Snow Tiger (1 Viewer)

I agree with a lot of you that this might be the best K&C Tiger yet. It looks awesome in the photos, and the crew is fantastic as well. I'm thinking I'm going to probably add this to my collection... will have to forgo some other purchases for a while if I do though. My current budget won't allow this with my normal purchases. Oh well, in the meantime until this comes out, I have another Tiger from Pz Abt 502 that will have to do for now.:)
Nice dio. The Tiger's disruptive camo is really quite effective, espacially from above. -- Al

Thanks. I think the grey and white together make a nice look, and K&C's version looks to be super. It'll make for some great winter scenes.

Excellent dio the Tiger 1 looks stunning as does the snow effect you have got. Great work

Great scene, Duke. I have already ordered the new Tiger. It's pushed a few pieces down the list. Don't want to miss this one.

Thanks jbonzo and Mitch. Dragon Armor did a nice job on the 1/35 Tiger I posted from Pz Abt 502, but this K&C "Snow Tiger" being a polystone 1/30 scale beast looks too good to pass up. I have the older K&C Winter Tiger and it is nice although undersized a tad (as has been discussed many times before), but what makes it so special to me is the crew. This new "Snow Tiger" also has great looking crew figures.

crawling guy...

None of the tank crew that fit in the hatches have legs they are all shoulder or half body figures

Lancer;
I cannot understand given the advances made in pierced sprockets achieved by Honor Bound and Figarti why King and Country cannot do the same on a high end product. Customers should not have to improve the product with a paint bruch to achieve what other manufactrers are providing! Regards

I agree, especially at the price the Tiger cost. Still, it is a great model. -- Al

Katana...

That is a great question. I see they have painted the latest version but, I think the track section is all one mould so, to do this would require more work and probably then cost more

is this camo scheme for Battle of the Bulge timeframe?

Not really. The snow Tiger has white over panzer grey (used in the winter of 42/43 in Russia) and by the time of the Battle of the Bulge, most all German vehicles were painted with a base of dark yellow.

This snow Tiger is painted for the time period of the Jan.-March 1943 Kharkov battles. I have found plenty of photographic evidence for snow painted Mk.2's, 3's, and 4's in these particular battles, but no Tigers. Any of our resident Panzer experts know if the Tiger was engaged at Kharkov and if so, with what units? Appreciate any info. -- Al

Lancer..

4/SS PzRgt1 (among others) were at Kharkov I believe though thats from memory not near any books and Tigers were used in the battles

The Snow Tiger, Kursk Tiger and Tunisian Tiger are all early Tiger I models as typified by the turret cupola style. Middle and late production Tiger I's used a cupola like the Panther G. Late production also used steel wheels and a small muzzle brake. Regards

I did find 1 photo of a gray Tiger, labeled as in the Kharkov area. My printed resources are limited and I have no order of battle. I know the 1SS, 2SS, and 3SS were all engaged but all my other photos are Mk. 2's,3's, and 4's. -- Al

Lancer...

I have pics of grey and whitewashed Tiger 1 at Kharkhov inside the city from LAH veterans so both painted grey and whitewashed were in action. I can give you references for order of battle but its all book form and not web sites as I often don't look at them.

At the min I have just been looking at the TG para's in the rubber raft so, mind is elsewhere.

Thanks Mitch, thats the kind of info I was after. -- Al

Tigers were in heavy tank battalions acting independently or attached to Panzer divisions. The K&C snow tiger is modeled after Tiger 111 of 1./s.Pz.Abt.502 during January of 1943 at Mga near Leningrad. The unit had 5 Tigers. The tank numbers were just white outlines.

As for Kharkov in February-March 1943, I think only ss.Panzer 2 "Das Reich" had any Tigers in s.Pz.Abt. 503 and 505. I have a photo somewhere of a grey whitewashed Tiger from one of these units with a solid black number.
