Re: Remnants of an Army

Here I would like to introduce the latest addition to my British Empire Collection. A BMSS casting of Dr. Brydon, painted by John Firth.

Since seeing it for the first time on the BMSS website a little more then a year ago, I was sure that I "had to have" this figure.

Although it was not available anymore, after several months of determined pursuit I managed to get my hands on a casting and today it arrived, done in John's "Superios Gloss" style.

Hope you like it as much as I do. Several pictures will follow to show different views and closeups of this figure.

Hi Konrad,

This is an excellent miniature of Dr. Brydon painted in superior gloss.

The BMSS casting is indeed hard to find.

I am sorry I missed it; you posted this over a month ago.

Thanks very much for the very nice photos.

Best Wishes, Raymond.:)

Hi Raymond,
did not look at this thread for a while, so I am kind of late here.
Very glad to see that you like the Dr. Brydon figure.
Since it was not so easy to obtain it made the very prime piece of my "British Empire" collection up to now but has to share the top spot in the future with another fine and rare piece that I just received today.
Pictures coming up in the next posting.
All the best!
Konrad

Received a new addition to my British Empire collection today.
Another "hard-to-find" piece from the British Model Soldier Society since they discontinued the distribution of the kit.
It is MC20 a tent-pegging Officer of the 30th Lancers (Gordon's Horse) in 1903.
An extremely well done casting by Alan Caton and brought alive by John's excellent painting.
Here are some pictures.
Hope you like them.

Hi Konrad,

Your new figure is outstanding! John's painting is in a class all its own. I especially like the shading John has provided on the tent post. John's talents are matchless. I am so glad you chose to commission some work from him and then share it with the rest of us. I am sure you have lost some buttons on your shirt from your chest heaving with pride of ownership!

Warmest personal regars,

Pat :)

Konrad,

Very beautiful piece, the paint job is excellent and unique very different for a glossy figure.

Regards

Alan Caton has some beautiful sculpted pieces, combined with the fabulous talents of John (who IMO is one of the very best painters I have seen especially in the connoisseur gloss) and you have sure fire winner. Another wonderful piece for your treasure chest Konrda, thanks for sharing it with us.

Agree with the others Konrad. Another really fine addition. Looking forward to seeing what John paints next. :)

Thanks guys,
your comments are much appreciated :)

That is simply awesome, maybe the best yet of the ones you've shown us. Is the BMSS still around?

Konrad

You have one outstanding Empire under way. The tent-pegging is a gem!

Hi Konrad,

Meant to comment before now on this recent excellent addition to your Brtish Empire Collection, but have been busy with the day job since Easter. Yet another triumph from the paint brush of Mr Firth. His attention to detail is remarkable even down to ensuring the horse's hooves with white legs are given a lighter treatment than those legs that are brown all the way down. It really does make the piece very realistic and I for one can't wait for the next mounted figure in this series to be revealed. The finish that John manages to achieve on the completed figure gives them an almost poreclain like quality. I am very envious not only of your growing collection, but that you are also building a very stylish and unique collection of Alan Caton sculpted equestrian subjects. Long may it continue.
Best Wishes and Kind Regards

Thanks acw cavalry,

just as much as I love and apreciate the painting skills from John, so do I admire the sculpting skills from Alan.
Now when you put both of them together the results are gems, every single piece :)

Konrad

Another fine figure for your collection Konrad. I enjoyed the pictures. John

hi Konrad,

Hope that you are well. As it is now just over a month since your last pacakage/addition to your British Empire collection commissioned from Beating Retreat was showcased I just wondering if you are expecting any new figures in the near future from John. I have lost track of this particular thread of late, especially since it was moved from the Painting Section and put under the "General Glossy Discussion" area.

Kind kind Regards as ever

John's skill is just so superior. Konrad, you are a fortunate man to have these works of art. Just such great work. Congratulations. -- Al
