Would you be kind enough to supply us with the publisher of Crown Imperial? I can't seem to find any information about the pub on the Internet.

Hello Al,

I had managed to get only 4 odd issues from a 2nd hand bookshop. This was the last dated issue in 1985. it seems to be published by a specific society.

The Greenwood and Ball Catalogue. I just came across it in my huge pile of magazines. It also featured 54mm miniatures by Sanderson, Lasset and Cameo and 25mm wargame figures. I had ordered it from a US miniature company but I don't remember ordering any figures from this catalogue. I think by that time, I had discovered Historex and other makes and was starting to gravitate towards more detailed miniatures.

The gun has now been produced by The Model Armoury. See their website and photos from the London show. Trooper

Hi Alan,

Thanks for the tipoff. I contacted them but they do not sell unpainted castings of their vehicles or artillery.

Another defunct modelling magazine. It had some pretty good articles with nice illustrations on miniatures and I reproduce here some pages culled from this magazine.

Here is a specific article from Army and Navy World mag which may be very interesting to many here. I only have part 1 of a 2-part article.

Here is a one-off mag. Montvert was a short-lived publisher which produced several booklets on unusual military themes, similar in format to the Osprey MAA booklets. I had contributed an esoteric article to this magazine then. I also did all the artwork, including the paintings (aww shucks...:))

the paintings. These were done separately in gouache, each taking about a couple of hours. The images were then scanned separately and placed together by the publisher.

The Imrie-Risley catalogue. A very large and comprehensive range of nice looking metal figures, cavalry and artillery which used to dominate the metal figure landscape. IR was to the USA as what Tradition was to the UK, in my opinion.

I used to correspond with a WWII Aussie vet. Sadly, he has passed on. He had sent to me various documents of interest including a few odd issue of Wartime, an Aussie magazine. From what I see, there are some really interesting articles on the Aussie war experience, ranging from colonial times to the present. Here is one excellent article with great uniform pics.

Thanks for this one Victor. The uniform details will come in handy.

Wartime is the magazine of the Australian War Memorial. There was an exhibition at the memorial a few years ago (in the lower section) with some of these Victorian uniforms on display.

Thanks for posting all these nostalgic articles. More on Napoleonic period uniforms if you have any. Keep 'em coming!

Many of you would be familiar with Military Illustrated mag. I thought it was one of the best magazines when it started with great articles on uniforms and militaria. I had contributed an article to the magazine then. I also did a painting for the article but the editor decided to use another artist for the painting. Just revelling in nostalgia here:

Army & Navy ModelWorld mag. Here's a nice article which I had culled on a WWI diorama:

Regarding my article for Mil Illustrated mag, this was the painting that I submitted. This shows Raffles leading an assault on one of the pirate strongholds together with his friend Admiral Keppel.
Hence my disappointment when the editor picked another artist to illustrate that article but clearly using my drawing as a reference. C'est la vie.
