Two figures by Bob Hornung: Thomas Becket and Charles I. I have tried to order more from the maker but have had no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Johnny,

White Tower makes some great figures! I am going to get some one of these days, Saxon and Viking line, But will wait a while longer due to space and weight issues with our next move across the pond to who knows where in the states.

Yes Mathew Thair does make some excellent and interesting ranges of figures. My Lionheart, was actually made up from a kit that is multi-functional. You have a choice of three horses - and then you choose how to make up your rider. He comes as a standard lower half - but then you can choose from a variety of heads/arms/weapons etcetera - to make up numerous poses and possibilities. I had been after a good "Richard" for quite a while in this pose - so chose the parts to make him up that way.

He also makes a range of Cowboys and Native Americans, which are great fun - and a reminder for me of my mis-spent youth in Saturday morning matinees at my local cinema in Cardiff - many moons ago! Here's a couple you might remember - as my next personalities - The Lone Ranger - and his faithful companion - Tonto. In my youth - these fictional Western characters were played by Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels - though I think there is a more modern version now with Johnny Depp playing Ke-mo-sah-bee (Faithful Friend).

Hi All,

Maqoma, King of the Xhosa, South Africa

based on an illustration in Mil Illustrated Mag, I made this figure from Preiser parts, sitting on a W Britains horse. Spear was made from wire. Cloak was from putty and painted to represent the cheetah skin worn inside, outside skin dyed red ochre. Yep, he's not wearing anything else. I know how some of you figure modellers like this sort of detail...:)

Hi.
This is a Guy Fawkes figure just recently made by Alexanders Toy Soldiers. The company made the figure out a conversion.

Did you do the painting on that?

Hi Zach - yes, I do all of my painting - as that's really my hobby. I like to find castings or kits of what I would like to collect - and then paint them for myself. I sometimes find old damaged Toy Soldiers, from various manufacturers - in need of a little TLC - and repair and paint these too. I did begin in the hobby by buying ready-made figures - but found this to be rather dissatisfying after a while - and not to say also rather expensive for me.

So.......I found some castings shortly after my daughter taught me how to use the Internet - and I was off on a new hobby of painting my own - which is MUCH more satisfying for me. I could always draw a bit as a lad - and also had a flirtation with painting in water-colours, so drawing/painting wasn't exactly new to me - and I've learned how to do it as I've gone along.

This particular model can be bought as either a painted one OR as an unpainted casting kit though, from RP World Models - who have a decent web-site. It's just that I choose to do them for myself. jb

Continuing with my personality figure - here's a couple more of my celluloid heroes from a mis-spent youth.:D

On the left is Hoppy - or Hopalong Cassidy, played by William Boyd. On the right is The Cisco Kid - played by a number of people over the years - though I remember Cesar Romero best in the role. Note that most of the early films were in Black and White - hence, perhaps, the outfits ( and horses!), mostly in those colours. jb

Both from castings by Whitetower Miniatures again ( and painted by me again - sorry Zach!^&grin).
