Finished the gun off now by painting the black bits on the wheel, carriage etc. and giving the metallic paint on the gun itself a couple of coats of gloss varnish to make it a bit.....glossier

Thanks for the kind comments. You've no idea how much willpower it's taking me not to start shading, highlighting and weathering it.

I had nearly finished that 88 you asked me to do for it, but then this evening, I had a moment of inspiration and repainted it. Couldn't find the right shade of green, but hope it's the look you were looking for

Simon..Do not know what is going on at the Steadfast site, but I have emailed them twice now about getting a castings product list ,and still no answer...May have to call them direct, which can be an expensive bother...Michael

I'm not sure a castings list is likely in the near future. I'm not privy to any inside info, but they have just moved over to a bigger premises and I imagine they're sorting a lot out. It is / was a very chaotic olde world type place, with moulds stacked all over the shop, castings here there and everywhere, so I'm not entirely convinced they know what they've got.

That said, I'd suggest if they've got the painted set up on the website, then the casting is avialable to buy. I'm going there tomorrow for their open day so I'll take a load of photos to give you an idea.

Was there anything in particular you were wanting to enquire about?

The cost of the castings are £28 for the gun and £3 each for the crew.
The crew painted are £42.30. I'm afraid I didn't get a price off them for the painted gun, as I thought it was on their site (which it isn't ), but looking at the other artillary, I would have thought it would be around the £35 - £40 mark.

I also forgot to ask if they ship internationally (it was an open day and somewhat busy), but I'll be returning in a couple of weeks, once they've settled down following their move so I can ask then. Failing that, it would no problem for me to pick them up and ship them across to you.

Re not answering e-mails, they put it down to the move. I would also suggest that they're somewhat old school and haven't yet fully embraced the benefits of 'ether sales'.

Onlymanaged to get a few dabs of paint on the crew. Painted the magnificent handlebars especially for Jeff , belts, boots n' bits and given them a dot of 'white's of their eyes'. Must fill in the pupils as they look like the living dead at the mo.

Oh, and I spotted my deliberate mistake on the officer's sleeves. Need to scrub that back to red and start with some gold (Not paying attention to what I was doing).

Hello, all!

I'd like to offer my tip, on the original question of this thread, about using gloss paints, or flat paints and then coating with a gloss varnish.

I use both gloss and matte paints, whether enamel or acrylic. I use Tamiya, Gunze-Sangyo, some old Pactra, Testor's Model Master, and Testor's enamels in the square glass bottles. I choose more on the basis of a shade of color, than on the level of matte or gloss, but when the figure is finished, I give it a couple of coats of a gloss acrylic, using Future floor wax (I think it's called Kleer outside the US). I've found that along with giving me the gloss finish that I want, it also deepens the quality of some colors, or rather, makes them brighter, more vibrant. And it cleans up very easily.
