Things that I really like (1 Viewer)

Well said.
Three yrs after losing the last one we still expect to see them coming to the door when we come home.
I just couldn't say no to these two..........rose and violet, violet is always into something, which I find comical. They are two peas in a pod, they are always together, didn't want to break them up, so we took them both.

I've been house hunting recently and it's a nonstarter to walk into a house that smells like cigarette smoke or pets. I had cats for years but you should clean up after them to keep your house from smelling.

At one time we had 5 cats; one by one, they all went to the rainbow bridge to wait for me when I cross over, losing each one was more painful that the last one, I too told my girlfriend I can't do this anymore...............for 2.5 years I stuck to it...........then two tuxedo kittens came our way, we adopted them...........they are outstanding, they light up my life with their non stop comedy..............just think of it as you're a good pet owner and there are thousands of pets out there that need a good home.

They give love unconditionally, pets are the bomb.
Jesus Christ...the "rainbow bridge"...I had never seen or even heard about that painting...I didn't understand what it was at first...when they put Boo...
(my schnauzer) to sleep...after we had 17 great years together...they had a picture of the "rainbow bridge" hanging on the wall...Boo was worn out...couldn't even lift his head...they gave him the shot...they left the room...I put my face within inches of his...close enough that I could feel his short ragged breath on my face...and we just stared into each others eyes...until he finally closed his for the last time...I looked at that picture and my eyes got really wet...lol...not lying...I was ready to bawl...the picture...all those pets waiting...sitting patiently in front of the stairs to heaven...anxiously waiting to reunite with their owners...the cats and dogs in the clouds...that really broke me up...even now when I see that picture I get a lump in my throat...

As an animal lover, the first time I heard of the rainbow bridge/read the poem that goes along with it, the waterworks floodgate opened.

My girlfriend decided to buy five plots at a pet cemetery near us, when we lost our first cat, she was out of town, so I had to go to the facility to sign off on the burial.

I walk in, was greeted by an employee and led to a room with chairs..................and at the front a small table and there's our cat in a small container/coffin.................holy crap.

Waterworks.

He gave me a few minutes to say my goodbyes, then he takes me up to the plot...........and to get there, you had to cross over a rainbow bridge.

Waterworks.

It was a beautiful cemetery, the guy tells me "If you have a pet buried here, you can be as well."

Waterworks.

At the top of the hill is a hole with the small box inside, the guy reads a prayer.

Waterworks.

I grabbed a handful of dirt and threw it on the small box and walked away.

I was gutted.

I/we had to do that four more times and you know what, I'm glad we gave them a nice burial vs them being tossed into an incinerator.

I was there at the vet when each of them took their last breath, I was the last thing each of them saw before they passed over.

It hurt like Hell each time, but that's the price we pay for loving our pets, a price I'm glad to pay vs all the love and joy they give you back while asking nothing in return, unconditional love.

If you're not an animal lover and don't get any of this, I actually feel sorry for you.

Our eldest cat and my wife’s favorite developed oral cancer last year (we knew something wasn’t right because his breath was terrible). We took him to a specialist and every few weeks had chemo treatment. You’d probably keel over when I told you what we spent. Unfortunately, he didn’t get any better and by the time they told us radiation might help, it was too late. My wife didn’t want him to suffer any longer and we decided to end his life. I stayed with him until the end, petting him until the Dr. gave him the shot that ended his life. He fought the good fight but just couldn’t beat it.

I think of Dylan Thomas:

“Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”

Female cats are the bomb. Complete idiots, however usually cuddly and just want to be around you....never a problem and loads of entertainment.

We inherited a male Tuxedo from our neighbour a few years ago, when she went into a rest-home. He was feral, mad as a cut snake, wanted to play 24/7, swing from the curtains, knock stuff over and hunted anything with feathers.

Fast forward a few years and he's turned into a complete slop now, extremely affectionate, love's gardening or watching me make TS stuff in the garage.

Hate losing them, but wouldn't live without them.:love::D

Chris:

We just lost our beloved dog Uno about a week ago. We had him for almost 16 years.

Your post makes me wonder if our home will ever be the same without him?

Some pain is not linear, it is circular and never ends.

Sorry to hear this Jason. And no, home will never be the same. But the pain eases over time if not completely. Best wishes, Chris

Female cats are the bomb for sure, very affectionate, as are Tuxedos as a breed, Our two kittens seek out attention/affection all the time, they jockey for position at night in the bed as to who can get closer to us, it's comical.

