TABOO

Tom Hardy fans might be interested in this...

the trailers look bizarre...the advertised plot is vague...

I'm gonna give it a shot...might be good...might be a huge disappointment...

I do like Tom Hardy...

premiers on FX and BBC next Tuesday...Jan 10th...

kind of reminds me of the last American Horror trailer...

this trailer...yea...I watched it and said.............."Whaaaaaaaaaaaat?"

the synopsis doesn't say much...he's presumed dead after a long stay in Africa and has returned home to find his father dead/murdered and takes vengeance...it's a mini series...6-8 episodes...I'll give it a try...again...I like Hardy (Mad Max and The Revenant)..

I am ready to rock and roll!
Sincerely yours,
The King of Weird

I'm gonna give it a try.I need something different. I've stopped watching a lot of shows as after awhile it's same ole same ole.Except for Game of Thrones and Black Sails of course.^&grin

Greetings all,

From Wikipedia the following,

Before the broadcast of Taboo, Steven Knight said the East India Company would be depicted as the historical equivalent of "the CIA, the NSA, and the biggest, baddest multinational corporation on earth". This description surprised some historians, who argued it would give an excessively negative view of the East India Company.

Truth is I like the EIC, could not have a British Raj without them, so I will watch but would hope it does not scapegoat a company built on exploration and trade, after all, they did bring tea to England, and I know, opium to China.

Still they also bump started trade in ceramics and other wares, which led to eventually generations of skilled painters in China for toy soldiers!

Speaking of which would it not be grand to have a East Indian Company toy soldier series along the style of Britans Redcoats that could depict both the uniforms of the company and the sepoys of the three presidencies, Bombay, Bengal, and Madras.

I do collect the coins from each presidency including silver rupees adorned with Queen Victoria, King George IV, and King Edward VII, history in the round as the coins are unique to each presidency and were minted in England mostly so cheers to the East India Company!

Which by the way has reformed into a high-end tea importer, gift packages, and commemorative mint coins depicting royalty of today with their symbols of their past.

Cheers

This looks good. I've got it scheduled on Vudu. I just can't handle all the commercials on FX
even with recording and skipping them.

First episode last night was very atmospheric and very well acted. Looks like the story could be interesting, as well, with lots of different elements. I will be tuning in for more. -- Al

Yeah, it's a bit of a stretch, but on the other hand, it's fiction, not a documentary, so it should be judged from that perspective.

I've seen the commercials during Fox's football coverage. It does nothing for me, whether it's the story, or the cinematography, but I don't begrudge it to anyone who enjoys the show.

Prost!

watched this morning...looks extremely promising...Tom Hardy has a penchant for playing these dark moody violent characters...and he portays them well...I predict dire straits for the East India Trading Company...and anyone else that crosses his path...looks like a man on a mission...

Watched it also . . . . Thumbs up . . . . have earmarked the series . . . .
:smile2: Mike

Still hanging in with this. I love the dark, grubby feel to this series and the story continues to evolve with all sorts of twists and turns. Great cast of characters. -- Al
