The Battle for Hougoumont, Waterloo, June 18th, 1815 (2 Viewers)

Another amazing display George. The building complex is quite a center piece. Especially like the overhead views to see the formations. Chris

Hi Warrior,

this is a fantastic work! I love your hougoumont diorama! WELL DONE!!!

Best regards

Timo

Timo,
Thank you for your comments, your Waterloo diorama inspired me to do one with my small scale (20mm figures) collection. Currently, Germany is the king when it comes to 20mm figures, I buy from several on line shops in Germany, they make terrific small scale figures.

Epic is the appropriate word as Mike said in describing your awesome diorama George. Thanks for posting the pic's.

Tom

Thanks Tom, glad you like it, hope you are enjoying the pictures..........

Brilliant dio so much detail to take in. Now back to your photos to absorb some more !:salute::

Thanks Horus, glad you are enjoying it, it was a lot of fun planning and setting this one up...........

George I have been studying the surrounds of the complex, the layout of walls, gardens, foilage, tracks etc is amazing. Coupled with the extensive amount of troops, you have cornered the market in the entire world for this iconic battle scene. Just terrific. Have copied the photo's for reference in the future. Robin.

Robin,
Right there with you mate, been studying Hougoumont for years, bordering on an obsession to be honest...........^&grin.........I have a bit more work to do as found out recently there were a couple of small gardens outside the complex as well, will play around with that. Also, I have been waiting on a book by Franklin about the battle of Hougoumont for months, the release keeps getting pushed back, I've heard it is the definitive work on the battle for the chateau.

Once it comes out, I will probably take another crack at this..................

Absolutely brilliant mate well done on fulfilling a forty year dream,it looks like it was worth the wait mate well done.

Thanks Wayne; 40 years for sure, have always wanted a model of the chateau and the grounds around it, finally have it.............

George,talk about a terrific diorama on a grand scale!The buildings alone are breathtaking,let alone the figures.Outstanding effort! Well done that man;

Thanks very much, I appreciate the kind words; so many terrific dioramas on this forum, I'm glad you view mine as one of them as well.........

George..thats about as good as it gets for a Hougoumont Diorama, complete with the gardens and woods WOW!
The Hougoumont model Hovals?....or another make?..........Anyway it was a real treat viewing these pics.
I salute you :salute::

Thanks for the kind words and you nailed it; it's a hovels model in 25mm. The beauty of Hovels is although it's in 25mm and my collection is 20mm, their buildings are on the small side and they'd have to be as the complex is large enough to begin with, if it was in true 25/28mm, it would be gigantic, much bigger than this model and then I would be out of luck.

They also do one in 15mm, but that is too small; another company makes a 20mm model in lazer cut MDF board, but this one looks much better..........

Thanks Chris, glad you like it and like you, my favorite shots are the overhead ones. I also like the ones of the French infantry storming the south gate, they came out well also..................

Gentlemen,
Thank you all so much for your kind words and positive feedback, I appreciate it very much, I was floored by all the comments this morning and the amount of "likes" that came in.

This is a great forum populated by numerous terrific people, many of which I've had the pleasure of meeting in person. Although the vast majority of you collect larger scale figures, I am flattered that you take the time to appreciate my efforts in small scale (20mm) figures.

So many of you have shown spectacular dioramas on this forum, I have continued to try to raise my game to present dioramas that are worthy, so thank you all again for the comments and feedback, it means a great deal to me...................

George:

A truly admirable diorama....I am jealous! Perfect....right down Private Goofball hiding behind the haystack.

Congrats on a really great dio. I could look at this all day.

Best,
Nicholas

Brilliantly done George. The grandeur of your display is just jaw dropping. In viewing your large large displays such as this one, I often think perhaps I should have collected the smaller scales.
:smile2: Mike

Nick,
Thanks for the kind comments, a lot of work, but I like the way it came out. Love how you picked up on the haystack being in the right place...........yeah, I'm anal, but I collect toy soldiers, so it comes with the territory from what I understand...........:wink2:

Thanks for the comments Mike, glad you appreciate it and yes, Napoleonics is a small scale is the way to go, at least in my opinion, ACW too if you really want to capture a battles entire scope...........

Would like to see a shot straight on, looking at the North gate and the chateau behind. I am sure there are some more angles in this vast dio still to go. Some more progress shots too when you configure any future terrain aspects would be welcomed. A real credit to you. Robin.

Absolutely beautiful diorama George!!!! as they say "the bigger the better!!" well some say :) I know you must have had a blast setting this diorama up, it's neat when you can complete a large diorama like that and it tells the story just by looking at it, again great job and thanks for posting...Sammy

Thanks for your comments Sammy; glad you can appreciate not only a diorama that is not in your scale of choice but also not in your period of choice, I appreciate it.

And yes, you are correct; a had a great time setting this one up, a lot of fun.

Fun, that's what this or any hobby should be all about......................

Thanks Warrior did not know about the Hovels size...but that would work for me!.....Still like to get one myself one day!
On another note keep your eye out for the Italian maker "Waterloo 1815" as they have some 1/72 metal sets coming out, Ney's charge
and a bunch of Scots Greys charging and capturing the 45th flag!.....these sets are very well sculpted from what I have seen.

IMO, Hovels are labeled as 25mm, but it's old school Minifigs 25mm, ie a small 25mm, they work with 20mm figures.

I am familiar with Waterloo 1815 and their metal figures and have seen some of their sets, will keep an eye out for the two you mention, they sound interesting, thanks for the tip...............

George, just found this remarkable display this AM. I don't know where to start but this is a beautiful layout. I love the buildings and the grounds. Something surreal about such a death grapple taking place on such a beautifully laid out and kept estate. There are so many things happening the photos have to be studied to be appreciated. Brilliant work and your effort really shows. And, as usual, the figures are fantastic in their massed formations and placed exactly so. It is always satisfying to complete something one has always wanted to do. Congratulations on all of it. -- Al