I do a lot of work in my basement; whenever I come upstairs, the smaller of the two Violet is always camped out on the floor waiting for me, Rose sleeps next to on the couch at night and in the morning follows me around like a dog.

Have only had them for about 6 months and I'm already extremely attached to them, I'm glad we decided to bring them into our lives.

Chris:

Thank you for the kind words and encouragement.

We are trying to stay strong for our other dog, James Franco.

He is having a very difficult time adjusting and he clearly misses his “brother”.

Jason,
My sincere condolences. Dad & I love our dogs and we are still sad about our last friend who passed 5 years ago. We try not to be sad but it doesn't always work - especially if you see a picture or one of his toys. But it does get better. We focus on our new doggie and hope to see our old pals in Heaven. They will do anything you do... They are missed and remembered.
James Franco needs and deserves your love. His name is so long he'd never come to another owner😉.
All the Best

Condolences Jason. Pets are as much part of our life as our other human children.

Brad & Paddy:

Thank you for the replies.

This whole thing has been more painful than I could have ever imagined.

However, I am amazed at the support that I have received from my friends including those on this forum as exemplified by both of you.

The BuffaLOLo Sabres lost to Montreal in OT of game 7 last night 3-2.............Montreal was up 2-0, the Sabres tied it, appeared to go ahead 3-2 but a quick whistle blew the play dead before the puck trickled into the net.........it was the right call, once the ref loses sight of the puck, he blows the whistle, but that didn't stop their coach from whining about it after the game, the years have not been kind to that guy, he's 66/ a year older than me...........wow, ok then, I'd have thought mid 70's, maybe it was all the pucks he took to the face when he played..

The Sabres outshot Montreal in 5-5 hockey 90-54 in the series; and lost.

Yet another BuffaLOLo team not only loses, but loses in nutpunch fashion, Montreal moves on to play the Whalers while the Nordiques play the team with the crappiest uniforms in Hockey, the Golden Knights..........not only are they knights, they are golden ones.

Their first line is known as the three restless knights; apparently their days ain't so hot either.

I went back and forth on the Montreal - Buffalo series as to who I wanted to win. So whoever won was good with me. One thing about the playoffs I can't get every game as I don't have ESPN. The upcoming Colorado - Las Vegas I think every game is on ESPN while the other semi final is on TNT which I get. Vegas has been a great team from the very beginning going to the finals their very first year. But Colorado should win the cup. I like Vegas's uniforms. We went to Vegas a few years back to watch the Blues play there. Vegas puts on quite a show which is well worth seeing. My second hobby is collecting game worn hockey jerseys. I have over 200 Blues game worn and I'm in the process of trying to get a home & away from all the other teams. But it must have been worn by a player who played for the Blues.

Thought about you the other day as I saw the most "infamous worn" St. Louis Blues jersey ever - the Ozzy Osbourne Mugshot featuring the jersey!

A friend of mine on the PD became personal friends with Ozzie. He even went to the UK to visit. I have a picture of him with Ozzie and Sharon in a living room in the UK. He said he met him after a concert in St louis where he was working secondary. After the show he wondered back stage and began talking to different people and someone ask where a good place to go. So he took them to a couple of night spots and they became friends. Unfortunately my only claim to fame was Mother Theresa came to St louis and I was assigned to be with her that day. All I can say was she was about 4 feet tall. One other funny story. I was working secondary and our job was to drive some business big wheels around St Louis for gatherings and meetings. So I drive my guy to Grants Farm. That is where the Busch Family ( Anheuser-Busch) has their mansion and where the clydesdales are kept, etc. So while my guy is inside at a gathering myself and another policeman are standing outside when we see this horse drawn wagon approaching. It stops about 20 feet in front of us and the driver stands up and pee's over the side of the wagon. He see's us and says in a gravely voice "How you doin fellas" zips up his fly and drives off. Me and the other guy look at one another with our mouths open. That guy was August Busch, the owner of the brewery!

All of the teams in the Conference Finals are worthy champions.

As a hockey fan I just hope for more Game 7’s with some OT games mixed in.

I like this...only meaning that I like that some drugs didn't get to the US the way drug traffickers intended...

lots of cocaine washed up on Galveston beaches yesterday...

it happens occasionally...maybe this was a US strike on a drug boat...maybe something else...

probably more still washing up...

who knows...
