Shootings In El Paso (2 Viewers)

I thought this was a link to a story about how 421 people died last year slipping on banana peels, so bananas are actually more dangerous than guns.

Only thing dangerous about bananas is how they go Day 1 green, day 2 green, day 3 green , day 4 half yellow, day 5 all brown

Ok I quit reading half way thru when I got to the 100 round drum part.
Now I’m not saying chemical castration should be the law.but you have to admit is a good idea sometimes. I do have the feeling none of these moonbats have ever spent time in the military.

Sure, yuk it up but here in The People's Republic of Occupied New York ,open carry of bananas have been banned for 6 years. We are waaaaaay ahead of the curve here. Innocent women, children ,the aged and illegals all cringe in mortal fear of these lethal yellow(racist?)skinned harbingers of doom.

I saw this previously too and the guy didn't do anything illegal. I have 2 comments on it:

A. While you legally can do something, this is not a good exercise of your rights. There is no apparent threat and in my opinion, going through that airport at least 30 times a year, it has very tight security. I do not agree with the law there regarding carrying a weapon, it is unnecessary and I would be more afraid of the guy accidentally shooting himself or an innocent bystander in close proximity with that large of a crowd size.

B. Couple of factual inaccuracies in that article - He does not have a 100 round drum on the gun in those pictures - that is a 30 round magazine or 20, I can't tell the length. (30 is most common), so there is the typical dumb nuts reporting by our wonderful press.

Also - just to illustrate earlier - that is not an automatic weapon or assault rifle. The assault rifle version is the M 16 machine gun that is fully automatic and a military grade assault weapon. I still hate the assault weapon term - a shotgun is quite capable of assaulting someone.

Tom I didn't even get that far to see the picture. I read he brings a AR to the airport because he can and quit. There is no logical reason to do this. It makes the rest of us normal gun owners look like loons.
My castration comment was so he doesn't produce anymore offspring.

I own multiple versions of the AR platform. They are used at the range and at my family's farm for primarily target shooting, they are a fun weapon to use for that purpose, but there is no need to have one in the public square IMO.

Yup, I read it, lost 5 minutes out of my life I will never get back. I agree wholeheartedly, just no place for that kind of crap. You said it better than me, but again, what a pure idiot and it does defy logic.

What if someone thought that he might be there for a mass shooting.A lot of people could have gotten hurt. He's a idiot trying to be macho.

He got his 10 minutes of fame...
now he can go home and sit in his lazy boy and gun his gun and convince himself how cool he is...

A nutter went on a knife rampage is Sydney CBD today. Apparently killed a female in an apartment first and then went into the street where seriously injured another female and was trying to get others. Was chased and caught by members of the public. One picture shows a middle aged man facing him holding a chair and apparently when he was subdued he was held down with a milk crate. Apparently a fireman with an axe also seen responding.

Not seen it yet but a Ch 7 News camera crew happened to be nearby and has some very good footage of the incident.

Seems he has some mental health issues and was known to police.

Daily Mail has more details and probably Ch 7 web page and YouTube.

A clear abuse of the law, but nonetheless its the law in Georgia. I'm not condoning it and I agree with MM that this stunt was more about his 10 minutes than having a serious conversation guns in public, etc.

Now lets talk about laws. Read an interesting article this morning about gun running in Texas check it out:

https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/arming-mexican-cartels-inside-story-of-a-texas-gun-smuggling-ring-866836/

Interesting how there are relatively no laws on this issue. Sadly, I have a strange feeling that people are going to be more embolden and begin to start brandishing weapons openlyin public here in the US. This is going to get messy.

sad it's come to this...
but sales of bullet proof backpacks for students...
are up 200-300%...

this is not a fad...
or an obscure hard to find item...
Walmart...Office Depot...and several other major retailers are stocking these...
cost...about $100...

they will stop most hand guns...
but not high powered rifles...
they are not just for running away and protecting your back...
they have instructions to hold in front of you if you're cornered with no where to run...

Not sure this is a great idea. Could provide an illusion of safety or invincibility where none exists. The child MUST understand that it is a last resort option and not something to take the place of flight or more substantial cover. Even relatively low energy handgun ammo like 9mm or .38 is going to knock the kid into next week, not to mention what .45, .357, or 10mm will do. That said, I suppose any shield is better than none in a crisis such as a shooter, but I just don't like the idea that parents might see this as something that might keep their child safe. -- Al

Al...
if I had a child in school...
I would buy him one...
Mike, I probably would also but with the understanding that it is basically a wing and a prayer and the child must be taught that the backpack doesn't make him Superman. -- Al

I wouldn't buy my kid a $100 bullet proof backpack, unless you want him/her to be a fearful adult. Tell him to study hard and carry plenty books. That would stop a bullet. :) Actually you somehow have to teach your kids to be aware of their surroundings. Not necessarily for violent situations, but in general. I always try, but not working with my kids. I started too late.

This mostly a product of the culture of fear. Good for TV ratings. If you watch the Weather Channel, for example, you will be convinced that every storm is the end of times. The odds of being in a mass shooting event are about the same as being struck by lightning. It does happen and when it does it is terrible but you are much more likely to break your neck in the shower. No kid will ever be saved by a bullet proof backpack. Not one. It will just instill irrational fear in them. Much more likely that some kid tests it out for a You Tube video and winds up shooting themselves by accident. The great irony is that we are much safer today from gun violence than any time in the last couple of decades. The homicide rate has dropped quite a bit but you would never know it to watch the news. That doesn't mean there isn't a problem that should be addressed but the fear mongering is a product of an endless news cycle and politics.

My first thoughts on the subject went somewhat the same, that actual books in a backpack might be a better shield but I quickly realized that no one carries books anymore and I doubt a 1/2 thick PC is going to stop anything above a BB. -- Al

Mike,

My kids can't get one, because the school policy now is to have a clear plastic back pack following the Parkland Shooting. Its a conundrum of epic proportions.

I'm sure some Wyle E Coyote super genius in a lab coat somewhere will invent a bullet proof clear one too.
