Painting gloss figures (1 Viewer)

I've started on the crew and the Steadfast infantry as well.
Humbrol don't do a gloss 'flesh' out of the tin, so I've mixed white, red and pale yellow in the following measurements:
White: Lots
Red: Little bit
Pale yellow: Some.
That said, I've given it two coats and there's still some traces of undercoat showing through, so a third coat will be on the cards, probably a little darker tone.[/IMG]

Jeff, how's Nelly coming on?

Simon,

Looking good so far, the Gatling looks fun to paint .

These chaps have some fine old "Handle Bars" don't they! I suppose it's to help keep the "Stiff Upper Lip" when facing down hordes of screaming Zulus or whatnot.

I mix 'Flesh' by using Buff (7) and a touch of Red (19) and then a little White (22) if necessary.......mind you if you let it thicken up a bit (dry out) one or perhaps two coats will be enough.

The Heffalump will be started this afternoon hopefully.

Buff! I knew pale yellow didn't sound right. Yep, using the same colours and have now used the buff as the base and added the other two to it - gives a much richer flesh tone, cheers. Hadn't thought of letting the paint dry a bit before applying. I'll give that a try in future.

I agree, the handlebars are what this nation is all about, don't you know :D

Simon: I am enjoying your painting the Gatling gun set. Maybe, I will get inspired and paint a few castings I have primed. I can't use Humbrols in house anymore:mad: I have to use enamels out in the garage. Nice work. John

John, thanks for your comments. I know what you mean about getting around to painting things up. I'm forwever starting something up, and then moving on to a fresh idea. I've got shelves full of half finished painting jobs. At least by posting my progress here on TF, it should encourage me to finish this one

Anyhoo, here's my sorry little band of 24th having had their arms attached by surgeon Wraith. Used standard superglue, as I've run out of gel.

Had one of those interesting superglue moments were nothing seemed to be coming out when I squeezed the tube, so as per standard male practice, I squeezed harder and you'll never guess what happened. It was like a KV coffee mug scenario . Still trying to scrape it off my hands now....

DOH!!!

Simon,

Are all of RP's castings available unpainted? There are a couple of sets I wouldn't mind getting and painting myself.

Scott,
I believe so. They seem to charge a standard £3 per unpainted figure and the artillery pieces depend on the size and complexity. Well worth dropping them an e-mail or phone call.

I like these digi cards - thanks for the heads up Kurt.

Semi related to this thread :p:

Put on the third and final splash of flesh paint and am happy now that there is sufficient coverage. Also painted up the trousers in Humbrol gloss blue (15). Coverage with this was far better, but may do a second touch up coat now they're dry.

Pleased with the high gloss finish with these paints, just wish they'd dry a bit quicker.

And the 24th Acrobatic Team:

Hmmmm, just viewed these photos and the trousers don't show up that brilliantly. Sure I'll capture it later.

I've painted up the rest of the non-grey bits on the gun using Games Workshop Boltgun Metal (gunmetal). Most of the photos available seem to show the gun being mainly brass with the barrels a black / blued colour, so a minor reversal for this piece.

On to the grey next.

Cheers for the info Simon, I will get in touch with them.

Painting is looking very good by the way :)

Cheers Scott, getting there slowly.

RP World Models are supposed to be having an open day at the end of the month, once they move in to new premises. If they do, I'll do my best to get there and take some photos.

Thanks Simon

Some photo's would be great if you get the chance to go and visit them.

Any bets on whose going to finish first between Simon and Jeff? I'm really looking forward to seeing the end results. Ya I know I haven't been working on my Minimen Zulus but my paint brush is working with the Little Captain to see what's in it for them. Thanks Simon and Jeff for the time being spent in providing the photos and great job you'vedone with them....The Lt.

Simon,

This is looking good and this is a really nice model that they make, good and crisp detail.
