Things that annoy me (2 Viewers)

Are you really criticizing Trump for eliminating taxes on most tips and social security recipients when they were all previously taxed? That is strange logic. Do you oppose excluding the wealthier recipients and want them to pay no such taxes? Under the Dems, these would have been taxable for everyone. Instead Trump has eliminated the tax unless the recipient exceeds the cap. It's the classic no win situation. Trump helps working class folks by not taxing their social security and tips but excludes only some higher wage earners and he is somehow leaving workers behind and benefitted the wealthy? Of course tax cuts have greater benefits for those who actually pay taxes. How could there be tax reductions for the nearly half of Americans who already pay no taxes and live off government handouts paid for by those who do pay taxes?
Doug...

I didn't even make a comment on the story...I just reported a factual story...why do you get so riled up over what a tipped employee says in the article?

I'm not working...I don't get tips...it doesn't help me...and she says the system is flawed...read the article at least before you ask me 5 questions...

if the highest-income households are reaping the biggest gains, with about 60% of the tax savings from Trump’s law projected to go to the top fifth of households earning more than $217,000 doesn't bother you personally...I can live with that...

you're always keep referring to what the Democrats did in the past...blaming Biden's policies for everything...blaming the Democrats for all our problems...

you can dwell on that if it makes you feel better...your prerogative...

but me...I'm not worried about the past as much as you are...I'm worried about the future...today...tomorrow...next month...the next 3 years and further...

you have taken the role of the Republican watch dog on here...disputing anything that that shows Trump's flaws...I feel like your passion for Trump might overwhelm your judgement...

I don't have a Trump nerve to rub raw, not sure how many times I have to mention I'm an independent who leans right on things like immigration/the border, WOKE/DEI policies and energy policy but left on things like guns and foreign policy, you posted a story, I replied to the story from that bastion of truth and integrity, NBC news.
eeeeeeeeh...if you say so...

I feel like your passion for Trump might overwhelm your judgement...
And peoples hatred towards Trump might overwhelm their judgement.

It's truly shocking how much people hate the guy, some of the posts from people on Facebook are truly unhinged, must suck to be them and carry that hatred around every day; am I a water carrying fan/ballwasher of his?

No, I am not, his tariffs and this war have hurt my business, my savings, my investments, my disposable income, my costs on everyday goods.........................again, not a fan of some of the things he does, but I don't hate him to the point where NO MATTER WHAT HE DOES I CAN'T STAND HIM.

In three years, it will all be over, then it will be time to find someone else to hate with the fire of 10,000 suns.

many Americans have reasons to dislike him...

health insurance...ICE...tariffs...reduced funding for American social programs...gas prices...grocery prices...the over all fall of our economy...over spending on defense...SNAP...rising energy costs...inflation rising...his vengeance for prosecuting anyone he doesn't like...his Cabinet of unqualified people...just to name a few

Americans are struggling to put food on their table...I want a president that wants to help the American people...

and you can...but I would never go to Facebook for facts...never...no social media at all for me...what a waste of my time...

so I can't comment on whether pro Trump posters are just as bad as the unhinged posters you refer to...

but I bet you money and will give you good odds that they are...

His polls are now in the 33% range...he's very unlikeable in America excluding the staunch MAGA diehards...

I don't really want to have this discussion...he legally won the election...he's the man for now...as you seem to defend him and mock Democrats...good for you...

I mock far left socialist/communist/WOKE/virtue signaling/DEI Democrats, just like you mock far right MAGA Republicans, both are bad.

If you think I defend him at every turn, you're not reading what I write subjectively, you're cherry picking things I say to prove your point.

Trump promised people he'd drill baby drill, bring gas prices down, bring the cost of groceries down and help struggling Americans have a better life.

None of that has happened; gas prices are high, cost of groceries and everyday consumer goods are up thanks to this war and his misguided, misdirected, moronic tariffs, tariffs that most MAGA supporters believe China and other countries pay, not importers and more directly, consumers. 33% sounds high to me, the chickens will come home to roost come November, look for the house and the senate to flip and the impeachment process to begin once again.

Believe what you want to believe Mike, not sure what else to tell you, going round and round and round and round and round with you is beyond pointless.

agreed...as I said in my above post...I'm growing tired of this discussion...it's futile...you admire him...I don't...lets put it on the shelf...

