Juuuuuuuust a bit one-sided. Is Portugal that good or N.Korea that over-matched? Me thinks a bit of both. It was an impressive display. -- Al

Well theres some more absurd face holding and diving from the Swiss team v Chile, they should join the Swiss diving team for the Olympics:rolleyes:

Instead of sitting back and playing chessboard football against a strong defence as the top teams have done and a Portugal did in their first game, they added speed to their lineup and sent the forwards in on long runs/long passes to break up the defensive cohesion. Spain will need to do the same and to some extent Brazil and England.

In this world cup, even weak teams have strong, disciplined defenses of well conditioned players and the only weapon against them is speed. Carefully moving the ball up the field doesn't seem to work.

7-0, that's a good one albeit against probably the worst team of the tournament;).
Also I have to say this: take that Kim Adolf Stalin...:D, will your players ever come back?

Nice, and congratulations Paulo. It is good for the team and the morally.

We have an appointment this Friday June 25th....

Se cuide.

The result was a little unsatisfying because Spain needs the goal differential. Although they have a one goal lead on the Swiss, you can expect the latter to beat Honduras. Spain will need to win in any event. If Spain and the Swiss win that means the top three will have 6 points each and the best gd will decide which two go. Could get interesting. If Spain wins 1 nil and the Swiss 2 nil, they're all tied with 3 for and 1 against. I think then it goes to goals scored but no victor there. After that I think it's head to head. That's why that missed pk looms very large.

How in the name of God do you miss that penalty kick, especially considering the goalie guessed wrong and dove to his right, the WHOLE NET was wide open and he shanked it.

I mean wow, you could have fired that one home Brad.

Felt bad for the other guy who got some of his chicklets knocked out, looked like two unless they were already missing.........

George,
Penalties are very stressful for the player, and not at all for the goalkeeper. The keeper just have to choose one side and jump. it is very normal to see this kind of mistakes special on the world cup when the stress level is very high.

but in the same time, how can you miss when the Goal has 7m meters wide (around 22 feet)....

Cheers

All the ESPN can talk about is that blown call that cost the US a goal. I hope that Team USA has moved past that. It's a done deal and I would hope they have accepted it and are mentally prepared fot the big game against Algeria. Now, if only ESPN will move on and let us forget it. -- Al

For sure, all the pressure is on the shooter, the goalie simply guesses and dives left or right, left for a left handed shooter, right for a right handed shooter and hope the ball hits him.

For the shooter, he's on pins and needles saying to himself "Don't miss, Don't miss, Don't miss, Don't miss"................and pray to God for a positive result............

I agree on both counts. As the tournament progresses and if a game is decided on PKs, you'll see a lot of misses. It's not physical, just mental, particularly if you start to think about how the nation is counting on you. It can probably be a little overwhelming.

Yo Troopers, seen all the teams now, still say the ball has messed up this World Cup. Just thinking must change the song for the winners, you heard it first here lol:rolleyes:.

"DONT SMILE FOR ME ARGENTINA";)

Bernard.

You may be right. Yesterday Torres hit a cross that was nowhere close to where it should have been.

Although the Spanish press was delighted with the win, the manager was less so and lamented the the missed opportunities. Let's hope they put it together on Friday.

France's situation goes from bad to downright disgraceful,I understand there are questions being asked in France about the racial make up of the team now:eek:The normally passionate fans sound thoroughly sick of the team now.

On the England front John Terry has been firmly put in his place by the sound of it,his 'coup' failed miserably with no support from the players.Me thinks he is still raw from losing the captaincy.
