Summer 1940 - 'Dowding's Harvest' (1 Viewer)

Nice to see you being to play Rob and nice job not only with both the dio and photos. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with next.....The Lt.

Thanks Joe,coming from an expert as yourself that really means a lot:).

Rob

Really nice scene...it's my "must buy" (till now) for this year..by the way what's in the hands of the Home Guard?A Lee Metford?

Rob

You have inspired me to pushed ahead on my "Battle of Britain" diorama - I was thinking the same thing about a downed plane with this set.

I have bought a different 21st Century Plane and will work on mine couple of twists to it.

You have set the standard for all of us to try to catch - that is for sure ! ;)

I do love that new K&C figure release ! From what Andy has told me - we can expect even better releases in the future for FOB and Battle of Britain !

Thank you.I havn't looked closely at his rifle yet.

These new figures from K&C are really good, all are quality(the Home guard guy looks pretty old!)but i think my fave is the Policeman.I've had a life long interest in the Battle of Britain so this set is just what i've been waiting for, can't wait for the next in this series.

Rob

Thanks Ron thats very kind of you.Yes i made this on an old and slightly battered Winter Build-a-rama base.I gave it some earth coloured painting and then using products from JG Miniatures and Scenics i built it up.Thats why i mentioned Hob-e-Tac in your excellent Tree thread the other say,i'd just finished using it on this!;)

Rob

Looks simply great - need to find a good base myself.

Great Work - especially like the skid design in the grass - very clever ! :D

Thanks Ron,that spray on scenic cement is wonderful stuff,i love how it dries clear.

Rob,
Nice job with the dio, and just as entertaining, the story that goes with it. I like how it starts in the head, goes to the pysical, and winds up in a little narrative. Who's Dowding, the copper or the HG? Something also tells me this particular Kraut has purposefully surrendered. He looks like a gent.

Thanks Mike thats very kind of you.Hugh Dowding was the man in charge of the RAF Fighters during the Battle of Britain.

I appreciate that Ron and i look forward to seeing your version.I must say all you guys are excellent at producing these dio's and i was a little nervous about posting my first ever effort. The reception you've all given it is great and will spur me on to do more.

1. Is it PC to refer to the Luftwaffe pilot as a Kraut (maybe the Mods could help here)?
2. Sir Hugh Dowding's vision and stubboness contributed to the allied victory over Nazi Germany.
3. I suggest you get hold of the dvd of the film Battle of Britain.
4. the 'gent' probably bombed my dad's chip shop.

ps - who was McAarthur!?

Outstanding young man, outstanding! (in my best Tommy Lee Jones voice :D)

You've come up trumps with this Rob, really nicely put together scene. Like the soil on the wings and flattened field, nice touch. I agree with you, the random bullet holes look more 'natural' than a neat row of them. I hope you were careful when playing with the matches.

The weathering on the ME109 looks cool too. Are you using L'Oreal for that? If so what shade - looks like 'Pearlescent Moonlight Silver', but can't be sure. Perhaps Ness could enlighten us.:p

Anyway, kudos due to you, because, you're worth it mate. ;)

Look forward to seeing what mischief you come up with next.

Thank you my friend i owe it all to you.Well to be fair the Tamiya make up was all my own,but thats my prob and i'm dealing with it!;):D

Seriously though thanks Simon, its had such a nice reception and i am very pleased. The weathering with the powders was fun,you don't think i over did it?.I loved spraying the flattened hay with scenic cement, the glue comes out white and you think oh god i've ruined it all!.But then hey presto it dries clear.I think the figures are a tiny bit big but i can just get away with it.

I now want a 21st century FW190.

Thanks for the feedback Simon, much appreciated mate.

Rob

Guys,can i ask your opinions?.Did i overdo the weathering?

Rob

I echo Simon's comments, good effort Rob - some excellent creativity. Drinks on you at the show in June 12.30 prompt. We could raise a toast to Sir Hugh Dowding!!!

Rob
Excellent dio! I've been wondering about a good manufacturer of cheap war planes now that Corgi have dropped out of the 1/32nd market.

The scene looks alot like the photo from Duxford that we gave to Andy at the last but one Christmas show, maybe we could claim a little tiny bit of credit for the Big Man releasing this set.

Is that Pc 49 on the coppers collar by the way?

Regards

RAMC:p

Thanks Glyn,it really does look like it doesn't it.I hope we influenced Andy a tiny bit;).This is a great set of new figures that arrived at my door today.I finished the dio a while ago and have been waiting on the set to arrive. It is indeed C49 on his collar.

Cheers

Rob
