Thanks Jeff.I would love to see a complete 1/30 Scale pillbox, would be great for both Home front/Normandy dio's.We get MG posts and the like, but we need proper large pillboxes.

I am going to start photographing military items when i go to London through the summer. From buildings to pillboxes from Wellington to Churchill i will be posting some well known and some obscure and some downright Bizarre places, monuments and strucutres to do with the defence of our fair city.

Now i know how to post theres loads i want to do!;)

Rob,
My Uncles Nat & John both flew 17's and 51's, respectively out of your blessed country. I know a B-17 sortie would be a little huge to do for a dio, so how about.....BALLOONS & SPOTLIGHTS!!!!!!

Hey that would be cool.Last time at the London show I saw a model of a barrage balloon with guys hanging on the guide ropes,it was more like 1/72 scale but looked very good. Can't remember the company though:confused:.

Your uncles have my deepest respect:)

Rob,

Make one!
Use some styrofoam, bit of chopping and hacking and you're there!

Now you've started, you can't just stop!

The foam itself will give a good concrete finish. Nowt to lose, everything to gain. Start hacking man! :)

Take a tip when using styrofoam for the very first time-Be afraid- very afraid

I can usually scratch build -in a fashion- most things for my dios but I had better results with fuzzy felt than I did when trying to build Alamo walls and buildings out of large chunks of that darn foam (and this is the guy who won a prize for his boy on Blue Peter for building him a Tracy Island out of old bog rolls and biscuit tins :D)

I have stated on other threads that I doff my old gray kepi to the likes of Simon; Tim; Alex and others who have turned out magnificent foam structures but that skill is absolutely beyond me-my Alamo walls ended up looking like cat scratching posts.

Rob if you have that skill I'll willingly add you to my experts list but when you start carving for the first time-trust me- it aint easy and have plenty of black-sacks handy to throw all your rejects in :D

Hi Reb,

You're referring to the white plastic stuff (Styrofoam?) that's used for packaging materials for TV's, Ghetto-Blasters, and the like, that crumbles into little white pellets when you break it - am I right..??

Isn't the foam that's used by the likes of Rod DeBrito, Simon, Tim and other mystro's a different and much denser type of material? Or is it just me that's being dense..?? Yeah, I know that's highly likely, but bear with me - haven't had too much sleep lately.

BTW, Please post the Blue Peter Badge and the plans for Tracey Island thrown together from Bog Rolls and Biscuit Tins - sounds like a winner to me.
Was it Scottish Shortbread biscuit tins..?? I've often thought of using them for diorama backdrop shots cos the pictures on the tins are so bonny.
Would work well with JJD's Culloden figurines.....

Kind Thoughts

Thanks for the tip Reb,if I attempt a Pillbox I will proceed with caution and expect a long period of trial and great error!.

Cheers

Like you said-"much much denser" than TV packaging :D

Blue Peter badge? Might have a picture somewhere of my boy that appeared in the Radio Times holding his bog roll and Crawford tin contraption with John Noakes "holding" Shep (don't know whether he was the original Shep though-come to think of it)

Would be good to see it Reb.

I understand Noakes and Shep were divorced citing irreconcilable differences!!!;)
