On the Road to Mandalay. (2 Viewers)

The allied troops sent to silence the artillery are successful, killing all but one of the crew, who runs off into the jungle only to finally surrender an old man in 1970 !
The detachment disable the gun and booby trap the remaining ammunition. On their way back to their own lines, unfortunately for them a Japanese machine gunner hears, then sees them as they start to bunch up as they hurry back.

The Machine Gunner opens up, hitting one man, the others quickly take up defensive positions and open up with automatic fire and lob a couple of grenades, the machine gun suddenly falls silent. With the Bren gunner protecting their rear they withdraw just as a few Japanese attempt a charge and are cut down by the Bren.

The patrol ends when eventually they find their way back to a Buddhist temple complex where one of their forward OP's is situated and then back to base just in time for tea !

Amazing scenes Steve, the creativity of the scenes gives the impression you have a huge miniature jungle in your house!

Thanks Tom, I do !{sm4}

In reality just a table, I just have a kind of modular system of boards I made, along with some grass and sand mats. Vegetation clumps that can be arranged into different scenarios. The Temple scene was just one such board in front of my computer with holiday snaps on the screen.

An LVT having engine problems is quietly drifting down the river. The Aussies riding in it are on edge, when a Temple clearing suddenly comes into view with a handful of Japanese in it collecting water.
A shout goes up from the Japs they have been spotted. The Aussies open fire. The .50 jamming after a few rounds, an Aussie lobs a grenade behind the Buddha statue silences the Japs.

As the silence falls after the few seconds of mayhem the engine roars back into life, whatever the problem was, the driver has fixed.
A few miles futher down the river they come to their rendez vous for their mission to pick up a Coast watcher who has to be retrieved. But the only person there is an Indian woman who instead of running at their approach seems to be expecting them.
They beach the LVT and meet the woman who explains that her husband the Coast watcher is further down the river in hiding as the Japanese are out searching for him and that it would not appear unusual to any Japanese to find her here as it is where the women of the village bathe and do their washing.
Unseen by the group in a thicket of bamboo above them is one such Japanese who often comes here to watch the women. He backs his way out and hurries back to his camp to alert his officer as the Aussies clamber back aboard and carry on. At last they reach their destination and the woman hurries off to fetch her husband. They arrive and as they board again a shot is fired at them wounding the Bren gunners mate and at the same time they are rushed from the right by a group charging with fixed bayonets, unfortunately for the Japs those are no match for automatic weapons. The LVT makes it way back up river to the Aussies base taking their wounded mate back for medical attention.

An' the dawn comes up like thunder outer China 'crost the Bay!

A scouting patrol of the Long Range Penetration Group winds their weary way along a jungle trail as dark clouds above and the already late Monsoon season threatens them with further misery to add to their fatigue, illnesses and constant stress of the patrol with hidden Jap booby traps just a step away.
One such trap is found which sparks a rush of adrenaline for a brief second, then their tiredness rushes back on them and they make their way avoiding the pit with only a burdened baggage mule giving trouble for a few seconds as it resists the tug of the muleteer all the while unseen by them lurks a Jap observer crouching behind cover just a few feet from the trail who will report their direction for interception after he is sure the patrol is past.

The Japs cap is just visible to the left of the tree in the background in front of the rocks !

Terrific Presentation. Very Cinematic:salute:::salute:::salute:::salute:::salute::

Good story Steve. Went in search of the Japanese observer, but he is too well hidden for my eyes. Are these guys walking into an ambush? Time will tell. Robin.

Excellent dioramas! A wonderful tribute to the Forgotten Army.

The Jap observer is about equal distance between the two Chindits, slightly left of tree. Hard to spot, which is why the guys missed him !{eek3}
As to your question. Depends on the Japs transmitter, has the humidity effected it !? {sm2}

Glad to see the story continues. The jungle scenes are top notch. Chris

Thanks Chris, still have plenty more ideas on scenes to create as time and other eras of interest allow !

On the road to Mandalay,
Where the flyin'-fishes play,
An' the dawn comes up like thunder outer China 'crost the Bay!

Changing sentries the Jap daydreams of life at home and never notices the Aussie who takes his life. The patrol sent out to find the Japanese camp observe it from the sentries post and direct Mortar fire onto it and then slip from the scene by following the stream where at the coast tomorrow morning a pick up is scheduled. One of the camps survivors, a friend of the sentry seeks him out and finds his body still warm.
Rushing back to camp he alerts his commander who sends out a screen of blocking forces to attempt to intercept them at likely routes, but with few men available they are stretched with great gaps between them.
Next morning close to their pick up point and making good time they are fired upon by a Jap machine gun sited along the stream. taking a wide arc to get around the MG the officer comes up behind it and lets rip with his SMG killing the crew.
With two of their number dead, the officer in charge of the patrol makes the decision to carry on as fast as they can to their rendezvous as he doubts the japs have enough men for others to be laying in wait further on.

Minutes later they reach their rendezvous point exactly on time and are much relieved to see an LCA. Using a mirror to signal the craft. Soon they are aboard and heading back to their own lines.
