Don,t know about you guys but I,m getting a little tired of all these dream sequences.
Are they running out origional material?
This year started out so good but after watching last nights episode it is now not a "must see tv".
Only good thing Tommy is drinking again!
Oh and Sheila and her antics are getting tireing.
Gary

Yeah I agree. Bring back Michael J. Fox!

Btw, if you havent seen his last episode of Spin City, its one of those things you should find and watch.

I agree, Tommy burning his leg with a blow torch? Who thought that up?

I also don't think glorifing drinking is such a good idea. I can understand

someone having a cocktail to relax in the evening.....but gulping down hard

liquor with the grimace? I am not a drinker myself, I only drink things I enjoy

and often asked my pals if they liked the taste of beer or whiskey. I

always got the same answer....."Nothing quences your thirst like an Ice Cold

Beer"......yeah, but do you like the taste? "You get used to it"

I suppose you could get used to hitting yourself in the head with a ballpeen

hammer also....though I wouldn't recommend it!:D

Michael J Fox.....in my opinion is not needed on Rescue Me!:)

On the good news, they are actually going to FIRES again! Last season they hardly ever got on the truck or fought a fire, this season we are seeing more of the boys in action.

On the bad news, it's a bit like a train wreck - it's tragic but you can't look away. The whole avenue of Tommy and the blowtorch has things going down a really STRANGE route, even for this show.

Except that it is Denis Leary's show we could just have Tommy drink himself into a coma, or step in front of a New York taxi. The other guys are more interesting but I don't know if they could carry a show on their own.

I think going to fires and the blowtorch episode are connected. Remember Tommy's father tells Tommy that Tommy is already dead and that the only thing he feels or responds to is fire. Likewise he was the only guy on the crew who could gather the remains of the girl burned in the auto accident. Tommy cannot cry when he watches the family video or drinks the scotch--he can only respond to the pain of the blowtorch's fire on his body. Perhaps this pain is the only way he can tell that he is still alive.

PolarBear, if I have to think that deep for a tv show it is beyond me!

I'm an academic so tend to see symbols and meaning everywhere:D
But the show is basically about post-traumatic stress syndrome and what it does to people and their families, which we all know our brave soldiers who have returned home have to live with daily. They like Tommy and his fellow firefighters are all victims of a post 9/11 world. I think that's why on RM you can laugh one minute and cry the next. Sean and Mike provide some of that comic relief in a tragic world.

But you are right, after the last show I was sorta depressed. There are enough depressing things going on, so a tv show that I look for for laughs
shouldn,t do that.

I was long retired before 9/11, but as I remember back in the mid 60's to early 70's during the riots drinking among the brothers to dull the 80hr work weeks of getting bricked and having boiling water thrown on you from tenements was quite prevalent. Lots of divorces back then also.

I started this thread complaining about the show not being as good as I thought it used to be. Well I guess I might have been right as I completely forgot it was on last night and missed it.
I will catch a rerun later this week tho.

Last night got the humor back in the show, still the dark humor, but still not so deeply dark as last week.

If I were your parent's, Id leave you here and go to Greece too.

That whole final scene was great. The little kid and Tommy seem to have really good chemistry. I also liked the scene where they were discussing Franco's new girlfriend in the kitchen. I love those scenes from Rescue Me.

I agree- the scene between Tommy and the boy afraid of dying from his cancer was unforgettable and worthy of an Emmy. The boy's simple thank you at the end of the fire truck chase said it all. Our son, now 27, had a cancerous tumor on his kidney when he was 5 and loved fire trucks so our suburban (Dewitt, NY) department brought their tower ladder( see below) to our house and took him out for a spin and like the kids in the RM episode, he got to blast the air horn and siren. Later on, Rescue 1 in Syracuse NY invited him to spend an afternoon at the house, put up their tower ladder for him, showed him all the equipment on the rescue rigs and answered questions around the house kitchen table. Firefighters are a truly noble breed.

I agree, firemen are unsung heros. They don't walk around with an attitude,

you never hear them talking about "putting their life on the line daily" they

just do their jobs. We should all honor and respect these fellows. I have had

them at my home twice, once when the wife left eggs cooking on the

stove:eek: only cost me a front door! A second time when the wife had

to be rushed to the hospital (she is fine now).....both times they were worth

their weight in gold.:)

Just saw the last episode on demand. Ha a kid taking a truck on a joy ride. Never saw anything like that but did see our Truck 6 Ladderl leave the station and go two blocks without a tillerman before taking out a parked car.. Surprised they made it that far.

Used to take an engine to the Newington Children's Hospital for show and tell and rides for the kids. City hasn't done that for quite awhile. Pity

When I was growing up in Newington, Ct in the 50s this was the main firehouse. We had 3 volunteers on my street and I remember their blue lights flashing by my house when the siren sounded.
