Pacific - episode 4 (1 Viewer)

.................................................................................................

Wasn't it terrific! I just stumbled on it back in 1986 and couldn't believe

what I was watching! It was really something, Lt. Michael Francis Torello,

Ray Luca, Pauli, I picked up the entire series on DVD and highly recommend

it to anyone that really likes a good action show.:)

"Pauli you Idiot.....what have you done to us Now"!
One of the main characters of "Crime Story" was a lawyer played by Stephen Lang. He was Pickett in "Gettysburg" and Jackson in "Gods and Generals". CS is well worth the time. -- Al

Bromhead: I know you are probably thinking the same thing as I am. Its hard for me to understand a couple of people on this site that continue to complain about this great new pacific series----THAT NEVER SERVED, "bozo's circus", or ANYWHERE for that matter!! I and I'm sure others, would like to know how they know if anything is realistic--since they DON'T KNOW THEMSELVES.......Stryker

People are entitled to their opinions. Please though do not turn this into a repeat of the last performance.

I have been very impressed by the production values in "The Pacific". Uniforms, special effects, and the envionment especially, have all been terrific. Now, while I really liked BoB, the one thing that always grates on me when I watch it is the obviously fake snow. I know it is a small thing in the overall scheme of the show, but for me the poor snow effects just kind of ruined the atmosphere. I got no sense of the awful cold those men suffered because all I thought of while watching it was that the actors were crawling around in talcum powder. I thought the shows without the snow were much better in putting me in the atmosphere. Now, I realize I will catch flak for this trivial critisism, but it just shows how successful the effects in "The Pacific" have been. I feel the wet, darkness, and confusion. The series has done a very effective job from a foxhole level POV. -- Al

I love the series.

I have been collecting USMC/USN Corpsman related items for a while.

Last Thursday had the honour, along with a few mates, to be invited to Sky TV London HQ to put on a display of equipment used by the USMC in the Pacific.

The Corpsman items are all mine

Cheers

Martyn:)

Nice displays. Wouldn't mind owning the Reising, Thompson, Winchester, and what looks to be a Springfield with scope;). -- Al

Using that argument how could anyone ever serve on a jury?

In a murder trial could only those that have committed murder serve?

A reasonable man can view situations and make decisions or comments

without having to personally experience that particular event.

I have had numerious events in my lifetime that allow me to know

exactly how I would react in a given situation, it has also shown me how

others react at the same time.

I submit that under normal conditions most people choose to not get

involved, which probably leads to so many disorders suffered by many after

combat.

Hi Martyn. Very impressed with the med supplies you have put together. What types of meds are they and are the original meds still in all those containers? -- Al

No critisism from me, you are certainly entitled to your opinon! Speaking about "BoB" and the winter scenes, those tree bursts and the bombardment was unbelievable. I agree with you about the mud, rain, and jungle conditions of the Pacific.

Lancer: you are absolutely correct in your statements. FAKE snow, is FAKE snow. Spielberg and Hanks had real coral flown in for the upcoming episodes on Peliliu, and TONS of volcanic ash to recreate the terrace on Iwo Jima. They have spared nothing for the realism of THIS series...........Stryker

GICOP: OUTSTANDING DISPLY!!!!! I too collect official USMC items WWI-present day, have been for a very long time. OFFICIAL USMC ITEMS are hard to come by--no ARMY wanted, you have to be careful. I really like your pack and the shelter half, have been looking for a nice one for years, but they are always tattered or stained, or missing the correct brass snaps etc. A really fine collection congrats!!!!!..............Stryker

Actually, I would say that this was my favorite episode so far. All that wet! How did those men do it? What a terrible way to have to live and fight for your life. -- Al

One way to live in the wet is to go commando of course, not much choice anyway,,ex wives always seem to question that,,another being condoms or a stout baggy.Like the series its all in the details,,the ill fighting class A uniforms,,mix of early weapons,,I would have liked to have seen the influx of replacements into the division. Further repeated viewing in time like BOB will result in the great affection for the series. Of course i think it should have been done in 20 episodes,,

Sorry,I really didn't mean to drift the thread,as I said before I felt the poems were linked to what the Marines went through in ridding the Pacific of the Japenese army.

It was a good thing IMO, a lot of good things come from not being too rigid I believe... So no need to apologize at least in my view...

I especially always enjoy

anything directed by Michael Mann.

"Crime Story", "The Last of the Mohicans", "Heat", "Miami Vice",
"Public Enemies" were are killer![/QUOTE]

Love those movies!

Good point! I would also add that realism isn't everything in a War movie or series and that realism certainly doesn't look like a weakness on this series (from what I've read, I again add;).
