when I first opened it to I just poured the sand onto the unit and spread it out on the area of the beach. I began with the german trench by building the sand up to the front of the trench and then building the back of it. There is no glue or any other substances or any objects holding the trench in place, the sand was modelled to this shape when damp and has since dried out and is holding firm (thankfully):wink2:

The bunker was made by putting three jenga blocks on top of each other on each side of the bunker then 2 on top of each other at the front so that there is an area where the commander can look out onto the beach. I then modelled sand up the sides of the blocks and around the bunker before getting a small piece of cardboard for a roof and placing it on top of the jenga blocks on each side. Put sand on cardboard and tried to cover over the sides of the cardboard as best I could!^&grin

I modelled the rest of the beach down to the water and while the sand was still damp modelled the shell craters in the sand, put some barbed wire and pieces of broken hedgehogs in the sand to act as battle debre.

Then I put the German bunker defenders and anti aircraft gun figures in the diorama as well as some barbed wire and the 'Halt' roadblock and sandbags, barrels, jerry cans, and buckets.

Added the Rangers and a single hedgehog to the beach (have ordered a few more) and footprints in the sand to show the path of the individual soldiers. Layed down some greenery in front of the trench and around the bunker. Put some boxes, a stretcher, buckets and debre at the water's edge to add to the effect of the battlefield. Then added some more germans, two Luftwaffe and a figure doing the toilet, guess the sight of the Rangers was too much to bear!:rolleyes2:^&grin

Took some photographs, hope everyone likes them^&grin:

Hi Scott, A wonderful looking dio to be proud of, I know you have worked hard on this project and your time and efforts show through, looks really nice, look forward to some more pics, but don't forget to move the soda pop out of the water shots:):)...Sammy
