The Battle at Stamford Bridge...

In 1066, the last Anglo-Saxon king, Harold Godwinson, successfully repelled a Viking invasion.
The Vikings soundly defeated, fled back to their camp over Stamford Bridge to regroup.

As the Vikings tried to gather themselves, a lone Viking Berserker, held the bridge against the Anglo-Saxon advancing army.

The saga claims he slayed over 40 Anglo-Saxons single handedly, slowing the advance of the English, until one Anglo-Saxon swam under the bridge and thrust a spear up into his groin.

Once the Berserker was dead, King Goodwinson and his army, crossed the bridge and defeated the remaining Vikings.

This battle signaled the end of the Vikings.

This is chronicled in the Anglo-Saxon history and is generally accepted as a true story.

it's written in the Anglo-Saxon history...and usually the winner of the battle writes the history of the battle...still they included this story...so there is probably a good bit of truth to it. These crazy Berserkers were even feared by their own Viking allies...fighting in a frenzy, howling loudly and gnawing on metal rims of their shields, foaming at the mouth and hopped up on hallucinogenic mushrooms and massive amounts of alcohol, they were the absolute definition of the word "berserk".

Certainly looks like he could be a one man Army Mike. That’s a wonderful diorama board designed around the JJD bridge. This a very colourful series full of brilliant sculpts. Robin.

Excellent diorama Mike and great use of the JJD Roman Bridge ! :salute::

Steve

Some of our English members might think you’re referring to Chelsea vs Spurs!

Well done Mike. I'm hoping to see more scenes from other collectors with their own creations. Your base looks big enough to display another diorama as well. Regards Greg.

Looks great Mike, but a spear in the groin has Gotta Hurt, I'd be looking forward to death after that {eek3}

not a fun trip for that one...
but a necessity and glad I caught it really early...

Great battle scenes MIke. Like the overhead shot best to get an overall perception. Chris

Mike,

As others have said you have produce a very well done diorama. I especially like the shot of two axe combatants on the bridge. You have displayed this colorful series well.

Steve

The saxons with metal helmets are nice not a fan of the others and the vikings are fab prefer however the standard plain coloured clothing, no fancy stripes and bright colours

Jason...

I now have 7 JJD Vikings...
when I get a few more...
and hopefully some Saxon casualties to throw on the bridge by the Berserker...
I will post another pic...

I would love to collect this field but we have classic collectors' space problems - and not so much mad money as in collecting days of old. Also, we are trying to make our Conquest of America field close to as cool as Mike Miller's:salute::.
Dad & I are very impressed with Mr. Miller's collection of JJD's 1066 & Aztec ranges. In both of our opinions, they are some of the coolest figures recently released.
We hope to see more pics of this beautiful range/field. May be a year before we open our Aztecs but we will post... But way to tempt us with some Dark Ages JJD!
Our 2nd fav JJD range going after Aztecs now, and we love ancients and WW1 & Pacific U.S. Warcraft!
Best Wishes to All, let's get through the end of this pandemic
Paddy for Pat Sr & me
