Texas Show (1 Viewer)

Great pics Michael! Thanks for posting them. Are those new palm trees you took a picture of?

Excellent pictures Mike.

Just out of interest did you spot any Trophy of Wales AZW or EGYPT and THE SUDAN sets for sale?

Cheers

Martyn:)

I had a great time at the Texas show, got to see the Confederate Prototypes from Cunnygham Collectibles, Ron Barzso's new Cannons of the Alamo and much Metal as well as plastic.

There was a nice party at Kings X and got to meet the staff, all really nice friendly people it was a pleasure. Jim Bowie and Teddy Roosevelt attended the party too.

Spent one night having a few beers with Bill Murphy and John Wayne at the Rough Riders bar. Met Mike Miller from the Treefrog Forum and had a nice chat.

I thought it was a great show and I was sorry to see it end.

OLD GUY!!!!

I resemble that remark, lol.:D:D:D

Thanks for being a good sport, Mike! And thanks for the pics and the report, lots of great stuff to see out there in the hobby right now. And isn't it the truth--even with our instant contact on the Internet, you still can't beat seeing things and meeting fellow collectors live?

Prost!

Seems like the kid in you really enjoyed his first attendance at a toy soldiers show and got a very good hunch you'll be making it a point to attend others. There was no doubt you'd leave San Antonio empty handed. Thanks Michael for sharing the event and your photos with us kiddo.....The Lt.

Thanks for the pics and report Mike. Sounds like you had fun, I hope to make it to my first TS show one day soon :)

Mike, looks like you had a great time! I remember my first show it is an amazing experience isn't it?!! :) Thanks for the photos.

Titus,

I don't know if they are "new" palm trees, but they are from Mark's table and they looked really nice.

Really really nice.

I have 12 palm trees on my castle diorama, so I didn't buy any, but you might ask Mark to post some close-ups of them, I'm sure you will appreciate the detail he put into them.

Martyn, I'm sorry, you might ask Eborris or Fubar, I can't say for sure.

I did see some Sudan era figures but I could have easily not recognized them.

Brad, you're so right.

Seeing is believing.

The internet is great, but to touch, hold and scrutinize makes all the difference in the world.

Thanks Michael for taking the time posting pictures of the show. Looks like a great time was had by all. I see Fubar and Ed went to the show. Two buddies of mine. I enjoyed your pictures. John

John aka NJJA, requested some photos from King's X if they were showing their new K&C exclusives.

Mike, first of all thanks for remembering, and being nice enough to post all the great photos! Did you happen to see any of the KingsX elclusive Club Figures? I thought perhaps they might have had the two new ones out at this show.

They are going to release another 7th Cav figure, and a Texas Ranger with scattergun.

Thanks!

The good stuff I got there was an old preist from the d-day series and the very first tiger tank from the ws series.

John,

When I arrived at the hotel I met Martin,

who runs the King's X in San Antonio,

and told him I needed photos of the new King's X exclusives for a friend.

He took me to a display case and said he just got these.

I posted on entry #54 of this thread,

what he told me were the new King's X exclusives.

Is this wrong?

I'm sorry if it is.

I know you waited a long time for these pictures.

I asked for the new King's X exclusives and those are what he showed me.

I did not see a Texas Ranger with a shotgun.

Mike I just sent you a PM on the subject! You certainly looked like you had a good time at the show!:)

Good thing I didn't get the helmet, Mike. No way it would have fit anywhere in my suitcase. Would have had to wear it on the plane. Probably not good to present yourself to an airline adorned with a steel conquistador helmet. What a sweet looking thg, tho. Gary Beadel (sp?) had it for a very reasonable price alongside a bunch of other WWII headgear, uniforms from different eras, etc. Ed Gannon, who was also at the Texas show, had his usual assortment of shakos and faux bearskins. Another guy there had a table full of German WWII militaria and, best of all, numbers of re-enactors were present, as Mike mentioned, wandering ard the showroom floor both Saturday and Sunday.

