The Walking Dead, season 3 and Comicbook Men........ (3 Viewers)

I was also glad that there were no zombie pre-schoolers in hiding. This is a fun show. By it's very nature, it has plenty of opportunity to go over the top and become a parody of itself, but so far the writers have avoided this and stayed true to the 'realistic' tone that has been set. No fake heroics where the cavalry shows up just in time and lots of regular cast members killed off. It is a main strength of the show that anyone can be killed off with little or no warning. If the writing stays away from the obvious and predictable, this show can run for a while. -- Al

Agree completely. One thing about the character deaths though. A main reason to watch a show is the characters. At some point, if they keep dying off, it becomes less interesting, because one no longer has a vested interest in their fate. Kind of like a pro team that trades a lot without much homegrown talent. Loyalty to a team or show is based on caring about what happens to the people. I mean zombie kills are cool but are not enough by themselves to keep me coming back.

I can't see them ever killing off Rick, but I suppose the rest are somewhat disposable. Another aspect is that the potential for a characters death probably makes the actors much less likely to dispute their pay levels. Charlie sheen would have been eaten after the first week :) Probably good for show profitability.

I agree with everything here in this post; losing three main characters in one episode is a tough pill to swallow as a fan of the show. Someone told me they heard through the grapevine Carol is dead, thus the three graves, plus Daryl put a flower on her grave in this episode, the same type of flower he had given her in a previous episode; this makes T-Dog dying trying to save her even more harsh.

If you keep killing off main characters and don't develop new characters for viewers to get behind, the show will degenerate into zombie kills for the sake of killing and the show is toast.

I have a feeling the governors "paradise" is going to somehow get attacked and destroyed by walkers, with him and one or two characters somehow linking up with Ricks group..............

Good catch on the flower detail, George. I watched it but didn't attach any significance to the gesture, having forgotten the earlier exchange between Daryl and Carol. I think that the show can do fine as long as the writers keep a couple of the long time regulars up and running, in my opinion, Daryl and Rick, who are easily the most interesting characters, although the governor has big potential, if he can stay alive. -- Al

Daryl is my favorite character, I think Rick has officially lost his marbles. I saw a trailer online and there was a scene where Daryl finds knife that Carol carried, the same one she used to carve up the walker practicing the operation she'd have to perform when the baby was ready to come out, so who knows, maybe she is still out there somewhere, we'll find out soon enough............

As many zombies as Rick and the gang have offed, youd think the population had decreased enough were it was relatively easy to avoid them. Like Merle and Carols daughter, if they dont show the actual death, she is probably either still alive or "living" as a zombie. I was never a big Carol fan, so either way is fine with me. But again, too many character deaths make me less interested. Also, Id like to see some progress on understanding the disease itself, however that might come about.

I know its a dark themed show, but the occassional happy/merry occassion would be welcomed, IMO.

I betting Carol is still alive. I don't have any inside info so it's not a spoiler but how about she is stuck somewhere in the prison and tried the phone which caused it to ring? That may be a longshot but there's no reason to waste a character being killed off screen. So my guess is that she will be back.

Hey, give the writers some credit. You just witnessed the miracle of birth. If that doesn't qualify as a happy occasion, nothing will.{sm3}:rolleyes2: -- Al

Carol is probably still walking around the prison one way or another. One of the inmates made a comment about digging graves with no bodies to put in them.

My bad, Al. :) If that baby makes it past its first month birthday Ill be shocked.

I like the idea that its Carol on the phone, reaching out via an internal line. I bet thats right. Perhaps its what gets Rick out of his funk, the need for him to go into hero mode again, saving a damsel in distress.

re, Rick, I think Id be quite upset too if now, after Loris death, the only eligible gal around for miles was much younger and already taken. I mean Im thinking even in the land of the undead the need of the living to engage in some physicality with the opposite sex hasnt completely vanished. Rick is feeling Shane's pain? :)

Maybe he hooks up with Michonne eventually? Cant know for sure, other than every good hero needs a love interest.