Typically if someone posts an article on a thread titled "Things that annoy me" that can be construed as suggesting some agreement with the content of the article. Otherwise why post it here or anywhere? If you didn't want anyone to address the issue, then don't post it. The argument contained in the article is that because Trump did not exempt every single person who get tips and social security from being taxed, that somehow means he is sticking it to the workers. That is absurd. Previously - under both republicans and democrats - ALL such people would have been taxed. Now the vast majority are not taxed. Instead, and ironically, the tax break is capped to keep wealthier individuals from getting the tax break. Which undermines the entire tax break for the rich narrative.

Doug…Please don’t give me rules on what I can post…okay?

Not sure what you are talking about. You posted an article and I commented on it. You objected to me doing so for some reason. There was no rule. You can post anything you want. And I can respond. Simple as that. Can we agree that those who receive tax breaks on their tips and social security are better off - and not worse off - than they were before? And these are lower wage earners and not the rich because the tax break is capped at a certain level of income?

Of course wealthy people benefit the most from tax breaks because they actually pay taxes. Those taxes are used to fund various social programs that benefit the nearly half of Americans who pay no taxes at all. Those Americans have already benefitted by getting free schools, medical care, social security and on and on paid for by the taxes of the wealthier citizens. It's a trade off. The wealthy benefit from tax breaks and poor benefit from handouts funded by the taxes on middle class and wealthy. I can live with that.

The hype and interest about the NFL draft is becoming absurd. It was a genius move by the NFL to market this but there is something almost creepy about the level of fan interest. You can see the entire results the next day rather than suffering through hours of talking pundits and strutting athletes "thanking God" etc.

well...you kind of did Doug...

I asked you..."Please don’t give me rules on what I can post…okay?"

you said..."Otherwise why post it here or anywhere? If you didn't want anyone to address the issue, then don't post it."

sounds like a rule to me...

and please don't feel you have to address anything I post either...

just asking for a little freedom of speech...I didn't write the article...it's not fiction...it's factual...not off a social media site...

let me post what I want to post with no rules...and I will extend the same courtesy to you...

I commented in response to your post. You expressed some irritation that I had directed my response to you who had posted the link. And I said if you take issue with someone reponding to your posts, you shouldn't post it. Nothing at all about a rule that you can't post anything. That's very silly. Again, post whatever you want. I can't make it any clearer than that. But others have every right to respond to your posts. Not sure why you want to go down that rabbit hole instead of discussing the substance of what the article was about.

Ooooooh man...going down the rabbit hole...:ROFLMAO:...talking to you is getting harder and harder...

Ooooooh man...going down the rabbit hole...:ROFLMAO:...talking to you is getting harder and harder...
Not sure what that means. Several times I've tried to engage you on the substance of the article you posted and you keep deflecting. Are low-income wage earners who get tax exemptions under Trump for tips and social security better off or not? It's a simple question.

America is struggling to put food on the table. Do you really mean that. Are people starving to death or eating dog food because that is all they can afford. Please if that in fact is happening show me. The overall fall of our economy. Again you reap what you sow. If you worked hard all your life and spent your earnings in the right way and saved you should be on ok shape. Social programs? Unless you have a true disability you shouldn't get a government dime. I'm sorry I am not a bleeding heart.

Since I am a practicing CPA, I feel the need to comment on the tax breaks/law:

A. No tax on overtime. For most of the folks working overtime are below all of the limitations, so they are receiving a direct benefit. It is mathematically beneficial to those earning overtime.

B. No tax on tips - You are able to exclude $25K in tips from your income. I have a buddy who is a seasoned bartender/manager, he saved $5K on his income taxes - real money.

C. State tax deduction on itemized deductions rising to 40K. This benefits individuals who live in States with higher state taxes, it allows them to itemize again, which is a huge benefit, especially in a state like Maryland. Maryland if you are unable to itemize federally, they do not allow you to itemize at the State level, thus causing a double whack. With the rules reversed to near previous levels which were the law of the land for 50 plus years prior to 2016, more American taxpayers benefit immensely. It is mostly a benefit to the working middle class (married or single filers). This is a good group to put more money in their pockets as they tend to spend it, thus helping the economy. If you live in a State with NO income tax like Texas, Florida or Tennessee, consider yourself blessed, you have very good State Politicians who are rewarding you everyday for living where you do!

