Size Matters.... (1 Viewer)

For what i see
There's 1: the collector nice piece i buy it
2: the purist I would love this piece
but wrong marking i pass
wonderful piece
but not to scale i pass
So what are u into? scale or collecting?

Guys....

I am somewhat confused about posts about the firefly being bigger than a panzer IV its just not the case below are the measurements of the two tanks.
PanzerIV
Length: 7.02
width: 2.88
height: 2.68

Sherman firefly
Length: 5.89
width: 2.75
height: 2.62

Many allied tanks were smaller than their german counterparts so a smaller sherman would be spot on if it gets bigger these so called purists will be up in arms.

From what I read Brian has explained about the Tiger and the commercial reasons behind the decision the rest is spot on we await a firefly from CC but, think it may be a while with Figarti and K&C out. Until then the 'ronson' will have to put up with being a small tank on a big battlefield

...But the M4A3 Sherman (Firefly w/ the 17-pounder) was almost 10 tons heavier than the Pz IV Ausf. G. The K&C Firefly looks puny next to the CS model which creates a disparity that is unacceptable for me.

It may have been almost 10 tons heavier, but the hulls were almost the same size. Depending on which Panzer IV Ausf, the length and height of a Panzer IV (Ausf G or H) was within inches larger than a Firefly and about 6" wider.

The model Firefly should look very slightly shorter in hull length and height and noticeably narrower in width than a Panzer IV.

All this comparison is way too much for me to digest!
You want to discuss tanks that are not in scale, how about as a kid the old Marx tanks!

LOL, you have that one right Gary.

We've come a long way haven't we.

Who could forget the Duke! Back in the 50s, that's what baseball fans argued about, who was the best center fielder in the game, just like we argue now here as who's best!

Jurgen....

Getting back to the post!!!!. It was different in size and, although as you state heavier it did not look significantly different in appearance as many accounts from german tank crews and AT crews only saw the difference due to the longer gun.

Cannot see why its 'unnaceptable' when it was smaller than most german AFV's on the battlefield?

I think CS tanks are great, especially for dioramas. :D:D:D

Having the track blown off and dead crew make them versatile. :):)

They are a great price in the UK GBP125 v GBP209 for a KC version :rolleyes:

They fit fine with KC - see below.

Brain has explained that previously the scales were different - just like a number of others Figarti / KC etc. Not heard anyone offer to buy something back if you are not happy before - another nice touch and customer focused business.

Keep up the great work Brian

Cheers

Based on actual dimensions, the Shermans look close enough in reletive size to the Panzer4, K/C's Cromwell looks OK. The most glaring problems are with the Tigers and Panthers that are out there. Does anyone has a compare photo of CS Panther next to Panzer4, or at least can give the measurements ( inches, please) of the CS Panther and the Stuart variant. I have neither of these 2 models. As to the actual width of the Panzer4, does anyone know if this includes the extending side skirts? Michael

The dimensions I put up were 'skirtless'. The panther has just been used by Rob in a dio on the K&C section. Remember the panther for all its 'medium' tank status was a huge tank compared with most other AFV's so, I would expect a panther to be big compared to most AFV's including german

LOL...well, I set out with the intention of proving my case, but I'm not sure I accomplished that. Here's what I have:

Pz IV Ausf. G
Length - 6.62 meters
Width - 2.88 meters
Height - 2.68 meters

M4A3 Sherman (Firefly)
Length - 5.91 meters
Width - 2.62 meters
Height - 2.74 meters

TankComparison001.jpg

1:72 scale Forces of Valor and Dragon Armor

TankComparison002.jpg

1:72 scale

TankComparison003.jpg

TCS Pz IV Ausf. G; K&C Firefly 1:30

1:30 scale

Well...I proved nothing, but had fun doing it.

IMO they look correct together. The Firefly is the slightly longer version of the Sherman.

Your measurement for the Sherman is just for the hull, but includes the gun for the Panzer IV - without it's gun, the Panzer IV is slightly shorter than the Firefly.

If you remove the side skirts, the Panzer IV should look only a bit wider than the Firefly and that looks to be the case.

Certainly seems so. For vehicles, this should be rather clear.
