Your new mounted figure is a work of art. The collection of your mounted figures are top rated and look great. You better go to Ikea for more cases.:) John

Thank you, John,
the attached picture shows the little cabinet I am using for my John Firth collection. So, I am probably fine for this year. But then again, there are a lot of figures in the plans for this year, so who knows :)
Will you come to the Indy Show end of March, 03.28.10?

Splendid work indeed. Love the painting style. Not a gloss collector but I certainly appreciate the beautiful miniatures. Top notch.

Yes Konrad: I plan on attending the Indy show. I enjoyed it last year but would like to see more rooms open. I remember when there was an active room trading with a lot more rooms open. John

It is interesting to see these figures in your cabinet and their actual size. Your splendid photos of John's masterpieces give the impression that these are 90mm or 120mm sculptures. Between John's painting and your photos they become truly monumental museum pieces.

Randy

Yes, Randy,
whith the enlarged views of the photos it is easy to forget the actual size of this figures.
The BMSS castings as well as the Squadron castings are only 1/32 (54mm) in scale. So, one of the foot figures is not taller then a Britains Bluecoat/Redcoat.
Next time, when taking photos of new arrivals, I will put some better known figures next to them for comparison.

Konrad

I think what your photos show is how well John's painting stands up to enlargement which is a testament to their quality.

Yes, enlargement is a key word when it comes to toy soldier photos (guys I am speaking of toy soldier photos...:D:D:D:D), the best or the worst always get exaggerated. In John's case it's of course the best.

Hi Konrad,

Now starting to get withdrawal symptoms, so any idea when you are expecting another parcel from John with the latest additions to your British Empire collection. Very intrigued to see the 2 piece mounted set that you alluded to in your last post.

Kind Regards
Martin

:D:D:D Oh, tell me about it, Martin,
it will be probably towards the end of January when the next package arrives and no, it will not have two mounted figures this time, but the one mounted that is coming is very special.
It's a good thing that being patient is not a problem for us, isn't it?
Konrad

Hi Konrad,

As we approach the end of January any parcels, sorry news as to what is next in this excellent series. Also really liked your cabinet in which you are displaying this latest collection of figures. Hard to tell from the photo , but is it set into the wall with a glass door or is it fixed to the wall? Can't wait to see the next instalment, especially the "special" mounted figure that you alluded to in your last post.

Kind Regards

Sorry, Martin,
we do have a delay this time, but check back on this thread by the end of next week. I should have some updates posted then.
My cabinets are fixed on the wall, but they look like being inserted due to the fact that the door frame is larger then the cabinet body.
They are from Ikea and sold as CD/DVD storage cabinets, but make excellent shelfs for small groups of figures.
Konrad

Konrad,

I thought I'd spied the cabinets before, being IKEA. Thats the brand I use too for my collection, but I use BILLY Bookcases with glass shelves, double glass doors and lighting.

The best thing about them is that are 'fun' to assemble, just like a construction kit only bigger :)

I may get one of the cabiniets you have show, just for some special figures.

Looking froward to the next installment...

John

Konrad

Will be be seeing both the January and February collections then?

We are all waiting with great anticipation!

Randy

No, not two deliveries at the same time, sorry.
Just a delay on the mounted figure.
Here is a sneak preview of one of the foot figures from the coming lot.
An officer of the Bahawalpur State Force Infantry (Sadiq Battalion) 1896.

I have a small wall of the Billy cases too John and agree about them being fun to assemble. Just wanted to get more and more. I do need to get some of the glass shelves and then work on some lighting, but for now they make great combination storage for figures and books.

And Konrad, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention I've enjoyed looking through your growing collection of excellent looking commissions by Mr. Firth. That gloss finish of his is really easy on the eyes.

I have just discovered this thread. Those are wonderful figures and wonderful painting.
Thank you for sharing them with us.

Remnants of an Army

"The final stand took place at Gandamak on the morning of 13th January 1842 in the snow. 20 officers and 45 European soldiers, mostly of the 44th Foot, found themselves surrounded on a hillock. The Afghans attempted to persuade the soldiers that they intended them no harm. Then the sniping began followed a series of rushes. Captain Souter wrapped the colours of the regiment around his body and was dragged into captivity with two or three soldiers. The remainder were shot or cut down. Only 6 mounted officers escaped. Of these 5 were murdered along the road.
On the afternoon of 13th January 1842 the British troops in Jellalabad, watching for their comrades of the Kabul garrison, saw a single figure ride up to the town walls. It was Dr Brydon, the sole survivor of the column.

Dr Brydon arrives at Jellalabad, the last survivor of an
army of 16,500 soldiers and civilians."

Remnants of an Army

Here I would like to introduce the latest addition to my British Empire Collection. A BMSS casting of Dr. Brydon, painted by John Firth.
Since seeing it for the first time on the BMSS website a little more then a year ago, I was sure that I "had to have" this figure.
Although it was not available anymore, after several months of determined pursuit I managed to get my hands on a casting and today it arrived, done in John's "Superios Gloss" style.
Hope you like it as much as I do.
Several pictures will follow to show different views and closeups of this figure.
Konrad
