I Love the Britains Line of NEW Glossy and Matte. They have a great look to them and our well balanced and sculpted. Not to Bulky and seem to be the most anatomically correct. But the Clamshell packs have to go. It is really upsetting that they would package their product so it gets damaged by the inferior packing. The old Maroon boxes with foam were perfect. To many of my new figures have minor damage from the figure rubbing paint off on the clamshell. Am I right or is it only me? Does anyone else have this problem? Britains CHANGE YOUR PACKAGING OR YOU WILL LOSE CUSTOMERS.

The clamshell is the best toy soldier packaging ever conceived. I have never had any damaged figures with them. And I buy a lot of Britain's toy soldiers. I have even had dealers ship me figures with the clamshell stuffed into padded envelopes with no problems.

I had my will changed, and when it's my time to visit that great toy soldier shop in the sky I am to be buried in a clamshell package.

Have received many, including 6 more just last week, of the ACW and AZW figs in clamshell packs and not one has been damaged. Sorry to hear you've had a bad experience. Chris

My friend, I too have had this happen on MANY occasions in the past before I switched my focus to collecting ACW and WWII from First Legion within the past year. I would receive figures just as you stated with paint being rubbed off due to the packaging. I even went as far as contacting Britains and they decided to add a plastic sheet behind the figures between the black felt. I am not sure if they have continued to keep the plastic sheet or not because I have not ordered a product by them in over a year or two. So no my friend, you are not the only one who has had this issue and believe me I feel your pain. Nothing worse than receiving a new toy solider to only discover it being damaged.

Paul,
If you get buried in a Clamshell pack I hope you will be perfectly still or you will rub some blisters.

Have had heaps of Clamshell packaging never any damage well protected and this style of pack easier to throw away, as more solid boxes etc I feel guilty about discarding as they look useful for future use. Robin.

I totally agree gentlemen . . . .

I too have been lucky. I collect the ACW line and have had alot of clamshell packs with no problems so far. Sorry to hear of Your problems and how You feel. Good luck in the future.

I don't know if they are cost effective but I have never had a damage issue.

As a dealer I can say this is first time I have heard of this issue. Simply never been raised before.

I find the hanging packs very useful in terms of saving space as can hang several on the one hook and easy to see the figures.

So my opinion is no change required.

Not doubting sone of the posters comments but not an issue from my own experience.

Not bought any Britain's in these type of wrapping but, had plenty of LAH troops in this and the associated plastic wrapping and everyone had some form of paint damage because of the wire being twisted too tight around the figure. I also have seen two DAK howitzers damaged in the same way from the same company. These were binned very soon afterwards so, it was obvious they knew damage was happening.

Horrible way to wrap metal figures
Mitch

The dealer I bought some of the damaged figures said he knew about the problem and has seen it before. He told me he approached Britains about the problem and was told that they changed the packaging because museums and Historical sites wanted an easier way to display the figures other than the Maroon boxes. That makes sense but do not sacrafice the product because it will bite you in the end.

I am a mechanical designer by trade and if you think hard plastic is a better way to package delicate figures than soft foam you need a new career direction. It is a case of the Chinese trying to cut corners to save money with blow molded plastic. I AGREE THAT IT IS A HORRIBLE WAY TO PACKAGE PAINTED TROOPS. And if only 10 to 20 percent of the troops have damaged it is unacceptable. It has to be ZERO PERCENT. Britains the CLAMSHELL PACKS HAVE TO GO.

I have purchased DelPrado figures in this plastic packaging where the figure is secured by wire and almost all of them have paint chips as a result of the tight wire. On the other hand, I have purchased several of the Britains figures, which do not come with wires, being held in place by shaped plastic, and have never had a figure come with any damage in this form of packaging. It certainly seems secure and safe enough. Even so, when putting the figure back in the package I always wrap it in tissue paper. No problems. -- Al

Never had any issues or damage with clamshells. All of my purchases are mailed as I do not have a local store.

I have never had a problem with clamshell packs either, and I have bought quite a few.
If I did I would find a new Dealer. One that doesn't make excuses. I did have a problem
with boxed figures from another manufacturer where the horses tails were broken off in
about half the figurers. I never bought from that Dealer again. He said take it up with
the manufacturer. I only buy through the mail.

I personally like the clamshell packaging. The plastic packaging goes into the recycle bin,
and I don't have to waste space hoarding boxes. Well, I don't do that either. Trash boxes also.

Never had an issue with clamshell packaging. For single figures I prefer them over boxes.

I find it hard to believe that So few of you have experienced the issuse that I have had and I have seen it and had damage from not one dealer but 3 different dealers. Please inspect your figures closely. I bet that you sill see small shiny spots where the metal has shone through. I also have figures that you can see paint on the plastic and the black felt spray on liner.

And for those of you that throw away your boxes and packaging, Well I question your thought process and response because all toy soldiers are worth more with their original packaging. Where will you put them when you have to move, sell,or change of scenes.

I guess King & Country will be next to go Clamshell Packs because they are so superior to boxes with diecut foam.

I have HUNDREDS from ACW , Napoleonic and ZULU. I Keep them around, someday I'll put them all back to inventory for the family. As far as paint loss is concerned, I'm less worried about the clam shell than LACK OF PRIMER.
If you can rub a little paint off an elbow, just be sitting in a clam shell it's the factory product being painted with NO primer.
I've seen it on countless ACW, Forage caps, elbows , even on some single ZULU figs ETC. Always just a tiny speck of bare metal.
Bother me? A little. I'm a painter so I fix them and usually give them a blast of my own sealer.
Keep me from buying them? No, but I HATE paying retail and getting one where you can see it before even opened.
