Saxon village under attack from viking raiders (1 Viewer)

Congratulations on a excellent diorama. The fact that you made most of it from scratch just adds to the outcome.Well done that man.

Yes your right, I am mainly painting some Conte Vikings, Normans and Saxons. Plus some Barzso Merry men, most are a little chunky. But a few like the standing archers are great. Then I have found a few older figures that I have that are not to bad and I am going start convert figures. I used to paint good, lol. I have switched to Vallejo paints and am trying different tricks. Also I like the way the flesh looks on the Britains and am trying to match that color scheme. I should have about 20 or so finished. I like all the metal sets that are coming out, but I wished there was more plastic figures available to paint. I will put up a post in a few weeks showing how things are turning out. Thanks again, Mike.

I'm looking forward to seeing the outcome of your painting, Mike.I would say that i was a bit better than average at painting although i went to art school when i was a kid. The thing i tend not to like about plastic figures is the drooping weapons but the quality would have improved from the figures that i remember. Anyway thanks once again for your interest in the project and a special thanks to Tony and Wayne, who have been loyal supporters as well. Regards Greg.

Excellent diorama. I also used to create very large Viking/Saxon dioramas. However, My family complained that it was too gory and violent. So now, I've opted for a more politically correct scenario...I set up village and farm scenes of eastern European towns. It's very therapeutic as well.

Anyways, very nice diorama!

The vikings were farmers as well but their land was tundra that had slowly receded and was not as fertile as other lands. So they ventured afar looking for land and wealth. Firstly causing fear and mayhem they eventually mixed in with other cultures where they settled. Also using their great seafaring skills, they became traders and travelled to many places. With their legendary fighting skills they were also employed as mercenaries. I think they made their place in history and gradually integrated into the different communities.
I think the diorama turned out better then i thought it would, Howard. I reckon it actually looks better than the photos but i just can't capture the whole feeling of it on the camera. When i add more figures, it might highlight it more. Thanks again for the interest and also to the kraut, [ what a name] as long as your happy with it iam to . Regards Greg.

Looking good Greg !
On your small Viking ship did you utilise two of the Russian castings of Vikings on ships Prow ? However you did it, it looks good.
Steve

Yes you are correct Steve. I purchased two unpainted castings, cut one of the figures out and glued them to a wooden base. I then filled the sides between each end with strips of metal. It worked out well. Those photos are a couple of weeks old and i have purchased some more figures and more are on the way. Next time i post there will be a noticed variation in the diorama. Regards Greg.

A couple more photos added.

Excellent !

Don't recall seeing the 'church' before...probably my lack of memory...traveling now and accessing Forum from wife's computer...earlier pictures don't show up for some reason on her machine.

Thanks all for your response to those couple of photos. Still not done with that diorama as more is to be added. Regards Greg.
