This "Elefant" is my first purchased AFV from K&C and I think it's a very nice piece. Just wonder why it's not a very popular item. The wheel & tracks & camo look very good to me. It's one of my favourite tank.

It is a very nice piece. If I remember correctly, there was some discussion about the authenticity of the camo job. I am not an expert, it looks good to me, but maybe the camo is more Normandy style, where there were no Elephants. Also, since the Elephant was an Eastern front/Italian front weapon, some collectors may have felt it was not for them. I wish I had gotten one.:redface2: -- Al

I'm guessing size and use. It's a very big model and hard to use in a small display area. But it is a very nice and historically important model

The camo would work on the eastern front.

Can you not find one on Classifeds or ebay? I wonder how much they sell for these days?

I think the camo would also work equally well on the Italian front. I have seen them go for anything upto £260GBP

I haven't tried, Terry. Got my hands full with Tigers and WW1 aircraft right now.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

It's good to know that the camo is for eastern front. Thanks for the info guys.

Great tank, due to shortages, mine will be going to Normandy, even if it looks a duck out of water. Cheers, Robin.

I have mine with the Bulge series ......but some say that might be wrong.....still a nice looking AFV !!!!

Very well made piece and very unique. I seem to recall that it saw some action in Italy but could be wrong.

Think they first saw action at Kurst
I think they were on the northern shoulder. The Wed. March 2 show of Greatest Tank Battles, at 10pm on the Military Channel, is about the northern shoulder action at Kursk. -- Al

Al is correct. All Ferdinands were consolidated into schwere Panzerjäger-Regiment 656 which was a part of the northern pincer. Thiis means these vehicles didn't fight with the SS units which were a part of the southern pincer.

Panzerjäger-Regiment 656 included 3 Abteilung:
  • I./656 (schwere Panzerjäger-Abteilung 653) - 48 Ferdinards
  • II./656 (schwere Panzerjäger-Abteilung 654) - 45 Ferdinands
  • III./656 (Sturmpanzer-Abteilung 216) - 45 Sturmpanzer IVs

This unit also included two Funklenk companies (Panzer Kompanie (Funklenk) 313 and 314) which were subordinated to the Ferdinand Abteilung.

The model portrayed by King & Country is the Elefant which is what the Ferdinands were renamed after receiving numerous modifications after Kursk. One of the most obvious mods is the addition of an MG in the hull front to deal with infantry. Elefants served on the eastern front and in Italy.

the Elefant only had one ineffecive machine gun which made it vulnerable to infantry intack like in the battle of Kursk
