thanks for sharing some of the Budapest Army Museum pics. At the Hungarian Natl Museum, they had a couple of exhibits focused on the post war communist period and then the upheaval when this was overthrown. Their 1956 uprising was the main theme throughout.

just a short backtrack here to Istanbul, I forgot to mention a fabulous collection of Ottoman Court costumes at the Topkapi palace. I didn’t take pix, assuming that they would sell a book on this T the museum shop. Guess what? Nadda. A glaring omission. Anyway, I compensated by getting a book on costumes of the religious class.

The next stop was Prague

these pix are from the Prague Natl museum. Basic bkgd history - Hungary and Czech were part of the Austro Hungarian empire. Hence very similar historical iconography appears in both Budapest n Prague. Last ptg is of Francis Stephan Francis 1, Holy Roman Emperor who married Maria Theresa

Both countries are strongly Catholic Hence a lot of ref to 30 years war.

thanks for looking in. Yes, a marvellous trip and I had a ball seeing so much Eastern European culture and arts. Very very diff from French, Italian and Spanish styles.

I located the Prague military museum in a non-touristy part of town. None of my clan would accompany me, preferring the glamour of the High Street allure. Sigh… their loss.

I agree Victor, "their loss". I would have enjoyed seeing the museums etc in person as I'm interested in architecture and art almost as much as military history. The main religions such as Roman Catholic and Muslim, etc certainly had a significant influence on the architecture, customs, culture etc.

Noted on yr interests. I’ll try to include some other historical pix as well.

At Prague, I visited a small house used by the Czech composer Anton Dvorak. Famous classical piece Humoresque. Grade 5 stuff… hahaha.

I completely missed a small niche Museum on the Czech Legion!! Because the museum was closed for three whole days, the time I was in Prague! grrr!

back to more Prague military museum stuff. Some great 30 yrs war models in 1/32 scale n displays followed by a flats display.

There is some similarity between the displays here, the Prague and Budapest Natl museum as all of them were under the old austro hungarian empire. Archduke Charles snarling in his portrait.

Oh, sad I missed this museum, seems I hadn't done my research.

What I did see in Prague was a Toy Museum in the Prague castle, it even had a BARBIE museum

I remember from a visit of almost forty years ago that Graz in Austria, had an Armoury Museum with hundreds if not thousands of Pikes and Muskets in racks and some Artillery on display. Worth a visit if in the area.

Yes the Prague castle complex was very big. There was a toy museum (closed!). There was also a library museum. We didn hv time to visit this as well.

I hvn yet reached the Vienna military museum part yet….
