I certainly can't fault the results so what, whatever the principle. I also certainly can see the passion behind the quality of your work. Now, if I can just change your mind just a wee bit about the exploits giving rise to such colorful names as the "Diehards", the "Cherry Pickers", the "Holly Boys", the "Surprisers", the "Roast and Boil", the "Emperor's Chambermaids", the "Young Eyes", the "Old Eyes", the "Resurrectionists", the "Fighting 5th", the "Bloody 11th", the "Silver Tailed Dandies", the "Firms", the "Rories, the "Old Stubborns", the "Ragged Brigade", the "Honey Suckers", the "Steelbacks", the "Bloodsuckers", "Halkett's Green Germans", the "Death or Glory Men" and, of course, the "Aigle Catchers".;):D

I can only assume that these references are a oh so not very subtle hints to produce more cavalry? How about polish cavalry charging German tanks in 1939? Mmmm...maybe that's the place to start WWII - could kill two birds with one stone! ;)

Personally, I'd simply love to get the chance to buy Polish Cavalry charging a German Tank.
It was announced that a WWI range was going to follow the Great War in chronological order - and that didn't happen - resulting in disappointment for a considerable amount of collectors (including myself) who were looking forward to an ANZAC/Brit/Turkish/German Dardanelles or WWI ME release.
However, if 1st Legion are considering releasing WWII, whether in chronological order or not, then I'm confident that they'll make good on their promises.

As I have stated on other threads I am a real avid fan of your Napoleonic range even though I do not collect the era. Stunning museum figures from the tops of their hats to their grass bases and at a very reasonable price for such outstanding quality. But being an action based dio builder I would need at least a thousand pieces to accurately depict a good Waterloo dio. The hopelessness of the arithmetic is self evident-the expenditure of a complete new era could come close to the pre-costs of a self inflicted divorce-been there-done it-don't want to do it again ;)

It's now not beyond the realms of man that one could place a fair bet that you have decided to go WWII as your next series and as you state it's more of a ME decision on what you would want to collect that you use as the prime mover. And that makes a lot of sense to me and I am also positive after closely viewing your existing body of work that the proposed figures will be an absolute knock-out!

However, and this is not in any way a criticism I am just genuinely curious as on a previous thread you made a comment that you nearly went ACW but decided that as a number of manufacturers were already covering the era you would be a late starter and did not want to find yourself behind the 8 ball.

Does not WWII fit that criteria even more than the ACW?

First off, thanks for the kind words on the figures once again. To answer your question, which is indeed a fair one, I'll offer the following:

When we were considering doing ACW we were doing so because we wanted to do another range and viewed ACW as a checklist item of one of the "big three" of collecting (WWII, NAPS, and ACW - right or wrong, that was our perception). We then used the information that I posted (it's already being done, being behind the eight ball, etc...) as the way to talk ourselves out of doing something that we weren't passionate about doing (at that moment) in any case. Don't get me wrong, I have a HUGE interest in ACW and have had many miniature collections (28mm) covering the conflict in extreme detail, but at that moment, we were going to do it for the wrong reasons and we talked ourselves out of it.

I don't know about you Reb, as you seem extremely devoted to ACW, but many of us find that our interests run cyclically in that we love many broad periods of history, but find ourselves head over heels for one period at a time. This usually lasts for awhile, then we'll read some book or see some movie that sparks our interest and subsquently turns our attention to something else. So, as I said, it's not that we won't ever do ACW, but at the time we were discussing it, it just didn't feel right. Then we looked at the market and saw what was out there and said "besides, everyone else is doing it too and they've already started, so let's do something else."

I think that if we do WWII that would just be further evidence that we do what we love as you've rightly pointed out it's already a crowded space with many companies doing it and with one company clearly in the lead who makes the finest figures in the world. So why would we even consider it? Well, because we love it and we think we might be able to come up with some stuff that other folks might love too. Only time will tell...

Does this make sense? It's about as direct and honest an answer as you're ever going to get from someone, so I do hope so.

Regard,

Matt

PS - Of course, this could all be disinformation and we're really set to release our ACW range. You just never know... :D

As you know i'm already swapping my other figures for FL's and i suspect for those who prefer quality to quantity i wont be the only one, whatever comes out you know its going to be better than whats out there at the moment and for that reason i would be surprised if it wasn't successful even if its a subject already well covered.Lets be honest theres no shortage of nap figures outside fls but none compare in quality.
As UKREB said a waterloo dio would be great but in this scale i dont think the whole battle would be possible for the vast majority unless you happen to have a spare living room and would be extremely expensive no matter who's figures you were buying. Personally i wont want all the nap figures, will be going for specific ones for sensible sized dios.
I'd rather have a few dios with high quality figures which brings them to life than hundreds of lesser quality ones on rather uninteresting (imo) glass shelves.
ACW is also a subject of mine and have no figures of but if Matt does bring them out i think i'd be one across the pond on the list,i've not liked other manufacturers efforts enough thus far.

Perhaps they were too subtle:eek: although there certainly is some cavalry included there.;):D I think you will find that they are nicknames of units, all acquired for various reasons in one area of the Napoleonic adventures; do I need to say more?

No, believe me, your message(s), regardless of how cryptic, have been heard loud and clear! Unfortunately, the earth only rotates once in a 24 hour period, because other than cosmic limitations such as that, you'd have everything you want (and more!).

I think it depends on what you want to depict. Since I am one of your greatest fans and admirers, I frankly think you could do even Waterloo great justice with far fewer figures and save the Divorce costs mate.:D Of course you wouldn't be showing the full battle in one scene but the way I have seen you discretely and masterfully reuse the same figures for multiple scenes and adjust your camera focus to convey a larger that actual perspective, I am confident you could get by with a few hundred or so.;) At least that is what you have inspired me to try and I was counting on your help.:D

Great to hear Matt, I was afraid I would have to add Wellington's tribute to the "fighting c**ks".:D On the rotation issue, perhaps you lads could shuttle a few time daily accross the date line; it used to work for me.;):D Nothing like living a day over again for the ole productivity.
