Things that annoy me (4 Viewers)

Teachers around the country going on strike just as schools are opening. They have been out for the entire summer and much of last year with COVID issues but now are going on strike at a critical time when kids are trying to get back to normal. Unreal.

From a negotiating point of view, it makes perfect sense. Would school boards or parents care if they’re on strike in the summer? Nope. However, if they go on strike now, they put pressure on the school boards to settle because the longer the strike goes on, the more pressure will be brought by parents.

Yes, I understand the timing. After the disruption from COVID to the educational system, however, you think they might have given it a pass this year. Take the high road in the midst of a national crisis. Of all the many institutions that failed us during the pandemic, the teachers were among the most disappointing. They basically became a quasi-political group who advocated to stay at home and collect their pay with no concern for their students. Teachers have a tough job but so do a lot of people who go to work. States and localities are flush with the COVID money. Here in PA the politicians can't even figure out how to spend it all. A first. You would think these parties could have worked this out months ago to avoid the disruption.

NFL preseason games. As if there are not enough regular seasons games to risk player injury, they put on this charade. The Jets may already have lost their QB. The Rams don't play any starters in the preseason.
dallas just lost starting tackle

Yes a lot of the teachers leadership have shown their true colors.

baaaaaaaaaad news...
Tyron Smith is a 9 time Pro Bowler...
he has the highest run block rate (78.6) over the past 4 seasons...

seems like he misses more games than he plays...
Tyler Smith was drafted first round this year to eventually replace him...
good luck with that...

Dak better wear his scrambling shoes...
he is gonna get crushed on the left side this year...

The greed of the owners combined with the stupidity of the coaches. No starter should be playing in the preseason. The season is already way too long. The Rams played an incredible 21 games last season.

everything you said about playing starters in pre-season...I totally agree with...can't take a chance with a starter in a meaningless game...

but in this case...it happened while making a block in a practice game...

this injury is a huge blow to their O-line...both running and pass blocking...he's not expected back til December...

Like baseball pre-season is to hone your skills and get back into playing shape. I understand the dangers of playing a game that doesn't count but throwing them out there with no snaps is dangerous too. Trouble is these guys are so big and strong it doesn't take much to put them out when hit.

Getting rid of the pre-season disappeared when gambling was legalized.

A huge amount is bet on those games which leads to more gambling during the regular season which leads to more viewership, which leads to more commercial revenue.

The water issues out west are really becoming a problem. Our politicians have handled it about as well as they did the pandemic. It's amazing how much money can be spent on other things and a critical problem like running out of water in California has been left unaddressed. The media focuses on the problem but rarely discusses any possible solutions. When you look at any extinct societies in history you see many of the same factors leading to the collapse. Environmental change, pandemic, political incompetence, war, civil unrest. Plenty of similarities.

Combat,

My post is not as deep as yours, but uh...I get really, really, REALLY annoyed when you go to a new "Japanese" restaurant and order shrimp tempura and what arrives is shrimp in corn meal breading. You ask for a Japanese beer and the only thing they got is "Lucky Beer" from el China and the waiter swears its Japanese beer. And then the bill arrives and its over a $100 bucks (all you can eat special). Oh and the calamari tasted like it was from SAMS Club...freezer section.

**** annoying...

In my experience, Japanese food is either great or awful. No in between. I'm guessing Texas is not a hot bed of Japanese cuisine. Here in PA it is almost impossible to find good Mexican food. So count your blessings. I once took my wife to a Mexican restaurant in Moscow if you can believe that. Not a great experience that she still holds over my head. She is from Arizona and apparently the Russians don't measure up to her Mexican food standards.

People who put their feet up on the bulkhead when they are seated in row 1 of an aircraft.

Act like you have flown first-class before, put your seat back and simply use the extra legroom that is provided.

I spent about 24 hours on planes and at airports yesterday. It is brutal. Lines, tired people, rude staff. My least favorite experience. That doesn't even get into the delays and cancellations.

Overly simplistic and relentless news narratives with no critical analysis or even any actual news to report. Filing the airwaves with impressions - real or imagined. No offense to the Brits but the endless coverage of the Queen's funeral has been ridiculous. I was stuck watching the Euro news this week and it was 24/7 coverage with basically no other news to report. The Queen was apparently a saint. What exactly she did other than wave to the masses for many decades is left unspoken. The soap opera like obsession with the royals who are about as uninteresting a group of individuals as can be imagined is downright strange. Even the liberal news networks that might be expected to be somewhat skeptical are fawning. If King Charles paused momentarily to shake hands with some poor peasant who had been standing in line for hours, they raved on and on about what a fantastic humanitarian act it was to take a moment to greet the ordinary people. Perhaps a Nobel Prize worthy act. Unreal. The interviews with people standing in line were hilarious as people struggled to explain why they were there. Lots of vague generalities. The Queen seemed like a very nice person but her appeal was that she was the Queen.

Hurricane hysteria. Every storm is an apocalypse. Reporters will stand breathlessly on the beach warning of doom. Of course a hurricane is dangerous, but they have occurred throughout history. The fear mongering has become a form of entertainment. The politicians all get a few minutes on TV telling people to leave. Reporters will scour the city afterward for any damage. A fallen tree takes center stage on national TV.