BTW, the grand old historic Menger Hotel is a fantastic venue located literally steps away from the Alamo in the heart of the most picturesque part of San Antonio adjacent to the famous Riverwalk. The Riverwalk has now been extended by abt two miles, I think. The new section is quite wonderful. Not much retail or many restaurants, but beautifully done. Each bend in the river provided a new vista of San Antonio. The new Riverwalk was creatively landscaped and was punctuated by a variety of art installations including giant luminescent fish hanging from a bridge, a grotto, mosiacs, illuminated stained glass hanging from another bridge, etc etc. It's mostly a great place to walk and isn't crowded, or at least wasn't when I saw it. Great place to take your wife. Towards the end of the new section you'll find an art gallery and a brewery (very impressive building). And the rest of the Riverwalk is tres neat as well - lots of restaurants and shops, tour boats wending their way down the river, and lots of people to look at, in contrast to the new section.

The Menger reportedly has ghosts in the old part of the hotel, which was built in the 1870s, I think. The hotel is quite beautiful, possessed of a gorgeous, large beautifully landscaped courtyard to stroll and read in and an equally attractive outdoor pool, also enclosed by a courtyard. The two rooms Nick had rented for the show were a good deal larger than the site of last year's show, La Valita. Good thg, cas the show was considerably larger, by my estimate, than it had been the first two years. It certainly looked like a lot of stuff got sold. By Sunday afternoon, at show's end, there was a noticeable decrement in merchandise. Really nice selection of dealers covering new and vintage metal and plastic. I loved Ron's new cannons of the Alamo, which you can see on his website. In my opinion, they look even better in person than they do in the website photos. Fantastic detailing and nice contrasting colors, including some brass colored barrels. Ron based the cannons on a book published by author Mark Lemon called "The Illustrated Alamo 1836, A Photographic Journey." It depicts the 1836 Alamo section by section as Lemon thgt it may have looked. Photos are of Lemon's gargantuan Alamo model in the History Shop adjacent to the Alamo and the hotel. His model Alamo looked to be 15-16' long. If you like the Alamo, you've got to get this book. Just wow. It also depicts the cannon used in the defense of the mission, hence Ronnie's new set. You can purchase the book at the Alamo or by referencing its ISBN number, which is ISBN-13: 978-193333718-0 and ISBN-10: 193333718-4.

Nick had his incredible new indians there as well as the prototypes of the next series indians, which look great. Detailing is terrific and, with the new set, you'll have lots of poses to play with. I'll leave it to him to post pics when he's ready. Would have loved to see the mounted plains indians. They sound like they're going to be pretty hot. The Custer's Last Stand set is reportedly on schedule for OTSN. My understanding is the mounted indians will not be included with the new playset, but new dismounted cav poses will. Better check Nick's website for confirmation.

Had a chance to see Beau Cunningham's new confeds. 6 different poses, 4 of which are quite unique. In addition to the usual standing firing and standing reloading poses, he had 4 kneeling poses based on photos he'd taken of re-enactors dressed in confed uniforms using their weapons. Ingenious way to discover and animate poses. I understand he suggested various positions for the re-enactors to try out. Detailing on the test shots was equal to TSSD figs and the size matched TSSD's as well. Beau is a really lovely guy and he's young. New blood. Played soldiers in the backyard with his Dad as a kid. Loved it. He's hooked.

If you like metal, there was lots of K & C, including their new Rough Riders, side by side John Jenkins, Frontline, Britains, Collector's Showcase, etc. Collectors Showcase had protos of new Polish Lancers that are to die for. I think they're coming out in August. If you also buy metal Napoleonics, I think you may want these. Holy you know what.

Just wanted to add that King's X had a great party for collectors and dealers Friday ngt. Thanks to them for their hospitality.

Also wanted to mention that Scott Oden was there with his fantastic Napoleonics (metal and plastic) and Build-a Rama had several tables with tons of product.
