So what is going to happen to your collection? (1 Viewer)

Along with an inventory of items the rough value and rarity etc my wife has the details of one or two people to contact,on top of this she knows quite a bit about my collection and some of the most likely high sellers,I'm confident she knows just what she's doing.......in fact if I suddenly disappear, call the Police!;)

Rob

Why would Wraith and I call the police? That would be foolishly incriminating.

MIKE.....I wont let them commite you! I have 3 spare bedrooms, you and
your puppy and your troops are welcome any time in the NORTH.
Have a good day MIKE.

From the responses so far, most of you are going to leave it up to your wife. What happens if she isn't there? Is there a plan "B"?

It really depends on her and the children.
If they want to deal with it and have insight into what it costs then that is fine.
Not having it formally valued or assessed will keep it out of the estate and reduce estate and death taxes.
However they might not be interested and capable.
In which case I plan in about five years time to formally value the collection and insure t so that it will be included in any estate that I leave behind.
I think it is a real concern.
There are other collectors "antiquarian books, art, etc" who are in a similar situation.
That is why a propper administartor for a will is important.
Once again the more work they have to do the bigger their commission, but it is better than letting a valueable collection go for a song.

Short of a sudden demise,I have planned to liquidate things gracefully,if not the arrangements are made for things to go on, being the caretaker for now,,Same for my 1/1 scale autos

In the event of my demise...if I have a collection left at that time...

I'm entrusting the sale of my collection by a good friend on Treefrog...

the only immediate family I have is a sister, a brother in law and two nephews...

currently I'm sure my collection is worth well over $10,000.00...maybe closer to $20,000.00...

my sister is not the type to shop for...or sell...to get a "good deal"...

she is impatient and has a busy personal life...

I could see them all in an estate sell going for pennies on the dollar ...

me and her have already discussed this a little bit...me explaining that in the event of my death...don't just throw all the soldiers in a box...they are very expensive...

I save all my boxes and have a complete inventory...

I have spoken to a fellow Treefrogger about disposing of my collection...

He is savvy...he is informed and most important...I trust him...

We have discussed him liquidating my collection and receiving a commission...

I have no formal terms with him yet...but perhaps it's time I wrote something up..

He is a good friend and has agreed to help if something ever happens to me...

I don't believe anyone in my immediate family would pursue my collection...so I'm sure selling them would be the best option...

the biggest problem is...my family has no idea what they are worth...

if they did...they might have me commited...:D

Geez, Mike, now that our secret is out, I thought that I was just going to keep your collection for myself and be buried ,with twice as much soldier stuff!:D:D:D ( Disclaimer: I am not his best forum friend..Of course now every other forum member will imagine they are..) The other Michael

I consider myself very lucky to have a 5year old boy who is into it! He likes everything I collect, he is literally a minime, it drives my wife crazy. As a matter of fact, in my current will, he (or in trust til 25) trumps my wife on decision making which says that every collection I own cannot be touched/sold by my wife and that she has to maintain it until my son is eligible to make the decision.

I am also doing a full inventory with value so that once done it is easily maintained, this has also allowed me to dispose of parts of my collection I am still scratching my head on why I bought it!!!!!

My father did the same with me and that is why I now have a huge Toy Train collection also to deal with.

On top of that, I have a large, stamp, coin, Royal Doulton Jug, Bossons, Autographed memorabilia, etc. My son will have a lot to dispose of or keep......

My main problem now is too much, so I have focused only on toy soliders for the current time being. If I sold it all, I could start over!!!!!!!!

My girls will take a few bits and pieces as a momento, but I've said to them that they need to put up a notice on my website "Toy Soldiers On-Line Gallery", http://members.upnaway.com/~obees/soldiers/
which is a catalog of all the troops I have painted saying that they are for sale, so send in bids.

They can box up all of the K&C, Frontline ect, and add them as well, so its will be a complete catalog.

Holy cats, Obee!! That is one heck of a collection you have, and I am guessing that you cast many and painted most illustrated on your site.

Funnily enough, I found your site years ago and it helped me identify a number of unrecognized manufacturers. I lost the link quite a long time ago and am delighted to now have it again. You'd be surprise how much it guided and inspired me. Thanks.

My fear is that my wife will sell my collection for what I told her that I paid for them!!!

I am letting my kids pick one (or two sets) to keep for themselves to remember me, hock on ebay and piss the proceeds away,. etc.

The remains of my toy soldier and GI Joe collection are to be auctioned off with 100% of the proceeds going to the Children's Miracle Network.

My GI Joe skystriker is going to be tucked under my left arm to help me "fly on into those pearly gates" and my three favorite Joe as a kid- Hawk, Duke and Beachead are going to be tucked in my left breast pocket so I can pick up and play with my buddies who went before me. :)

I really like your idea of the proceeds going to a worthwhile charity. I wonder if any of the auction houses would cooperate on their fee! Thanks for your response.
