South Africa 2010 (3 Viewers)

I have to agree with Bernard. The US got to the quarters in 2002 and have been to every cup since 1994.

They also went to the final of the Confederations Cup last year, actually leading Brasil 2-0 before eventually losing.

There is also a chance we me may host again in 2016.

So cmon Pete, pay attention to the jogo bonito more often.

Brad, there is no Cup on 2016...next will be in Brasil 2014.

Regards

Well I enjoyed the opening and the SA V Mexico game, but thought France V Ur pretty dull, not that France deserve to be there anyway;).

Rob

That's how France started last Wold Cup 0 - 0 vs Switzerland.

Now 3 of the French stars won't pass to each other and Malouda isn't getting along with the manager and spent most of the game on the bench.

Draws, draws and more draws! The 1st game syndrome, I guess we'll see a lot of draws until the last group games when some teams will have to go all out to try and qualify. In the meanwhile a few more draws tomorrow:D.

Paulo

I am looking forward to see the England vs. U.S. game tomorrow and just got an invitation to a party for sunday around the Australia vs. Germany game. Hope to see not too many draws in these first rounds.

Whats with the audio??? I was watching (or tried) on ESPN2 and the whole thing sounds like a swarm of angry bees??

Nothing wrong with the audio. That buzzing is from South African noisemakers. Get used to it because it will likely continue for the whole tournament.

I'm watching and trying to like this game, but 1-1 and 0-0? ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ... (and that buzzing is so annoying I turned off the sound during the 2nd match). -- Al

I thought the SA match was pretty good. Great strike for 1-0.

France shouldn't be there and Uruguay was trying not to lose. That being said, Forlan (who used to play for Man U) should have buried that shot at point blank range.

Thanks for the LOL post Al, you are one comical guy; 0-0, wow, what excitement....

Read an interesting online article recently that made several excellent points, among them is the problem in the US with soccer is we've got SIX other major sports in this country; NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, NCAA football and NCAA basketball. All are more popular than soccer will ever be, it's the worlds one true sport, just not here and sad to report that's just the way it is.

Pete is right, if I fell over a member of the US national team I wouldn't have the slightest idea of who the guy was. In other countries, their national players are viewed as Gods.

The article went on to say basically as Americans, we are proud to be American, but none of us are actually from here, we're all from somewhere else, while other nations place HUGE emphasis on soccer and view it with a countrywide sense of pride and honor, the WORLD Cup is huge around the WORLD, just not here in the US.

I am Italian and Greek, but I am born and raised in the US; if I was born and raised in either Greece or Italy, I'd be a soccer fantatic for either country. When Italy was in the finals and won it several years ago, I was happy for my fellow Italians, but if they lost, I wouldn't have stepped in front of a moving train.

So there you go; please don't hate us for not being into soccer fellas, it's not in our blood, accept for Brad, who knows what nation has won the last dozen world cups and the name of every player on every nations team, his height, weight, marital status, hair color, eye color, etc, etc.......:p

He'll be our go to guy for soccer; oh, sorry, futbol out on the pitch where after two halfs it's nil, nil.............

I don't really agree with you George. Let's not forget there was no soccer league here before 1995 or so. That's only 15 years ago. It's starting to make inroads slowly. The Red Bulls here in the New York just opened their stadium (around 30,000 or so I think) so it's slow but it's growing. Will it ever supplant the big 3? Unlikely, but it could become number 4 over time.

I'm sure tomorrow's England US match will be interesting. You'll be some great players from both sides.

Well if thats what it's going to sound like for every match it looks like I'll be watching the highlights on espn for the world cup, Sorry it's one thing to make crazy noises for big games or for great plays but make noise just to make noise??? my understanding of sports is Juuuust a little different.:(

Well the difference between sports like rugby cricket and football etc compared to American sports is that whenever they have world cups they are exactly that. Competitions between many different countries watched across the world. Now when their is a world series in baseball well there seems to be only one country involved. No-one comes on here and complains about people discussing basketball American football etc even though most of the rest of us have no clue or interest so please leave us to chat about what interests us.

Well if you want to drive anywhere over here today,6pm is the time to go.The streets will be deserted as the nation settles down, opens the beer and gets ready to cheer themselves silly as we play the US.Over here its always the same,we have most of the nation totally obsessed for the next month whilst a legion of housewives and the uninterested bemoan the fact that for the next four weeks there is football dominating the tv.The tv channels put on dozens
of period dramas to try and make it up to them, but for non sport fans things are about to get worse.Wimbledon looms!.

I love the world cup myself, every four years we have this festival of nations playing in possibly the biggest competion in the world, the colour, atmosphere, skills and national enthusiasm are great to watch.

Lets just hope for no more 0-0 draws, and COME ON ENGLAND!

Rob

If everybody wannt to watch a great football game than you must watch tommorow when SLOVENIJA play against Algeria.........

It will be a masterpiece of a football, the real school of a football present by Slovenian football team.
You can see what a strong team Slovenija is,one of the best on the tournament.

Yo Troopers, have to agree with some of the guys about people blowing the horns its a real nuisance trying to listen to the commentary of the match. Must also be very off putting for the players. The first two games were not up to much, but nerves play a big part in this, nobody wants to lose. But they were four teams that wont go far in this tournament. Be different when you see the better teams play like Spain etc, be very surprised if the England/USA is 0-0. Hope damian the Surgeon General is not on standby after the game:eek:lol. But also hope something good comes out of this World Cup for Africa, and the plight of some of the African Countries starving due to drought.
Bernard.
