The Black Hawk Zama war elephant is very well done with excellent figures. A Forest Elephant from Africa is portrayed and this what the Carthagenians would have used. The point is that these excellent pieces are still widely available at a price of $219.00 including four figures, a Mahout an Archer a Javelin man and a wounded warrior. I do not think the demand for War Elephants is very high when the price is above $200.00. The price of a nice Panzer; which I find somewhat ironic!

Then why are you on this thread? Seriously, the Gunn elephant is going to be nice, there Are too few elephant offerings in my opinion. The one you sited from Blackhawk is probably the worst one not counting the CS ones ever done. The Aeroart Chinese War elephant I have is probably one of the best I. My opinion.

I am on this thread because I collect TG figures and I want them to be the best that they can be!
My War Elephant photo shows an anatomically correct Asian Elephant; do you notice any differences between it and the TG prototype? You state that TCS and Black Hawk Elephants are not very good and that may be the case; but I do not believe that TG should join that club with an
ugly deformed Elephant.
Scale is not a big issue as both men and Elephants come in a range of sizes; however a mature male Asian Elephant model should stand at least 130mm at the shoulder in 1/30 IMO. The figure shown next to the 19th century Meiji Bronze Asian Elephant stands 65mm high.
This silly scale thing has gone on long enough........The upcoming Gunn release seems perfectly in the norms for the scale of the human figures to that of the elephant. This isn't an opinion , it's an obvious fact.
I did not put the Howdah on him in order to show the lines of the body and the size relationship to the figure, without distractions. A Howdah full of Roman or Carthaginian archers should qualify any Elephant as a War Elephant IMO. The Indian version would of coarse have full scale armor and spearpoint tusk weapons as well.
The conversation was not so much about scale as the correct anatomy of an Asian Elephant. The Elephant/Man size compatibility was a secondary issue. I am glad so many have found it amusing.
I have looked at a number of Aero Art War Elephants; some are very well done, others are overrated. Exceptional prices should require an exceptional model IMO.
I look forward to seeing TG's finished product with the accompanying figures.

Being that I have probably 50 plus different elephants (its a guess, I actually lost count), there is NO Aeroart elephant in my opinion that is ever overrated. They are hands down the best I have ever seen and even the older ones at their time and price blew the rest away. They are that good and exquisite in person.
Another early exceptional elephant in my opinion is the K&C Silk Road Elephant. That is a super nice piece and looks quite good.
Everyone has their opinion, but honestly, your comments regarding the worth of the CS or Black Hawk elephants and putting them in the same conversation is just nuts in my opinion. I will reiterate that the CS ones just may be the last in line of any "metal" toy soldier company's ever done. Now, I own them because I find charm in all elephants, but that said, they and the BlackHawk ones share zero space and commonality with my Aeroart ones, my Russian Other makers, Alymer's War Elephant, my other Commission elephants, the Beau Geste ones, etc.. You are comparing apples and oranges and it just doesn't work.
Finally, let's address the "Cranial Deformation". I am sorry, but it is not that odd, have you ever seen a video of a pack of Asian Elephants? Like Humans, they are all very different and I have seen some odd heads on them. Is it possible this looks more pronounced because we are looking at a up close hi res photo of a prototype? I think so, I do not think as with any model that I am going to be viewing it from "millimeters" away. I am going to eventually put it on a shelf or scene and enjoy it for what it is from closest about 3 feet. I doubt that the wrinkle of the head is going to bother 99.9% of the purchasers of this elephant.
Again, my post is meant to put this in perspective, not attack your opinion even if it appears that way. Everyone likes something different, but I think we are at a point where the lines are drawn, time to move on and get this thread back to the appreciation of a bold new product from Thomas Gunn.

And sadly a scale that approaches one for one.50 plus elephants! I thought your earlier post about 'never having too many elephants' was an exaggeration to make a point. I must withdraw that accusation. 50 ... wow. That's a lot of elephants.
