Salvete all,
I was wondering what other hobbies we all have. Personally, I reenact the AWI as a private, United Train of Artillery, and collect as well as buy and sell late 1700s mid 1800s pocket watches.

I collect medals and weaponry as well as millitary reference. Am fortunate that there is no Mrs Trooper to curb my enthusiasm so all walls are crammed with bookshelves, (except the bathroom) and festooned with swords, pistols, rifles and carbines. This shows the British section. Trooper

The other 'crafty' thing that I do is making leadlight windows.

I've a few for friends, and repairs for some of my neighbours and its a very rewarding hobby.

Interests are Military History, so I'm a memeber of out local Artillery Historical Society, RAAHS where I'm the webmaster and editor of the newsletter, and help out with imagery stuff, such as scanning etc. http://www.artillerywa.org.au/

When I retire I'll go down to the Barracks on Wednesdays and work on restoration of artillery pieces, as well as helping out at our coastal artillery fortress, where the WW2 Tunnels have been restored. http://www.artillerywa.org.au/vtour/vtour.htm

just finished my private pilots course. Like karate and gardening do more of the latter than the former now. still try to meet interview etc WWII veterans from both sides. do lots of research related to WWII for organisations. Plenty of repaints and model building for myself and others but, most of the time is spent looking after my wife who is poorly. do all my work, nigh enough from home, as a result.

I have a rabid interest in baseball. I also, a one time, collected some military firearms but no longer do so. I had a huge military book collection, (over 2000 books), which is mostly gone now but I still read military books and collect the occasional volume when I can break money away from TS.:wink2:^&grin. Otherwise it's mostly TS, first and foremost. -- Al

LOL...........................a huge LOL moment to say the least in the middle of the day thanks to you.

Paul,
Please don't ever change, just keep being who you are and I will be one happy person.

George

That's awesome even from a guy with the "evil Sherman" as his thumbnail:tongue::smile2::smile2::smile2:

Seriously, nice break to the day, although you forgot one activity, but I guess you can't put that one on a family forum!!!!!!!

I like reading (mostly historical related or inspired stuff which is almost an extension of toy soldier collecting...) and exercising (gym, running, tennis...). On the exercising part my son has been playing basketball for the last 2 years and my wife is a former player, so recently I have also occasionally tried my hand at basketball with them (try is the word really...^&grin)...

Hey, if you want to branch out into VERY old watches, I'm your man{sm4}^&grin! I just picked up a late 1700s tortoise shell cased English watch. This thing is museum worthy{eek3}! I also have 1873 watch with a remarkable dial for sale right now:rolleyes2:....

ACW Confederate artillery reenacting, black powder shooting, surf and deep-sea fishing on and around Cape Hatteras N.C. and, vintage Chevrolet Vans. I have pictures of my other interests in the albums section of my profile.

Like many on this forum, all things historical. Used to write “popular history” articles-have had five published; four in magazines, one online(here). Other interests:travel(around 32 countries so far)travel writing(the best, IMO:Fermor, Thesiger, Robt. Byron, Fitzroy MacLean, Dalrymple), WWII era U.S. Army uniforms, Walther pistols, old Time, Life, National Geographics, Howitzer yearbooks, non-fiction spies and espionage, 1960s era Formula I, films/movies, family genealogy, and the American Cultural Wars(endless source of amusement-and frustration!).
