Sudan Campaigns 1880 - 1898 (3 Viewers)

Martyn: You need another streamer! That is a terrific display. Thanks for posting it. Tedtoy has a great dock you might want to consider. You must have camped by Len's shop door to amass such a fine collection.

Hi Tommy

Many thanks, I am very pleased you like it.

That is a very nice dock, a couple of weeks ago I asked TM Terrain if they would make me a dock and, fingers crossed, it could be ready at the London Show or just after.

I had a very long chat with Len last week and he told me of his visit to Texas and your great displays, he sends his regards by the way.

I am looking forward to seeing your AZW sets

Cheers

Cheers Mike and well spotted;) I bet you knew Billy Russell was attached to Lord Wolseley's Staff in the AZW and Egyptian campaign.

Martyn,
Great to see all those wonderful sets displayed with your new paddle steamer. Bravo!

The Moonlight Charge at Kassassin Lock 1882

General Graham had to secure the Lock and its precious contents – drinking water – without which Wolseley’s campaigns against Arabi Pasha had no hope of succeeding.

Graham was out-numbered five to one and was being hard pressed by the Egyptians. As darkness fell, the Household Cavalry including squadrons from the Horse Guards and the 1st Life Guards led by Lieutenant-General Sir Drury Curzon Drury-Lowe GCB (of AZW Battle of Ulundi fame) attacked by moonlight, the famous Moonlight Charge. The Egyptian Army fled the field.

Hi Martyn,

A very impressive display of the charge.

I think you have a full set of the mounted 1st Life Guards.

It puts my "motley crew" of the 21st Lancers to shame.

Thanks, Raymond.:)

Exellent! You should go to the new Household Cavalry museum at Horse Guards, some of the original kit is still present. One of our battle honours that we are most proud, I don't know if many people realise just how dangerous it is to go at full tilt in the dark.

Household Cavalry Museum at Horse Guards

This is a "must visit" for my next London trip.

It can't be too far from the Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms.

The link to the website:

Thanks, Raymond.:)

Many thanks Martin and Raymond, I've put that down as a "must visit" as well

Hi Raymond

I'll bet your "motley crew" are just fine, let me know if you get tired of them and I will find room in the stables:D

Beautiful sets, Martyn. Everytime you all display your wonderful Trophy sets I once again find myself lamenting the demise of Trophy. Their figures were just so colorful, sturdy and graceful. Just the ultimate glossy figures. -- Al

I knew you'd grant my wish Martyn featuring your newly acquired mounted Cavalry in action and can't thank you enough for sharing them. Great action scenes and photos.......Joe
