Snow (1 Viewer)

Got hit again the other night with another inch of snow and ice. Getting dumped on right now with freezing rain AND tomorrow night they are calling for the possible biggest storm of the season in our area with a possible 8 or so inches of snow. This is a never-ending run of snow, ice, and sub-normal temps like we haven't seen in a long time. Already have several inches of frozen snow/ice/whatever on the ground and now more on the way. Oh boy. The body shops and hospitals are doing a booming business. :rolleyes2: -- Al

Good luck with that ICE ..{sm2} Jeeezzzz, as much as I hate snow, ICE is worse.
Add 5" on my total for yesterday's storm and another 3"-5" for tonight's storm ..... means we will be passing the 10 FOOT mark ... over 125" total this season by tomorrow night.

GOOD news is that for the first time since December we will see temps above freezing and "HOPEFULLY" get some melting a the end of this week.

Good lord, that's a lot of frozen water. Are you sure you want melting? That much snow and ice turned to water could make for submarine weather.:rolleyes2: -- Al

This weather is a pip!

This weekend my son was taking a course for a security guard license in Secaucus, about 45 minutes from here, and on Sunday it snowed. The driving was awful and it took about an hour and a half to get there.

On Tuesday late afternoon, it snowed again around here. That day I had taken the front wheel drive car to work and it was pretty harrowing getting home. Wasn't sure I was going to make it in one piece.

Today, it's snowing again. It's a white out.

March is trying to live up to the sobriquet of going in like a lion and going out like a lamb.

Forecasters were right. It's snowing and once again we have a winter wonderland in DC. Everything is closed, which in the case of the Congress, is not a bad thing. I would suggest that anyone who has not seen DC in the snow, come on and visit. Just don't expect to be able to go anywhere or visit anything. Being trapped in your car for hours has become a tradition in a DC snowstorm. It's a real hoot.:rolleyes2: -- Al

It is getting tiresome. On Tuesday when I left work, I was about to get on the highway heading north and saw the traffic was backed up. I put the car in reverse and went south and took the back roads. The next day, I found out there had been a two hour backup. Whew!

JANUARY 10
It's 5:00 P.M. It's starting to snow. The first of the season and the first one we've seen in years. The wife and I took our hot buttered rums an sat by the window watching the soft flakes drift down, clinging to the trees and covering the ground. It was beautiful.

JANUARY 11
We awoke to a lovely blanket of crystal white snow covering the landscape. What a fantastic sight. Every tree and scrub covered with a beautiful white mantle. I shoveled snow for the first time in years and loved it. I did both the driveway and the sidewalk. Later a city snowplow came along and accidentally covered up our driveway with composted snow from the street. The driver smiled and waved. I waved back and shoveled it again.

JANUARY 12
It snowed an additional 5 inches last night and the temperature has dropped to around 11 degrees. Several limbs on the trees and shrubs snapped due to the weight of the snow. I shoveled the driveway again. Shortly afterwards, the snowplow came by and pulled his trick again. Now much of the snow is brownish-gray.

JANUARY 13
It warmed up enough during the day to create some slush which soon became ice when the temperature dropped again. Bought snow tires for both cars. Fell on my butt in the driveway. $145.00 to a chiropractor, but nothing was broken. More snow and ice expected.

JANUARY 14
Still cold as heck. Sold the wife's car and bought a 4x4 to get her to work. Slid into the guardrail anyway and did a considerable amount of damage to the right rear quarter panel. Had another 8 inches of this white misery fall last night. Both vehicles are covered in salt and crud. More shoveling in store for me today. That idiot on snowplow came by twice today.

JANUARY 15
It's 2 friggin degress outside. More friggin snow. Not a tree or shrub on our property that hasn't been damaged. Power was off most of the night. Tried to keep from freezing to death with candles and a kerosene heater, which tipped over and nearly burned the friggin house down. I managed to put the flames out but suffered 2nd degree burns on my hands and I lost all my eyelashes and eyebrows. The car slid off the road on the way to the emergency room and was totaled.

JANUARY 16
God dang friggin white wretchedness keeps on coming down. Have to put on all the clothes we own just to get to the friggin mailbox. If I ever catch that idiot that drives the snowplow, I'll chew open his chest and rip his heart out. I think he hides around the corner and waits till I shovel our driveway again! Power is still off. Toilet froze and part of the roof has started to cave in.

JANUARY 17
Six more friggin inches of friggin snow and friggin sleet and friggin ice and no telling what other kind of white friggin white purgatory fell last night. I wounded the friggin snowplow moron with an my shovel, but he got away. Wife left me. Car won't start. I think I'm going snow-blind. I can't feel my friggin toes. Haven't seen the sun in 8 weeks. More white torment is predicted. Wind chill is 22 friggin degrees below.

I'm moving my butt back to Texas!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder if the amount of snow we've had means there's more moisture in the air and if it means we'll have a cooler, wetter spring than in the past few years.

It's been snowing all day here. Maybe four inches on the ground on top of the previous snow. Most everything is shutdown. So a good day to sit at home and watch it play out on TV. Very grateful I'm not flying anywhere. The airports must be awful.

Got a good laugh out of this. Normally, living south of the Mason-Dixon exempts us from MOST of this type of thing, but this year has been unusually cold with the accompanying ice and such, so the story is very appropriate. {sm2} -- Al

Unfortunately for many of you south of the Mason-Dixon Line, it's snowing there too {eek3}

Just ask Al.

it was in the mid 70's here yesterday...
I had to turn on my air conditioner...
cold front came in today...in the mid 40's...
that's soooooooooo cold for us...

just don't know how you guys do it...

I couldn't live there....I would really miss my golf...

Waiting for the temps to get up into the 40's, to give my furnace a break. And playing golf is just a matter of adjustment..,you use an orange ball.:wink2: -- Al

Al...

I guess you have to "eyeball calibrate" the trajectory and landing area of the ball...
find the hole in the snow where the ball entered...
then judge the angle of entry into the snow...
then dig through the hole into the snow where it landed til you find it.
then clear an area for your next shot...
then hit again...

but how do you putt?

That's the easy part. You measure the distance to the hole by placing your foot heel in front of the the ball and then walking heel to toe up to the hole, carefully counting your footsteps. It just so happens that this method leaves a nicely made trench to the hole that the ball follows very well. This is a good method unless there is a frozen crust, then all bets are off. :wink2: -- Al

Ended up with 9-10 inches and it is all frozen solid as temps are now in the low teens, headed into the low 20's. Happy. happy, joy, joy. On the up side, temps supposed to be into the 50's by middle of next week. Tis the season to be flooded. :rolleyes2: -- Al

When you say warm in Toronto, do you mean that you can now retrieve your newspaper without fear of frostbite or does that have to wait until July?:rolleyes2:^&grin -- Al
