Summer 1940 - 'Dowding's Harvest' (2 Viewers)

I,m in full agreement ,even as a stand alone series I would have thought
the Battle of Britain in particular has a heap of potential , it is imo one of
the best ranges to bring civilians etc into toy soldier collecting .
In the great JGamble tradition hows about a group of pilots taking a short
reprieve at an english pub [shirts on of course]

Thats a very good idea Rob.Wasn't there a producer who made a set of RAF pilots at ease before a scramble?.They were in deckchairs listening to a gramophone sort of scene, can't remember who made it now though?.

Rob

I wonder whether that Luftwaffe pilot is going to find out that one can slip on a bar of soap in the back of a British police van and sustain the odd black eye.:D:D

Damian , I have just finished reading about one of your countryman
the good Adolph 'sailor malan' . Surely a canditate to apear in the fields
of battle series .

He was one of many from the Commonwealth who rallied to the call.
Interesting but he was related to the man who introduced apartheid Prime Minister DF Malan.
However Sailor was so influenced by the camaraderie of the war that he bitterly opposed the introduction of apartheid.
He formed the Springbok Legion and the Torch Commando which were ex-servicemen organizations which held rallies throughout SA to protest the introduction of what was basically Nazi type legislation.
He was a huge embarrassment for the Nationalists who were bringing in all this legislation as he was a white Afrikaner. Saillor believed that he did not risk his life fighting against racism and discrimination in Europe only to come home and watch it being implemented in front of his eyes.
He was a great human being and a great South African

They have his ten rules for combat on Wiki, very interesting.By the time he retired from frontline fighter duties in 1941 he had twenty seven kills. He also shot down two HE111's in one night,a unique feat at the time.

When you read about some of these guys , it realy shows that the right
men came to the fore at the right time .What he did after the war is as
important or more so as what he did in it .

Excellent job on your first dio Rob! Now you got me wanting to do one also like yours. :)

Rob is the field grass stuff laying down is that wood land scenics? I no the other is JG.

Kevin with all due respect I feel Rob's dio should find a place in a K and C book. It might need slightly better photography but apart from that I think it is really a classic

You are very kind Damian, thank you.

Hey Rob,

That's a simply BRILLIANT wee vignette. It tells the story simply and effectively - and there's nuthin' whatsoever wrong with your photography - its as good as anyone else's.
This has inspired me to re-visit my Flying Tigers Dio when I get home. I've been kicking certain ideas around for improving it, but they've been on my backburner for too long now. Your excellent diorama has kick-started my creative process again. Thanks a lot for posting your photo's and planting your boot where you've put it, so that I get off my behind and try to improve my stuff.

Cheers

I could well be wrong, but I think it might have been Frontline who did the set you guys are discussing.

Cheers

Harry is correct. Frontline has made a great set of RAF pilots and German flyers. They still make them in matte as far as I know althought I have some in the gloss.

And I think we might see that again from another Major Toy Maker !  Hehehehehehe ;)

I found the stuff. All available in both matte and gloss as far as I know.

Cheers
