I just thought i would take a minute to pop in and address some questions as well as give a brief update of what's been going on recently here at First Legion.
First off, I understand that you guys are all looking for the latest release info and believe me, we want to give it to you just as much as you want to receive it. But bear with us a few more weeks and then we'll have you all drowning in new releases! We'll serve no wine before its time unfortunately.
It's very nice to hear that many of you are so excited about the prospects of what is coming next, but keep in mind we just shipped to customers: 19 AWI British, 9 French Cuirassiers, a new Napoleonic Personality, a 150mm Gun set with crew, a German Hauptman, our rendition of the MG34 Team on tripod, and 7 more foot Crusaders. All totalled that's some 44 new figures and a big gun that just shipped at the end of January!
Yeah, yeah, yeah, but "what have we done for you lately"... :rolleyes2::redface2:
2011 is going to be just a fantastic year for us and our collectors where we will put out some great new products for our existing ranges as well as a new range or two. It's just a little bit early to discuss what these ranges will be, but I'm really getting the feeling that more than a few of you would like to see some Romans given the First Legion treatment! So I guess we better get to work on that! Ever since you guys started talking about this, I've been scouring the internet to see what various companies make Romans, how they've done them, etc... to get an idea of how we'd approach such a marquee (and surprisingly not very well covered?!) period of history. There really is some wonderful stuff out there, but nothing like the type of complete range that we would do should we endeavor to open that particular can of worms. Personally speaking, if we were to do Romans, I'd want them to look something like this....(trivia question - which little known company makes this figure? Gold star to whoever knows.).
Alas, maybe someday we'll do Romans, but right now our focus remains squarely on Napoleonics, ACW, Samurai, WWII, AWI, and, of course, the Crusades. We have at least one release coming up for ALL of our ranges over the next 6 months. For Napoleonics, Crusades, and WWII in particular, a lot more than one release in the next 6 months. Further, at least one forum member is finally going to get what he's asked for maybe once or twice, despite not having a birthday or Christmas or other special occasion to use as an excuse to justify the capital outlay! Of course, a collector getting the exact release they want is a special occasion in and of itself!
As for what the next pre-orders will be, well, it's no secret that we'll be covering the first of the Mamluks for our Crusades range and the fighting elements of the 92nd Gordon Highlanders. In addition to this will be some DAK items including the first of the DAK infantry. All of these will pre-order in just a few weeks, so stay tuned for a newsletter or two with full details in the not too distant future when everything is ready to go. We may also have an announcement in that newsletter as well as provide a sneek peek of what's coming next.
Finally, I like the idea of doing a fifer for our AWI range, so I've noted that down as something that we should definitely add, if not to the British 5th Foot, then to a future release. So many figures to make, so little time!
I think that covers it. I just wanted to drop in and say hello and let you know that our silence doesn't mean we're not hard at work and I'm quietly confident that our 2011 release schedule is going to raise a few eyebrows at least, and, at best, blow you all away.
Best,
Matt
