Rivoli (2 Viewers)

Also starting to detail the other striding hussar.
Now starting to paint enamel undercoats.

After the paint had dried, I checked and corrected minor faults for the two striding hussars. Added Nap's hat to one of them.

Added belts to the mtd hussar. Now painting the details onto the figures. The Winsor Blue gives off a shiny effect when dried. This will have to be dealt with.

More WIP.

First pic shows detailed painting of the yellow lacing om the two striding hussars.

Second and third pics show rework on Nap, making him thinner, resculpting the head and the shabraque. A background mtd hussar is also being knocked up on a smaller horse. The foreground lying figures are being further improved.

I finished the rework on Nap. I also added buttons on the overalls and a horseshoe to the mtg hussar. Then undercoated the areas with enamels.

WIP the painting on these four figures. Adding shadows to the figures, too.

Reading more about Rivoli, it was the 4th Hussars depicted in the painting. You can see the number "4" on the sabretache of the hussar handing Nap his hat.

It was Captain Charles-Antoine laSalle who led a charge of 22nd Chasseurs au cheval and captured 5 Austrian flags. He was sitting on them and rose to present the flags to General Bonaparte who then said,"You may rest - You have earned the right to sleep on them".

LaSalle must have been one of the most recorded Nap personalities but even the details of his life remain sketchy. He was capt of the 22nd Chasseurs but he is depicted as an officer of the 4th Hussars? On his private life, he is married to either the divorced wife of Berthier or Berthier's widowed sister.

I knocked up a shadowbox for this piece. The background was fairly thick cupboard cut with slits and stuffed into the box.

The foreground was made from a few pieces of wood stuck together. This was raised and Nap was placed within to test the composition.

Work on other figures are ongoing. The mtd hussar holding laSalle's horse in the background is being sculpted. The foreground figures and the horse handler, too.

Made some changes to Nap. Lengthened his neck and improved the horse's mane. The horse handler has been further sculpted.

The first pic gathers some of the figures being upgraded and worked upon.

To the right, the mtd hussar has been given a flagpole. Details are slowly being added to the prone foreground figures. There is a new horse added to this group. Notice that it is mostly scavenged parts except for the pristine heavy cavalry saddle.

Nap is being thoroughly reworked to capture his pose as per the painting. The horse handler appears to be dressed as a courier, even though he wears hussar boots.

For the bkgd, i've added another curved shape to blend in with the foreground.

Nap - arm has been shortened. The horse mane has been reworked.

Grenadier- fully detailed, ready for painting.

The horse rump was built up. For Historex horses, the rump usually has to be raised to allow the saddle to be laid horizontally.

The wounded horse has had its pose reworked.

I've just added some undercoats to the sculpted figures and areas. The colours make it easier to add further details or spot errors.

Here's the reworked pose for the wounded horse. I've also added another reject horse into this scene. This will be the horse ridden by one of the officers to the left of Nap. This continues to illustrate my point that we are sitting on a pile of personal GA treasure, not junk, waiting to be converted into miniatures. hahaha.

I reworked the forehead and hair of the foreground grenadier.
I reshaped the hussar boots and added tiny tassels to the horse handler.

Finally, I have started to paint the background. It's not much of a start, just outlining the rocky hills against the foreground placement.

Covered the background with water-based paints, gouache and acrylics. Looks like a kids drawing. hahaha.

Been recruiting more figures to the Rivoli scene.

Here's another bicorned officer on a black horse immediately to the left of the pic, covered by the red mtd hussar.

Also the foot figure handling Nap's horse has been largely painted.

There is another white horse with his dismounted hatless officer which is being made up.

There are a lot of figures and horses to be made up for this piece. Hence, I am trying not to get too distracted by other projects but I (you) know that this is impossible...hahaha.
