Just seen the movie 'The Revenant' today and it's fantastic! I won't say too much other than go see it.
It's beautifully filmed, a great storyline without too much dialogue, certainly brutal and not for the faint hearted and superbly acted.
Enjoy.

It is a good movie but not quite as good as I thought.I'll say more after more people see it.

Even though I'd seen the trailer a number of weeks ago, I really didn't have any expectations as such, unlike the new Star-Wars flick.

It's summer down here, so seeing all that snow and ice was rather refreshing in a strange sort of way, plus I have a strong interest in the era it was set in.

Admittedly, it's not that sort of movie you'd take grandma too or anyone who doesn't like a splash of blood here and there.

It may sound odd, but I enjoyed the isolation of the setting and all the animals.....the scene with the 'big hairy' thing is particularly gripping to see and like nothing I've seen before.

It's a long movie, but my butt never got sore and I saw no one leave.

Cheers!

Good review Todd. I have been thinking about seeing this one but wasn't quite sure but it sounds like a decent flick from your review.

Cheers Tom, yeah it's a bit grim in places and basicly a story of 'survival' but think you'd like it.

Grim is the word I would use to describe the movie.

However there is an upside as it is also educational:wink2:. The next time I go pelt hunting I am definitely going to take Tabasco sauce as just never know what's going to be on the menu {sm2}

For those who have not seen it I am not sure I can recommend it for wives, girlfriends and daughters. When DiCaprio has an encounter with a tree my wife said "he is always getting into s**t, it is depressing". There was one scene where she asked has he finished yet as she could not look. I think it is an understatement to say she did not enjoy it at all and I might even have to take her to watch Sisters to aid her recovery.

Certainly different but a hard watch.

Best actor, movie and director at Golden Globes.

Could this be Leo's year ? If he wins it will be a record for least words spoken in a movie by best actor.

saw it today...
great watch...
a little long...
2 1/2 hours...
a tale of survival and revenge...
hardcore...gory...gritty...
hard men living hard lives in a hard climate...
DiCaprio didn't have much dialog...
a lot of grunting...
but I think his...
and the director's commitment to realism...
are what garnered their abundance of GG awards...
I recommend it and will anxiously await it's arrival to HBO so I can watch it again...

Leo has made some really good shows. My favorite is The Departed, but I also really enjoy Gangs of New York, Catch Me if You Can, Blood Diamond, and The Aviator. There are others but those are my favorites. -- Al

What, no Wolf of Wall Street {sm4}

I think Blood Diamond came out same time as Departed and both were very good.

Gents,

I am going tonight to see it at The Alamo Drafthouse in San Antonio. Yup, busted back and all. I have made a promise to Brett that I will not report back any "movie spoilers" or now coined "Brett Spoilers" after the movie. Please check out the Alamo Drafthouse on-line as it is a Tarantino/Rodriguez favorite and a Texas mainstay that originated in San Antonio. It is a full bar and resturaunt movie experience that is second to none.

I have it on "good authority" that they intend on going worldwide with the franchise, but not to Australia for reasons unknown. I intend on lobbying for my Australian brethren to get a chance to get the Alamo Drafthouse there as Australia could use a little Texas in them.^&grin

Huh...I'll be ****ed a town named Texas in Australia. Wow man that is interesting. Have you been there to check it out? Do they have fajitas, BBQ and Dos Equis? Chicken Fried Steak, mashed potatoes and Texas Toast? Guacamole, chips and salsa? If they don't I may have to make an international visit with my BBQ pit.

Y'all eat guacamole over there...mate?
