Sudan Signal Tower (1 Viewer)

I really like that Trophy piece...not surprised they would produce such a quirky pose...but can we please talk more about serge grey, cause I don't think we have beaten that topic to death yet. :)

NB: I think that officer is wearing serge grey underpants (with a hint of blue).

I'm hoping that Michael will paint the signal tower a serge grey with light blue trim. :D

the funeral services for that horse were last month...

he died a painful death...

Until a signal tower is available this will have to do;)

Yeh but what shade of light blue trim?:D

Civil War blue-grey--sort of a combo of Union Sky Blue and Confederate Grey

As Mike Snook informed us it was all due to Wolseley's love of Reb Civil War uniforms:;) [Note use of light blue emoticon]

I would plump for myth - for the simple reason that it surely can't be coincidental that Wolseley chose grey when he commissioned a uniform for 1873 and then the 1882 uniform was also grey. It's true I think that the first attempts to replicate Indian 'kharkee' in English factories were less than successful - but I don't associate that failure with what I believe was the slightly earlier and entirely intentional project to produce a grey field uniform for Egypt.

It is perhaps no coincidence that Wolseley spent time in the field with the (of course grey-clad) Confederate Army in the Civil War. He met Lee and Longstreet and certainly thought very highly of Lee. He once wrote that he had only two heroes - Gordon and Lee. Not a bad pair to choose as one's heroes

Just thinking about adapting a tower. Does anyone see any potential in the upcoming K&C German Control Tower AK059 (Mid Sept)? Looking at the photo's of this, it seems a fairly basic structure, the kind you might find in Sudan. Obviously the flag, search light/machine gun would not be needed and perhaps not the drum. If the roof does not come off, I may consider snipping it off to make it look like less of a guard tower and more like a platform lookout. Any thoughts...............Robin.

Robin...you're pretty handy...you could build this tower for $3.00 tops...

You give me way too much credit, but you know food always tastes better when someone else makes it. I always see the flaws in my knock ups and my painting skills are poor. My best work is when I combine other peoples talent into a scene of my own.

Michael will send you the popsicle sticks!

You could make it out of plastic card. Score and snap all the basic shapes then use something pointy like a dart head to engrave the wood grain. Personaly I think the ladder would take the most time.

I made this Sudan signal tower for my Jenkin's Nile figures...I changed it a little from the picture Randy posted...it looked a little rickety if it was going be that high...so I beefed mine up a little bit...I think I will put mine on top of my garrison...I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out...hope John makes an officer with a telescope...

Michael:

I see you finished it!! Congrats! It looks great...I am still shocked by the results you can get with a few popsicle sticks! You got a flag to stick on that?!

hmmmm, not too bad I must say. You have the jump on me, I will return at the end of the month with mine.

Mike, you don't hang about do you! This looks great  can't wait to see all your buildings together.

Outstanding. Have you thought of going into the Susan War building business for collectors to support your hobby? You could become the Hudson & Allen of the Southwest.