Some interesting stuff, as usual, in the episode last night. George was right about Rick. All but lost it. Kind of thought the hostage situation was an obvious plot twist but we shall see if the writers can work their way out with some creative rather than predictable plot lines. Really want to see where this governor character is going as he is proving to be the most interesting character of late. -- Al

The show is starting to get really, really interesting, this whole hostage thing and michonne finding the prison and linking up with Ricks group is pointing towards a raid on the governors Stepford Village.

And Merle is such a POS, Rick was right to handcuff him to the roof of the building.

Poor Rick, he needs to run himself down to the local fix it shop and get that loose screw in his head tightened.

It may just be me, but Andrea is looking worse and worse and Maggie is getting hotter by each episode. Poor Rick has gone sideways. Carol is apparently unable to push a dead zombie away to open a door. One of those middling episodes to set up the big showdown.

A mediocre episode inmy opinion, too. I hope the show doesn't degenerate into Holywood cliche - such as having Rick and the Governor battle it out Mano y Mano.

Carol may have been frozen with fear and felt safer behind the door than out roaming the hallways. Can't say I would blame her.

Micchone is a peculiar individual. Can't really figure her out. I mean she abhors the Governors joint but for some reason thinks Ricks group is trustworthy. Despite their supposed abandonment of Andrea, which presumably she knows about.

I don't know for sure but I don't like the odds of the upcoming raid of the Govenor's compound by Rick's 4 man commando team. Killing zombies is one thing but being outnumbered 10-1 by armed people is another. Even so, I will be shocked if Rick doesn't pull it off.:wink2: -- Al

I've stopped asking myself how they clean their clothes and shower and how the women keep the same hairdos and clothing over almost a year. I expect that there is free clothing around to be looted. Rick and Daryl keep the same designer stubble week after week. Hershel at least shows that time has passed with his pony tail.

The two torture scenes were VERY effective.

Funny that a dead dog in a house startled them but zombies all around didn't bother their noses.

It's funny you mention that Scott as 'I think the same thing, everyday issues like showering, shaving, changing clothes, etc, etc, seem to be glossed over in this series.

I don't get the whole guy under the cover in the house thing; he said he's going to call the cops? So he slept through the whole Zombies are everywhere and there are no police out there? That was weird.

Just my opinion, but the whole hygiene thing is kind of a moot point. EVERYTHING is gross beyond comprehension here. Dead bodies rotting everywhere, zombies walking around stinking up everything, the collapse of civilization, does anyone really think a little body oder or lack of clean underwear is going to be a major concern? I doubt these people would notice anything but a clean person at this point. Hey, I'll bet a zombie roast would smell good to Rick and gang. -- Al

Was the guy in the house just a nut job? But Perhaps smart enough that he was using the odor of the dead dog to conceal himself from the zombies? I think they are attracted to fresh meat, which is why they don't consume one another.

I agree the show does gloss over a lot of daily activities. I would think with Woodberry with its large population would have a hard time feeding itself, for example. What do they eat - leftover canned goods and Twinkies? Or do they farm? What about fresh water? Other necessities? Surely the essentials would be of constant concern. Same Questions for the Grimes gang.

I would think they could do some great episodes just dealing with such "minor" issues. The survivalist shows featuring Bear Grills et al demonstrate how in the wild the smallest things can present major challenges - and we find them interesting. Compound normal day to day issues with roving hordes of the undead and you don't really need big story archs with actual antagonists like the governor. Mother nature provides plenty of drama all on its own.

The whole Woodberry thing is odd to me, all they show of the "town" is main street and that one wall made out of old tires and trailers.

Aren't there other streets or access points to the town, makes zero sense to me.

It's filmed in a little place called Senoia Ga, bout 30 miles or so southwest of Atlanta. Been trying to get down there and check the filming out. Senoia was dead, just about literally, till it found its new gig being a Hollywood film site. Tax credits, cheap, non unionized labor and business friendly populace have brought that place back from nearly being a ghost town.

As the town is a real place, they may be limited by budget etc in really giving us a complete view. It does seem strange how except for the guards most peoplearejust kind of milling around. There is work to be done, people, civilization is rebooting!
