The Eagle (1 Viewer)

The review this AM in the Washington Post was less than glowing. Gave it 1 1/2 stars out of 4. Says the plot is full of holes, bad dialog, over the top action, and the reviewer was really bothered by bad accents (American, faux English, and combos thereof) used by the actors. I'm guessing the reviewer wanted something else to do.:rolleyes2: -- Al

That did it for me ...some cup cake from the Washington compost hated it .. Its gotta be GREAT !!! Maybe next time She'll get to review something with show tunes .. I have plans to go next weekend :smile2:

Saw this today with my son and his friends. Everyone gave it a thumbs up. Lots of fighting but no gore or blood ala Braveheart. See if you can spot the actor that played the horse trader from True Grit.

Previews included The Conspirator which portrays the Lincoln assasingation and trial of Mary Suratt. This one looks to be outstanding, at least from the preview. Just finished reading Manhunt. About the manhunt for John Wilkes Booth and thought this was a movie about that at first.

I'm going to see it when I can. Funny that another newspaper reviewer thought the film was kind of "gai." I'm hoping to a representation of the Roman army doing it's thing rather than a few troops going native as in Centurion.

Then you will be sorely disappointed.^&cool

Saw this weekend, and not too bad, average movie good debut, but nothing spectacular...I do hope that Ridley Scott will be back in those times and make a nice Roman movie, Caesar’s Siege of Alesia for example.

Hi Rod ,
I saw it Sunday , it was worth the early Matinee price . IMO it started out GREAT with the Celt attack on the fort and then when the Celtic Chariots appeared I was like ...this is gonna be GREAT :smile2: . Then it fizzled out .... oh well the old lady liked the rest of the flick and even commented afterwords that she didn't think she could have handled it if the whole movie was like the first half hour . Maybe someday well get a GREAT Roman Movie but this wasn't it IMO .. I would vote for Mr Scotts version of the siege of Alesia :wink2: .. Hope all is well my friend regards Gebhard

My wife and I took the weekend off to ourselves and went to see this Saturday night. Gotta admit, went into it not expecting much but was very very pleasantly surprised with what I saw. An excellent movie and I think it was head and shoulders over Centurion. My second favorite Roman movie behind Gladiator of course.

I will certainly try it, maybe only on disk however. Thanks for the recommendation Chris but I certainly hope it is MUCH better than Centurion. That was pretty dismal to me; I almost didn't finish it and I will try just about anything once.

I honestly didn't think Centurion was that bad.Any movie I've seen about Dark Age Britain always paints it as a bleak and dismal place.

I thoroughly enjoyed Centurian, watching it twice during the rental period. I liked the acting and the action. Michael

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Centurion, just The Eagle was a lot better. If you think Centurion painted a bleak picture, wait till you see this!!

I think both movies started very well, but got a little bored after.

I would be interested in everyone's thoughts on the Seal People ?? Regards Gebhard

Okay, here's a question for the folks that have seen the movie. How did the kid show up just before the final battle? ^&confuse

Got to see this on Demand today. Worth the $5 rental but I might have been disappointed if I had paid to see it in the theaters. Good enough film that started out like gangbusters but then slowed down. All during the chase all I could see was "Apocalypto" and "Naked Prey", but since I liked those two flicks, this film was ok by me. Some great countryside and nice, grey atmosphere. Would have liked to have seen the film carry on in the spirit of the first half hour, though. -- Al
