Was on this evening at 8:00pm, about 20 minutes.

Jaw dropping is all I can say; some really impressive behind the scenes shots of the sets. One in particular of Pelelui was a mock up of the beach in what appeared to be 54mm scale using BMC amtracs and Shermans.

Episodes will include Guadalcanal, THREE on pelelui, Iwo Jima and Okinawa among others.

March 14th can't come fast enough............

Same mate cant wait, but it will be later for us but worth the wait.

Am watching this now. All I have to say is "WOW!". This is a first rate production with what appears to be outstanding action. It all looks correct and real. This series will do for the Pacific War what BoB and SPR did for the ETO. I believe the resulting surge of interest is going to catch the TS manufacturers short, without product to feed the frenzy. Someone should get on the ball. -- lancer

I hear ya Lancer. I would bet good money that is exactly what's going to happen. If I had to guess, I would say CS will be the first to get product out on the market that reflects the interest in HBO's Pacific series. But there will most certainly be a lag or dry spell as we all await some TS manufacturer to exploit the forthcoming saliency of this theater of war. I'm really looking forward to the output on all fronts, celluloid and metal alike :).

Oh man, this is gona be GOOOOOOOD.

The preview of the loaded LVT's in the well-deck of the LSD are amazing. In the dark with the stark light beaming in from the stern. Wet dripping bulkheads, water flooding in from everywhere at the deck level, diesel noise, diesel exhaust, the ship moving with the Pacific, people sea sick and the smells.

I was on the USS Portland LSD-37 for a couple of years back in the early 70's and they completely captured the feeling of being inside it. When the well-deck flooded, the engineroom, where I was assigned, was under water on four of the six sides. Marines and their gear was everywhere.

I can not wait to see the story of the "old marines".

I hate to rate wars as which was the worst as they are all bad. But, the Pacific was something far more brutal and horrible than Europe IMO.

I am very proud to have known a few "old marines" from WWII and I will miss their friendship as long as I live.

Saw an 8 minute preview on HBO about Leckie and a US Marine assault on an airfield. This mini-series is going to be a knockout. This clip indicates that the action is every bit as realistic, intense, and bloody as anything from SPR or anything else, for that matter. The anticipation builds yet further. -- lancer

Agreed. I am very impressed and looking forward to this series.
Very moved by the 20 minute MAKING OF THE PACIFIC as well as the brief clips on the 3 main characters.Basilone's story always shakes me up.

Looking forward to the UK screening sometime in the Spring. Sky TV are now broadcasting a very impressive trailer.

Comcast had a free 10 minute preview from this series in their On Demand section. The marines were assaulting a Japanese controlled airfield on Pelilu, I believe.

My goodness. It was hard to watch. Brutally realistic combat footage. Arms and legs literally flying in the air. Our boys were getting slaughtered. A real sense of the inherent chaos and confusion and desperation of battle. No perspective from the Japanese side, as would be the case for the marines in the actual war. A distant, hidden, anonymous enemy, firing behind cover with vicious effectiveness.

If the vinette I saw is any indication this will be a great series. Though perhaps not one for the squeamish or those who prefer Hollywood style war action.

Just in case anyone has forgotten, tonight at 9pm (EST) is zero hour on HBO. Semper Fi! -- lancer

Lancer...I didn't have HBO but did have Dish...so I called Dish and they gave me 3 month's of HBO and Showtime for free...and it took no more than 10 minutes total from phone call to actually having the chanels added...pretty cool! Now I'm ready and can't wait!

I really liked the first episode. Was worth the wait as it is of very high quality. Thought the scenes of the Alligator Creek battle and aftermath were very realistic. Can't wait for the next nine shows. -- Al

I have been waiting all week for this . . . it looks amazing in the previews.

I,ve been waiting 3 years for this, ever since it was disclosed it would be done.
Really enjoyed the first episode, watched it again, an hour later, and enjoyed it more.
I believe we have a winner here!
I didn,t know the Marines were armed with springfield rifles on Guadalcanal. When did they get M-1,s?
Wouldn,t it be fantastic if Spielberg & Hanks would do a different war story every couple of years. They have set the standard.
