There is not enough of these winter Johnnies yet to construct a reasonable dioramic set-up of Marye's Heights. But decided to give these very fine sculpted longcoated boys a run out of their clamshell packets

It's a small trial vignette of Barksdale's 17th Mississippians (need a hell of a lot more of these Ken ^&grin) who occupied hotels and warehouses all along Caroline Street to slow up the Union advance. Whilst undertaking this rear guard action the citizens of Fredericksburg evacuated their homes and moved behind the Confederate frontline on top of the heights.

Fredericksburg was one of the very few occasions of house to house fighting during the ACW.

Bob, that excellent backdrop you've created reminds me of the town in Pale Rider......man I love the final scene of that film!^&cool

Rob

Once again off to another great chapter briging your story and photos to life and looking forward to it continuing. By the way Bob what are you using for snow?.........Joe

Bob,
Such a wonderful little dio you have there! I have been to Fredericksburg twice and it's one of my favorite places to visit. I have been thinking about picking up a few of these.

Very apt for the weather outside at the moment Bob! ^&cool

Thanks guys for your appreciative comments and like votes.

Rob the backdrops/buildings are as I'm sure you know all courtesy of that TMT wizard David-his stunning work makes dio construction almost a piece of cake. Here's a couple of long shots of his buildings either side of the hotel. Put an order in with him last Saturday for a few more pieces as my intention is to get a street full. Lee's Virginians marching through Cashtown comes to mind for a future set-up

The sharp eyed Zulu collectors will note the wagon barricade in the picture above is in fact a Rorkes Drift Ox Wagon as we ACW collectors don't -at the moment- have any decent ACW wagons as such. Put my usage of it down to artistic licence ^&grin

Joe the snow effect is an amalgam of Woodland scenics & JG's snow-Experimenting I found you can get a pretty good "shiny icicle" effect with the mix that every now and again photographs well plus of course it does no harm to your figures.

Lo I thoroughly recommend these figures if your thinking of grabbing a few of them. They are beautifully sculpted and painted-Top marks for Ken.

However, whether all of those Johnny Rebs were as well kitted out in winter duds at Fredericksburg as these figures depict is probably debateable. To that end- and no doubt you noticed an interloper in the scene-the Flagbearer guy at the top of the hotel fire-escape-This fellah.....

He's an old Conte Artillery Flagbearer (note the red stripes and piping). Got the idea for his conversion from a Troiani sketch of a Reb on winter guard duty. Milliput blanket and a scarf wrapped around his hat to keep his ears warm. Blanket is blowin' in the wind and I like the way he turned out as he sure looks darn cold. Now there's another idea for the future Ken ^&grin^&grin^&grin

Thanks again guys much appreciated

Bob

Bob this is a really great scene. The snow looks terrific as well as your dispersement and placement of the figures. The buildings are nice too. Well done sir.

What company manufactures the builds? If You can please give Me the name of the company not just letters. Caan You buy direct from them or through a dealer? Thank You 'Mr Colt 45'

Great scene Bob. Particuarly like the conversion of the flag bearer. Outstanding start to a new series. We know you already have an artillery battery in winter setting. :smile2: Chris

Great scenes you've created there UK.
You are a master at this stuff. :) Keep it coming.

Simon
