Yes, me too. Andy looked into this idea some time back... I think that there are some pix of K&C pirate boat prototype in an old issue of Dispatches, but he decided not to proceed and has said a couple of times that it is not under consideration. :(

I did actually see a Pirate type boat / galleon of a decent size in Andy's office. Also had figures on it but silly me did not take a photo or ask about it. Brett.

Perhaps something Kronprinz could pick up. Emilio is always open for new ideas. And the quality of his TS is TOP.

Conte was going to do a pirate ship, even had a prototype on his site once but the costs of making it and shipping it would have been a nightmare so he abandoned it.

WOW Jules never seen that before, that would of been a great investment.

Yeah, I'm in Vietnam atm and there are a number of shops near the Caravelle Hotel in Saigon that make and sell all sorts of model boats... Couldn't believe how reasonably priced they are too. Been looking at a possible Chinese Junk but have also been exploring the possibility of a Pirate ship that would suit the Conte figures. Here's a pic that i took using a photo stitching app on my iPod so apologies for the quality.

To display TS you won't need a full sice ship IMO. A waterline version would do it as well, I think.

@jules118 - great pictures. I think I've seen some of them in a shop in Hamburg as well. They're really impressive. Would be interesting to know how much they are when bought directly from the manufacturer.

Excellent shop. You can find places like this here and there in the orient. Yes they make airplanes too in places like the Philippines. They will make any airplane you want by sending them photos. They are made of wood and very beautiful.

On the Pirates, I do not think that KC will do them. The time would have been right when they first considered it. I still have the brochure from back then. I think it would have done well having capitalized on the J. Depp Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Too bad the figures did not get made, I for one would have bought a ship for them from a place like pictured above.

Great thread and great posts.

Once again apologies for the quality of the photos, taken with my ipod. First of all, let me say that the quality of many of these models is much better than the imported junk that I've found back home. Maybe not museum grade but still sufficiently detailed to make me stop and spend a lot of time looking. Now do you really want to know the price? OK, sit down

This large sailing ship at the front of the shop... $190... that's right one hundred and ninety bucks!!!!

I was actually interested in this incomplete Vietnamese Junk as it was about right, scale wise for my SOHK figures. And I liked that it had not yet been varnished. Whilst most of the western sailing ships are quite detailed and don't have layers of lacquer on them, for some reason all the Chinese and Viet Junks are heavily varnished and look cheap and nasty IMO. Also scale seemed to be a problem until I saw this one, which was only partially assembled, but with sufficient detail that it could come up really well. It measures 100cm long and approx 90cm high. The sails fold down for shipping/packaging and it weighs 5kg approx. OPENING price (before the negotiations could commence) was $50... Fifty bucks. I didn't begin to negotiate on a price because unfortunately I had not planned on finding anything like this and my travel arrangements are going to make it near impossible to carry or get it back into Oz. But I'm due back here in January so I'll be factoring a boat purchase into my plans for sure.

After all, these prices are absolutely unbelievable... and to think that I was seriously considering investing in the Figarti HMS Victory last year... which still would have cost more than double my expenses for this past week in Vietnam (including airfares) and buying that large ship. Unfortunately, for K&C, now that I have seen what is available and at what cost, I'm no longer that fussed about the Pirate Junk. I'd still like to see what Andy had in mind as no doubt it would be excellent and of course these models are for the ships only, not custom made with figures, but I've been waiting for so long without so much as a sneak peak as to what was in the offing that I started to look at building my own boat to suit the limitations of my display area and now I've found this. That's not to say I wouldn't be buying the K&C boat if it was to be released, but the options available to me have just opened up considerably, so the K&C boat would have to be absolutely amazing and priced to sell... which I think may be too big an ask.

And yes, these guys do aircraft as well, although I'm not sure how accurately they can reproduce specific types. They looked a bit amateurish to me. I think that you'd need to provide quite specific plans and dimensions. Price for the aircraft that they had which are approx 1/30 scale is $20.

I would do my homework about getting one of those through Oz customs, if it is made out of any sort of banned or naughty wood they will not let it in, which would be a real bummer for you.

Yeah, that was one of the things that swayed my decision not to grab one this time round. I was seriously tempted to buy the un-assembled Junk as can easily finish it myself and could probably knock the price down to $35 - $40, but the customs/quarantine hassles with untreated timber was a concern. Will definitely be doing my homework before the January trip.

Got the business cards and details for a couple of the shops btw. Not sure if Andy has looked at Vietnam as a potential source for ships and how his planned Junk may have differed from what these guys do, but it's an option and would be happy to pass on the details if he reads this and is interested in a possible alternate supply/manufacturer source.

Yes, I couldn't think of anything worse than arriving home with a nice model ship only to have customs trash it at the airport. It would make you cry.
Wayne.

1/30 scale plane made out of wood $20 knicker...........................{eek3}{eek3}