One thing that is really tiresome to me is the rich people tax break argument. Let's understand one fact - the so called "Rich" pay an overwhelming majority of all taxes collected by the USA and States. That is just a mathematical fact, the more money you make, the more you pay. MOST and nearly all tax breaks like Tuition, Student Loan Interest, Charity, etc are phased out for the "Rich", so they do not get a huge windfall from most provisions of the tax code. Where they save and saved money is when we reduced the top federal rate from 39% to 36%. And I have to somewhat agree, since when should you lose 40% of your income to tax? If you live in Maryland, tack on another 10% State tax and all of a sudden, you are down to 50% of what you make, is that fair to anyone? I don't think so.

My opinion on taxation is this - we should move to a flat tax - 15% on gross earnings, end of story. Your success should not be progressively penalized, it is flat out idiotic. If you make $100,000 - $15K in tax. $1,000,000 - $150K in tax, $15,000 - $2250 in tax. Pretty simple and fair. Unfortunately, it will never happen b/c regardless of political party in charge, they all want your money and as much as they can get from you.

They all waste money and as much as they can get from you!

Ok, while on the soapbox, let's address another myth. The economy is in the toilet. No its not. It is actually doing rather well when you analyze the last decade starting 2015. Average wages are much higher, spending is much higher, lending power is fairly well backed by assets. The economy is actually doing rather well. Just go to any restaurant on any given night and the majority are full. Go on any highway at most points in a day and there is plenty of traffic gas prices be darned. Go on ebay or amazon or nordstrom or Macys or any shopping website you may choose and sales are up across the board. As much as I like to complain about high gas, or high food, I am still paying it and so is the majority of America. Unemployment is relatively no different.

We all are victim to the constant drone of the Press and Politicians on a daily basis saying - Economy sucks, Economy is great, equation of the Stock Market to the Economy. The stock market is controlled by the movements of large funds, money managers, hedge funds, investment banks - ie the market makers - they WIN literally everyday and they trade everyday. It is a rigged game folks, you , me and all the individual investors ride the coattails of the market and we hope to eke out better than inflation returns (which if you have been in the market the last 20 years you are doing).

So, here is my advice - stop watching National TV news - it is all bent to an agenda, message and party. Political Parties are BIG business, look at the amount of money that flows through them on an annual basis.

Oh - and wars are economic booms in a lot of ways. SO while the Strait closes and causes a temporary stock decline, guess who is buying? Market makers.

I have watched and observed a lot of posts here the last few days and honestly, most are as bad as National News! You guys are watching too much of it.

Mike

What you posted is not correct. The top fifth of households pay the majority of the tax burden overall. I already posted this, but the supposed Trump Tax breaks in 2016 actually raised the top fifth in some cases due to the loss of itemized deductions (which was partially restored in 2024 and it should have been, it was the law for 50 plus years).

There is way too much shiite information out there regarding the Rich and taxes. Just think about it logically - we have a progressive tax code - ie the more you make, the higher your bracket AND the tax breaks be it Tuition, Interest, Taxes, Itemized Deductions, Tips, etc are ALL PHASED OUT for the true "Rich".

The other BS argument is that Corporations get all the breaks. NO they don't. That income is taxed in many different ways and if you raise it any higher, all it does is pass on the burden to the consumer or it pressures jobs. There is a breaking point there too.

The biggest losers in our Tax Code proportionately is truly the Married Filing Jointly Couple where both work and they have 1 or 2 kids. They lose more as they become successful in a disproportionate manner. That problem has been in our tax code for the last 50 years and it is still there. The 2016 Trump Tax Cuts actually hurt the MFJ couple with kid where both have jobs and they own a house. They lost itemized deductions. I can tell you as my wife and I experienced that living in Maryland with a high schooler at the time. Our overall tax liability to Fed and State increased by 17%. So, tell me, where was our savings. The latest tax bill in 2024 simply restored our liability to 2015 level (Percentage wise), so WE received Zero Tax breaks.
