I have made some more progress on the diorama and have taken photos. The shape of the base and molding is finished and i had to add another layer of foam to accomodate for the groove for the ship's keels. One ship will be in the position it's in now and another will be sailing in. Iam doing some renovations on the ships with shields and different mast and rigging for stationary vessel. Also working on church ground and rock walls and more grass. Behind the ship will be some village buildings and i might extend the stronghold with more fortification and a watch tower. Until next time, Regards Greg.

Bit by bit it's taking shape. Starting to get an idea what the overall look is going to be. Robin.

This is shaping up very well Greg, you'll have an awesome dio once it's finished.

Should have some more photos this weekend as i have made some good progress. I've gotten to the stage where i will be starting to work on the dock area and will have to order some magic water soon. Regards Greg.

Hello to all, i'm back with some more photos and more progress has been made. Just about finished all buildings and barricades and happy to be getting away from sharpening pieces of wooden dowel. Will need to touch up a few areas though. The next area to be worked on is the water and this has been plastered and sanded as level as i can get it. You can probably see the grooves for the keels. This was not as difficult as i feared and my ships now sit flat. I have decided to use plastac ene to fill up grooves and keep out water, something i've used before. Have not decided on a colour to paint plaster before the pour and i'm open to suggestions from forum members. I was thinking of something light to brighten up the diorama. Maybe white first, then a light blue would be okay. None of the figures in the photos are in permanent positions and will probably vary with the finished scene. Having said that, i thought i would have a bit of fun and prominately placed viking carrying woman captive. I thought this would have made a good caption contest with something like, You are not bringing her on board, she looks like real trouble. The good old days when you saw something you liked and took it, but not without a fight.
The next time i post, hopefully the water will be done. Regards Greg.

The water will set this off, looking forward to the seeing it. Are you going to use the new Vikings from FL Greg? Like the figure carrying the loot from the raid. Robin.

It's coming along really nicey Greg and I used dark brown acrylic paint from an art supplier in the middle of my creek bed and lightened the brown as I got closer to the banks. This gave the perception of depth in the middle of my creek when the creek bed is actually quite flat. I also used a light coating of natural river sand which has a redish/brownish look to it. But the best results I got was mixing some moss green colortool spray paint in with the Magic Water. That gave the water a "murkish look" and also masked the bottom of my creek bed. The paint is made in the US but I got it from a supplier in Oz. Mike Miller on the forum put me onto it and it is pricey, but the tin will last a long time and if you get some and use it, you should achieve great results.

Don't forget mate that you have to make your bed water tight so the magic water doesn't leak out after you do the pour. Even a pin prick or the smallest of holes in your bed will enable the water to leak out before it cures.

Great work !

Really like the 'stone' walls...watching your "water" with interest.

Thank you for posting.

Thankyou Ivanhoe,Tony, Tom, Robin and Wayne for your comments and interest in the project. I found your information interesting Tom. I will experiment with colours and although i've ordered the magic water i'm not sure whether i will use it yet. There is another technique using silicon that dries clear and you dab it on over a painted surface. This gives the effect of a wave look that i like. I will try this to see how it turns out on a practise board. As for your question Robin, i will be using some First Legion figures and they look good. I also hope W.Britains new vikings and saxons come out soon, they will be a welcome boost. Might have to drag this out as long as i can. Until next time Regards Greg.
