In a surprise to nobody the 2032 Olympic games will be in Brisbane. Could not get a bookie to take bets on Brisbane not getting them as it was a one horse race:wink2:.

Seems Tokyo, despite the Covid hurdles, has just started. Hopefully Covid doesnt ruin the event so that it is cancelled.

Might get a few more Aussie TV viewers for the games as about half the population in lockdown.

Once an a rabid sports fan, now no more...like everywhere else, sports had gone "WOKE", Political Correctness gone amok, "COVID news porn" reporting, and shaming.

Count me out!

Only thing left is college football and basketball and the future of them looks dubious due to "WOKE", corruption, and greed at the border.

Too bad, it used to be so entertaining and a pleasant diversion from realty.

Mark and Carlos,
In that case I suspect you won't be too upset to hear Sweden beat the US women's soccer team 3-0.
Now out of the event after being expected to win gold.

Non event...time to have lunch...Oh wait, were the teams inclusive enough?

Yeah, it's that bad here in the States.

To plow forward with the event and have no fans in the stands is the height of stupidity; what is the point?

How are the Japanese going to recoup the cost of staging it without ticket revenues?

Just a dumb decision.

How are they out after one loss? Is it single elimination?

Wasn't one of the players moaning about equal pay for women soccer players; yeah, might want to walk that back.........................

They are just in the group stage. Elimination games come later assuming they make it out of the group stage. But they really got trounced by Sweden who always battle the US hard, and the veneer of invincibility has been dashed. Today's result may indicate dissension in the ranks. Woke-ism doesn't tolerate opposing viewpoints. Any potential non-woke athletes are silenced w/ discord manifesting itself in poor overall team performance.

It’s not single elimination. Don’t listen to someone who knows nothing about football. The group stage is made of three matches. The top two in each group of four teams, plus the two third best place teams, move on to the quarters (no round of 16). The next US match is Saturday.

The US has put itself in a hole but their other opponents, Australia and NZ, are ranked 9th and 22nd, respectively, so moving to the quarters is quite doable.

Most unfortunate not elimination. Even Daily Mail current article says
The Rio defeat marked the USA team's earliest exit in Olympic history, after previously reaching the final of every edition of the Games since 1996, when the women's event was introduced.

Then 4 paras later says playing NZ next !.

Another source late last night my time also said eliminated.

Very happy to see my city of Brisbane has gained the nod for 2032. I'm half thinking I will become a volunteer and help out in some way.

It's sad that the Tokyo events will not have spectators. It's a shame for the athletes too. The main business though is TV - there'll be a lot of locked-down people happy to watch it. I once met an American who was in the navy and happened to be in Rome during the 1960 Olympics, he went to almost everything because there were hardly any spectators at all back then.

I'm happy too, that means The Games will on the other side of our country and we have a strong state border to keep out any 'invaders' :) :)

The free jacket, hat etc would be cool^&cool

Driver / guide to the ladies Swedish soccer team or a synchronised ladies swimming team might be a good gig^&grin

I think it's a great idea that the Olympics are proceeding and spectators are banned. The construction of the sporting and accommodation facilities etc would have cost Japan many Millions, they now have the chance to recoup some of the expense via Television distribution etc. Who would want millions of spectators mingling and spreading Covid19 etc in Japan and when they return home. It will cost enough in money etc to isolate the athletes upon their return, imagine the huge cost for the millions of spectators. You can bet there will be Covid19 outbreaks amongst the athletes while in Japan.

HELLO ALL,

Just wanted to say I LOVE the US Womens soccer team.

Thats all I wanted to say...

All,

I also wanted to say that the US Mens National Team is not in the Olympics because they couldn't even qualify and the USWNT is still in court trying to earn equal pay...

...cause like they are like World Cup and Olympic champions and all. Y'know, as in the best in the World and have the trophies and Gold Medals to prove it.

Imagine your the 1/35 Scale Diorama Champion of the World with all the adulation and Medals to prove it and the cardboard box diorama kid gets paid more prize money than you...just cause.

Not cool man,

Zero interest with the politics and woke nonsense. The time difference also makes it almost pointless to watch.

John,
The issue of equal pay in sport is interesting to say the least. I look at it from the point of view of people paying to attend matches and the revenue generated by the the male or female versions of the same sport. I dont follow soccer in the USA but if the Womens Soccer generate more revenue than the males then seems reasonable they get paid higher. Dont know enough about it but agree your female team more successful compared to male. That might be explained by the fact the top male athletes can earn far more money in other US sports. There are womens sports teams here that will never come close to the revenue of their male counterparts. I think our female cricketers recently got a big increase but seems taking from the pool of income generated by male teams. An extreme example would be the NBA v Womens NBA in USA. The males get huge payments that would be more than a couple of female teams alone. The one where they got equal payment that does not support the argument is tennis. Fine to pay them equal prize money but since they only play best of three they get paid a much higher rate per hour than the males.

Incidentally I have attended many model competitions in past 20 years. Male and female compete on equal terms but the entrants are overwhelmingly male. Prizes are the same whoever wins. Modelling relates to cars, trucks, military vehicles, aircraft and ships which guys seem to have more interest in from a young age.
