Mike,

The Four Feathers is a great movie which I have had the pleasure of watching several times over.

This is one of the few movies which features the British Square formation.

The regimental ball was also great and this was filmed on location at Blenheim Palace, one of my favourite places to visit in the UK.

Blenheim Palace was also featured in Young Winston.

Have a Great Weekend, Raymond.:)

Good Morning Martyn,

Thanks very much for the interesting link to "The Four Feathers".

I was also not aware that there were 7 versions of this movie.

Here are 2 shots of the British Square (2002 version) from the internet.

I apologise the the poor image quality as I had to compress the photos.

Cheers, Raymond.:)

I avoided the 2002 version but have the 1939 version on DVD and it is a favorite. Is it worth seeing the 2002 version?
Martyn great figures as always.

Hi Damian,

As I have not seen the 1939 version of the Four Feathers, I am unable to make a comparison and any recommendation.

The 2002 version is still in current distribution, so why not give it a try.

Cheers, Raymond.

The one I have is the 1939 version...Super! I didn't know that the palace was in Young Winston. I cn't get the DVD in North American format, only PAL:eek:, still looking.
That square looks great!

Give it a go Damian but be prepared for a few historical mistakes;)

That version is by far the best, did you know the script for "Storm over the Nile" made in 1955 is exactly the same, they even used clips from the 1939 original.

I picked up the Four Feathers about four years ago at HMV in Gloucester if I remember correctly. It is pretty good.
They had kakhi tunics in that version.

Hi Damian

The various films, although with the same basic story line, tend to jump around the Egypt and Sudan campaign quite a bit.

The 1939 and 1955 versions feature Omdurman, whereas the 2002 version is set in 1885 and the Battle of Abu Klea (thirteen years before Omdurman) and instead of winning this battle the British lose:confused:

Raymond is right, in "real life" we won but in the 2002 film we lost. Just to rub it in the British square, in the film, was broken by Dervish dressed as British cavalry:rolleyes:

Cheers

Martyn:)

Sounds like I was right to give it a miss.:D
