Rom048 elephant crew (1 Viewer)

Thanks for posting Wayne.

Please note these are pre-production shots, we have made a few improvements and tweaks to the one shown, hopefully there will be a couple on display in London on the 25th March.

Best wishes The Gunn Team

Other than the deformed head the sculpt is very nice. The size of the Roman figures and Howda are too large in relation to the size of the Elephant IMO. Google War Elephant, select images and observe the size relationships in the photos.

A Roman cameraman would be cool.:)

Thought the head was slightly odd, perhaps to accommodate the positioning of the rider. Maybe this can be tweaked before release, but either way it will coming my way. Robin.

I have looked at a lot of Asian Elephants and I have never seen one with a cranial deformation as pronounced as the model. The Seattle Zoo had several Asian Elephants; which I have visited many times. The typical Asian adult male Elephant is 11 to 12 feet tall (3.4 to 3.7 meters), twice the height of a typical 5'8" Roman Legionary. TG needs to review and correct its prototype before production.

Both TCS and Black Hawk had problems with their War Elephants; both were African Savanna Elephants and the TCS versions trunk was too short! Proportions are very important to the correct appearance of an Elephant, Asian or African.

Same here just waiting to order it. I got my fingers crossed that it will come out before the summer...

...if its not good enough for everyone. Then do not buy it, don't kill it for every one else, stop criticizing....

Maybe he was dropped on his head as a child,I'm sure his mother still loves him.

Will the figures be separate from the elephant or is it all one sculpt?

The criticism is constructive; it is intended to correct errors and improve the figure prior to production. I think Thomas Gunn is wise to present the prototype to collectors prior to production and learn from the comments. A design review as it is called in engineering parlance. I only wish that more manufacturers would take this enlightened approach to product development. Many errors would be avoided and products would be improved as a result IMO.

What happens if TG decides to go ahead with the product even after your expert opinion ? You have mentioned the same point three times already and anybody reading this thread is well aware of your thoughts. At some point it goes from being constructive to just repetitive.

Back in 2013 I visited The Toy soldier museum in Pennsylvania. Here are a few photos of war elephants in his collection to compare with the TG elephant. Obviously the TG elephant will be much more affordable for collectors, I'm definitely getting one. IMG_0404.JPGIMG_0405.JPGIMG_0406.JPG

Thank you for the kind observation. I do not consider myself an expert. A conversation is often repetitive; point, counter point, reiteration etc. A dialog as opposed to a monolog; the alternative is silence and thus no need for a forum.
